The first thing I saw when I woke up was my phone.
A small notification rested on the screen.
Serina Ma’am
For some reason,A smile appeared on my face.I opened the message.
From Serina Ma’am –
Good morning, Jay Jay.
Did you eat breakfast?
I stared at the screen.Then laughed softly.
Nobody had ever asked me that before.
Not once.I quickly typed a reply.
To Serina Ma’am –
Good morning, Ma’am.
Not yet.
The reply came almost immediately.
From Serina Ma’am –
Then go eat.
And don’t skip it.
I smiled.
To Serina Ma’am –
Yes, Ma’am.
A few seconds later another message arrived.

Also…
I need my cookies.
I laughed.
A real laugh.
The kind that made my heart feel lighter.
She was the only person who sent me a good morning message also who cared did I ate or not .
Author’s Pov –
The bakery was busy as usual.Customers came and went.Orders piled up.
Yet today…
Something felt different.
Jay Jay looked happier.
Not completely.
But happier.
Even the other staff members noticed.
“Someone looks cheerful today.”
One of the workers teased.
Jay Jay immediately looked away.
“I always look cheerful.”
“No.”
Another worker laughed.
“Today you’re glowing.”
Jay Jay threw a napkin at him.The entire bakery laughed.
A few hours later…
A familiar message arrived.
Serina Ma’am
The message –
Can I place my daily cookie order now?
Jay Jay smiled.
Daily.
The word felt nice.
Strangely nice.
She quickly prepared the almond cookies and packed them carefully.
Before leaving, she checked the box twice.
Then three times.
Then finally left.
Left again for going to the Watson house, the house where she felt genuinely happy and felt good .
Jay Jay’s Pov –
The Watson mansion didn’t feel as intimidating today.Yesterday I felt like I was entering another world.
Today…
It felt familiar.
The security guard even smiled at me.
“Back again?”
I smiled.
“Looks like it.”
For some reason…
That made me happy.
I walked toward the entrance and rang the bell.
A few seconds later—
The door opened.And there he was.
Keifer.
He was shock fir a second.
Then His eyes landed on the cookie box.
Then on me.
“You’re early.”
I blinked.
“You’re welcome.”
A corner of his mouth twitched.
“I didn’t say thank you.” He said
“You should.”
I replied
For a second…
Neither of us moved.
Then he stepped aside.
“Come in.”
I raised an eyebrow.
“That sounded suspiciously polite.”
“Don’t get used to it.”
I laughed.
And somehow…
He looked pleased by it.
Keifer’s Pov-
She laughed easier now.
I noticed it immediately.
The first day I met her.Her smiles looked forced.Today they didn’t.
And for some reason.That made me feel relieved.Before I could think about why…
Mom appeared.
“Jay Jay!”
And just like that…
I became invisible.
Again.
Mom immediately dragged her inside.
Leaving me standing alone near the entrance.
“Mom.”
She ignored me.
“Mom.”
Still nothing.
Jay Jay tried not to laugh.
Traitor.
Author’s Pov –
The moment Serina brought Jay Jay into the living room, she immediately pushed her onto the couch.
“Sit.”
“Ma’am, I only came to deliver the cookies.”
“And?”
“And I should leave.”
“No.”
Jay Jay sighed.Defeated.Completely defeated.
Serina smiled proudly.
Victory.
A few moments later…
Footsteps echoed from the hallway.
Jay Jay looked up.
And saw Kaizar.
The moment he noticed her, a warm smile appeared on his face.
Jay Jay froze.
Welcome back.
Not hello.
Not good afternoon.
Welcome back.
Something about those two words touched her heart.
“Thank you, sir.”
Kaizar sat down nearby.
“How’s the bakery?”
“It’s busy.”
“That’s good.”
Jay Jay nodded.
For some reason.Talking to him felt easy.
Comfortable.Very much like Serina.
Suddenly—
The front door burst open.
“COOKIE SISTER!”
Jay Jay nearly jumped.Keigan came running inside.
School bag hanging from one shoulder.
Hair messy.Energy level impossible.
“Cookie Sister?”
Jay Jay repeated.
Keigan nodded proudly.
“Yes.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
Jay Jay looked toward Keifer.
“Help me.”
Keifer shrugged.
“You’re on your own.”
Traitor.
The entire room erupted into laughter.
For the next few minutes…
Keigan continued calling her Cookie Sister.
And no matter how much she complained…
Nobody helped her.
Not even Keifer.
Especially Keifer.
Jay Jay’s Pov –
For the first time in a very long while…
I felt relaxed.
Not nervous.
Not careful.
Just comfortable.
The Watson family somehow made everything feel easy.
As if I belonged there.
Even if only for a little while.
A few moments later…
Keigan disappeared upstairs.
Kaizar received a work call.
And Serina went to check something in the kitchen.
Leaving me alone.
With Keifer.
Great.
Very great.
The silence wasn’t awkward.
But it wasn’t exactly comfortable either.
I looked around the room.

Then suddenly—
“You smile more now.”
I froze.
Slowly.
I looked at him.

For a moment…
I didn’t know what to say.
Because he noticed.someone really noticed me how i was before and how I am now.
“Do I?”
He nodded.
“Yeah.”
“That’s creepy.” I said
“It’s called observation.” He replied
I rolled my eyes.
He looked annoyingly pleased with himself.
For a moment…
Neither of us spoke.
Then my gaze landed on a family photograph.
All four of them.
Smiling.
Laughing.
Happy.
My chest tightened slightly.
“They look happy.”
Keifer followed my gaze.
For a moment…
He simply stared at the picture.
Then he looked at me.
“We’re not perfect.”
I smiled softly.
“Still looks nice.”
For some reason…
Neither of us looked away.
Not immediately.
Not until footsteps echoed nearby.
Author’s Pov –
A few moments later…
Everyone gathered together again.
Tea.Cookies.Random conversations.And lots of laughter.Mostly because of Keigan.
At one point…
Jay Jay accidentally spoke.
“My dad used to…”
The words stopped.
Immediately.
The smile on her face weakened.
Only slightly.
Yet everyone noticed.
Especially Keifer.
The room grew quiet.
For a moment…
Jay Jay looked away.
Then smiled.
“I’m sorry.” Jay Jay said
“You don’t have to apologize.”
Serina spoke gently.
Jay Jay looked down.
A small lump formed in her throat.
A few minutes later…
The conversation changed.
Yet one person remained thoughtful.
Keifer.
Keifer’s Pov –
The way she spoke about her dad.
The way her expression changed.
The way she immediately tried to hide it.
A little later…
She stepped outside into the garden.
Probably wanting some air.
I found myself following her.
Not intentionally.
At least…
That’s what I told myself.
She was standing near the flowers.
Quiet.Thinking.I walked beside her.
For a moment neither of us spoke.
Then—
“You miss him.”
She froze.
Completely froze.Slowly she looked at me.Her eyes looked surprised.As if she wasn’t expecting anyone to understand.
I looked away.Giving her space.
“Yes”
For a few moments…
Neither of us spoke.
Then finally—
“Every day.”
Her voice was barely above a whisper.
I nodded.
No advice.No fake comfort.Just understanding.
And somehow…
That seemed enough.
Jay Jay’s Pov –
For some reason…
Talking to him felt easy.
Maybe because he wasn’t forcing me to smile.
Maybe because he wasn’t pretending everything was okay.Or maybe…
Because he understood.The silence between us felt comfortable.
And somehow…
That scared me a little.
Author’s Pov –
Soon it was time for Jay Jay to leave.
Serina packed snacks for jay jay .
Jay Jay looked horrified.
“Ma’am.”
“What?”
“This is too much.”
“No.”
“It is.”
“No.”
Jay Jay looked toward Kaizar.
“Help me.”
Kaizar immediately looked away.
“I support my wife.”
Traitor.
Everyone laughed.
Even Keifer.
At the entrance…
Jay Jay finally prepared to leave.
Then Serina pointed a finger at her.
“Message me when you get home.”
Jay Jay laughed.
“You already told me that yesterday.”
“And I’ll tell you again today.”
The smile on Jay Jay’s face softened.
“Okay.”
“Good.”
As she reached the gate…
Footsteps followed behind her.
She turned.
Keifer.
Of course.
For a moment.Neither of them spoke.
Then—
“You know…”
Jay Jay looked at him.
“What?”
” There is a amusement park somewhat far from here I have extra tickets would you like to come ?”.
Keifer said
Jay Jay stared at him for some seconds
In shock how can I go there and the most important thing am i his family ?
No then why he asked me ?
” Oh , on which date ?
Also who are going?
” Jay Jay asked
“It’s on Sunday i mean this Sunday and me and keigan are going.
Are you too coming?”
Jay Jay stand quiet for some time then finally spoke
“Okay , i will come ”
“That’s good ”
keifer replied” Bye keifer ”
“Bye jay jay , Go home safely ” keifer said
Jay Jay nodded and left.
Keifer’s pov –
I asked if she could come too
And she said yes , the thing is i already know mom and dad won’t go
So i did this purposely
To buy one more .
As she left a smile appread on my face.
I returned inside.
There was a online meeting
I am attending that .

That evening…
Jay Jay returned home.
Her heart felt lighter.
Warmer.
Happier.
Until—
“The groom’s family will visit this Sunday.”
Jeana’s voice echoed through the house.
Immediately.
The warmth disappeared.
The happiness faded.
And reality returned.
Jay Jay simply nodded.
Then walked upstairs.
Jay Jay’s pov –
As i reached home
I got to know I am going to meet them this Sunday.
How can I ?
When I just said yes to keifer for the amusement park
How can I be present both side .
Later that night…
I stared at my phone.
At the messages from Serina Ma’am
At the memories from today.
And for the first time…
The upcoming meeting scared me.
Because now.
I finally knew what a loving family looked like.
