On the day of the sports meet, the school gate was much livelier than usual.
Many clubs took advantage of the occasion to hold activities over these few days.
Huo Yu wasn’t dressed particularly formally today, and standing at the school gate, he really did look like a student.
He wore a pair of gold-rimmed glasses that concealed much of the murderous air in his eyes. His phone screen was still on; the red dot on it had moved a short distance and then stopped.
He let out a soft laugh, a hint of excitement rising in his eyes.
When he passed the sports field on his way to the changing rooms, Qin Muyao and the others had just finished playing basketball and were sitting at the edge of the field drinking water, drenched in sweat.
The moment Zhong Sinian tilted his head back, he spotted Huo Yu not far away. His eyes narrowed slightly, and after looking carefully, he realized he didn’t recognize him.
He knew everyone from the upper crust of Moqing City, yet this man with such an extraordinary bearing—he didn’t know him at all.
Before he realized it, he had been staring at Huo Yu for a long time.
Until the person being stared at turned his head toward him with some impatience. Upon seeing it was Zhong Sinian, Huo Yu broke into a vicious smile, his narrow eyes carrying malice as they curved.
With just one glance, Zhong Sinian could feel the thick killing intent radiating from this man.
His Adam’s apple bobbed twice, and the post-game heat in his body was instantly swallowed by cold. Layers of cold sweat broke out on his back.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” Qin Muyao, sitting beside him, felt his friend’s body stiffen and gave him a push.
Zhong Sinian snapped back to his senses, but when he looked again, the man was already gone.
He shook his head blankly. “N-nothing.”
To be honest, Huo Yu really did have a mind to kill Zhong Sinian. He strode into the changing rooms.
The black-suited bodyguard following him didn’t go in, but stood guard outside.
Huo Yu walked straight toward the women’s changing room. Inside, it was clean and tidy, without a sound. He gave a soft laugh and said nothing.
Meanwhile, Pei Qiuxu, hiding in her own stall, was clutching her mouth tightly, silently cursing herself for being such a coward.
It was just a door creaking open—how did that scare her?
Maybe it was just some other student coming in to rest.
But Pei Qiuxu didn’t dare let her guard down. She quietly pressed her ear against the door without making the slightest sound.
She listened silently for half a minute. There were no footsteps outside.
She breathed a small sigh of relief and slowly rose, about to sit back down on her little stool.
But the moment she turned around, a heavy shadow fell across the door, and then a voice sounded: “Come out.”
The breath Pei Qiuxu hadn’t fully released shot straight up to her throat.
She turned to look, and on the semi-transparent frosted door, a tall figure was now reflected. Then the locked door handle turned gently twice; feeling the resistance of the lock, he paused for a moment.
Pei Qiuxu was scared out of her wits. She clamped her hand over her mouth, but the faintest sob escaped and reached the man’s ears.
His figure paused, and then the lock seemed to be forced open by something. The handle turned slowly, and with a click, the door opened.
The first thing to meet Pei Qiuxu’s tear-filled eyes was the man’s slightly upturned lips. He stepped forward and pulled her into his arms. “Baby, what are you doing in here?”
He turned and sat down on the stool, and with a firm grip of his hands, placed Pei Qiuxu on his lap.
Huo Yu reached out and wiped away the tears sliding down the girl’s face. “Are you made of water? Why do you cry so much?”
“You… you scared me.” Pei Qiuxu spoke in broken fragments, genuinely frightened. “I don’t like you. You’re always scaring me.”
The moment her words fell, the changing room sank into silence.
Pei Qiuxu lifted her head, sniffling, and looked at Huo Yu—only to meet his deep, dark eyes, utterly devoid of emotion.
A shiver ran through her whole body. Feeling utterly wronged, she draped her arms around Huo Yu’s neck and buried her face against the side of his throat, crying. “I’m sorry, okay?”
Huo Yu said nothing. A moment later, he suddenly tilted his head back with a rough, heavy breath. If Pei Qiuxu had looked at him right then, she would have seen his eyes burning with scorching desire.
He reached out and cupped Pei Qiuxu’s head in both hands, and the motion forced her to bare the full length of her fragile, fair neck.
The tip of the man’s nose brushed against the skin of her throat. Pei Qiuxu trembled all over—the neck was the most vulnerable part of the body, and a gesture like this gave her the illusion of being about to be devoured.
“Baby, I don’t like hearing that. Don’t ever say it again.” Warm breath spilled against the side of her neck, and Pei Qiuxu shuddered from head to toe, nodding hurriedly.
Only then did Huo Yu straighten up.
Pei Qiuxu had stopped crying, but her eyes were still red. She sat obediently on Huo Yu’s lap, pouting up at him. “How come you’re here?”
“If Baby won’t come see me, then I’ll come see you.” Huo Yu’s voice was gentle and doting.
Pei Qiuxu didn’t dare ask any more. What she’d actually wanted to say was—how did he know where she was?
By the time the two of them came out of the changing room, Pei Qiuxu’s lips were red and swollen, as if they’d been ravished for a long while, and her hair was a little messy.
Huo Yu looked at the gift bags laid out on the table in the hall. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of Zhong Sinian’s name, and he lifted his head to look at Pei Qiuxu.
She was standing in front of the mirror at that moment, arranging her long hair.
Without warning, she heard Huo Yu’s voice, laced with a smile: “Have you cut things off with Zhong Sinian completely?”
Pei Qiuxu’s whole body stiffened, and she felt like crying again.
This man was utterly unreasonable—he’d barged into her life like a robber, and now he was threatening her to give up the good life ahead of her.
Furious but helpless, she could only glare at Huo Yu with reddened eyes.
In the end, she meekly tugged at his sleeve and wheedled, “We’re already engaged. Breaking off an engagement is definitely going to take time.”
Huo Yu watched her with a smile and said nothing.
Just as Pei Qiuxu thought he was about to get angry, he suddenly said, “Fine. I’ll wait.”
Pei Qiuxu looked up, pleasantly surprised—only to hear him continue, “But don’t make me wait too long, Baby.”
Pei Qiuxu nodded guiltily.
Huo Yu had other matters to attend to and couldn’t stay long.
So he left quickly. Only when Pei Qiuxu saw the two men who had been standing at the changing room door leave with him did she finally breathe a sigh of relief.
She collapsed completely onto the nearby lounge sofa, feeling as though she’d just fought an impossibly difficult battle.
Outside, the cheerleading performance had already ended entirely. The teacher walked beside He Jiaojiao, showering her with praise.
At this opening ceremony, He Jiaojiao had truly stolen the show.
Despite having no dance background whatsoever, she had danced with real grace, in no way inferior to those with over a decade of dance experience.
He Jiaojiao curled her lips into a smile. “It was everyone’s hard work, and the teacher taught us so well.”
As the group walked along, they ran straight into Huo Yu, who had just come out of the changing room, and their eyes all lit up with admiration.
As classmates of Qin Muyao and his crowd, they’d certainly seen their share of handsome guys—their standards had been thoroughly spoiled.
But the moment this man appeared, no one could keep their eyes off him. He wasn’t like the boys at school—neither the clean-cut type nor the devilishly charming type. Instead, he carried an innate air of superiority, the bearing of someone born to rule from above.
