Jay Jay’s Pov –
The next days passed surprisingly quickly.
And Today is Friday.Every morning, I delivered cookies to the Watson mansion.
And every morning.Someone was always waiting.
Usually Serina Ma’am.
Sometimes Kaizar Sir.
Almost always Keigan.
And occasionally…
Keifer.
Not that I noticed.
Of course.
“COOKIE SISTER HAS ARRIVED!”
Keigan announced dramatically the moment I entered.
I nearly dropped the cookie box.
“One day you’re going to give me a heart attack.” He gasped.
“Impossible.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re too strong.”
Istared at him.
Then looked at Serina ma’am.
“Is he always like this?”
“Unfortunately.”
Serina Ma’am replied.
The entire family laughed.And somehow.I laughed too.
For the next half hour, I sat with them.Listening to their stories.Watching them tease each other.
Watching Kaizar sir and Serina Ma’am argue over absolutely nothing.
Watching Keigan annoy Keifer every five minutes.
And for some reason…
I didn’t want to leave.
Keifer’s Pov –
She was smiling again.
A real smile.
Not the polite smile she gave customers.Not the fake smile she used when something was wrong.This one was genuine.
And somehow…Ipreferred seeing that smile more than I should.
Then her phone vibrated.The smile disappeared.Immediately.
I noticed.Of course I noticed.
She stared at the screen.Then quietly put her phone away.
Something was wrong.Again.
“Everything okay?” I asked.
She looked surprised.As if she didn’t expect me to notice.
Then came that familiar smile.The fake one.
The one she always gives to everyone when something is bothering her .
I hated that soo much.
“Everything’s fine.” She replied
Lie.
A terrible lie.
But before anyone could ask further questions—
She stood up.
“I should leave.” She said
Mom immediately looked disappointed.
“So soon?”
“I still have work.” I replied
Eventually everyone said goodbye.And she left
Yet somehow.Something didn’t feel right.
Feels like there is something much more in her life she is dealing with it alone .
I need to find out.
I will find it and help her .
I promise this to myself.
Jay Jay’s Pov –
The walk back felt longer than usual.
Jeana’s message kept replaying inside my head.
The groom’s family.The meeting.The expectations.The pressure.
Everything felt overwhelming.
So overwhelming…
That I barely noticed where I was going.
I was going back to my bakery after delivering the cookies.
One road.Then another.Still thinking.Still distracted.Still lost inside my own thoughts.
Then suddenly
BEEEEEP!
A loud horn echoed through the street
I still couldn’t understand what was happening.
Until i turned back
The moment i turned back
A car
Coming directly toward me.Fast.Far too fast.
For one terrifying second..My body froze.
I couldn’t move.
Couldn’t think.
Couldn’t breathe.
Just then….
Author’s Pov –
Everything happened in an instant.The speeding car.The terrified girl.The crowded street.
And then— A hand grabbed her wrist.
Before she could even process what happened
She was pulled backward.
Her balance disappeared.And suddenly…
She crashed directly into someone’s chest.
Strong arms wrapped around her instinctively.She fall down but not on the road.The car sped past.
Missing her completely.
Only then did the world start moving again.
Jay Jay’s Pov –
My heart was beating so fast it hurt.
Then I slowly looked up And i was froze.
Keifer.
His arm was still around my waist.
I was on him
Howw????
My hand was gripping his shirt.
Neither of us moved.Neither of us spoke.
For a moment…
The entire world disappeared.
Then reality hit.
Hard.
I immediately moved and i couldn’t process anything so I didn’t stand
Was just sitting on the road
My face turning red.Very red.
Keifer’s Pov –
For one second…
One stupid second…
I thought I was too late.
The sight of that car heading toward her had nearly stopped my heart.
And she wasn’t moving.
She just stood there.Frozen.Completely unaware.
Idiot.Complete idiot.
I ran towards her hold her wrist
But the sudden pull couldn’t balance
So she fell on me
Thank God we are on the side of the road .
I finally spoke
“Jay Jay.”
She blinked.Still shocked.
“Are you hurt?
She slowly shook her head
“N-No.”
The relief I felt was ridiculous.
Absolutely ridiculous.
Yet it was there.
Jay Jay’s Pov-
He looked angry.
Very angry.
We both finally stood up .
“Were you even looking?”
Uh oh.
“I…”
“What were you thinking?”
“I was distracted.” I replied
“Jay Jay, what if u could have got hurt ?
”
I lowered my head.
Like a child being scolded.
Which somehow made him sigh.The anger slowly disappeared.Then his voice softened.
“Come here.”
“What?”
“Sit.”
“I’m fine.”
“Jay Jay”
“Sit.”
For some reason…I listened.
Nearby was a small bench.
I sat down quietly.
Keifer disappeared for a minute.Then returned.Holding a bottle of water.
“Drink.”
I accepted it.
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
Then silence settled between us.
Not awkward.
Just quiet.
Keifer’s Pov –
She still looked shaken.
Then I noticed something.
Her hands.
They were trembling.
“You’re still shaking.”
She immediately looked down.
And froze.
Because I was right.
The bottle trembled slightly in her hands.
“That scared you.”
I said quietly.Not a question.A statement.
For a moment…
She didn’t reply.Then she nodded.
“A little.”
A little.
The car almost hit her.
And she called it a little.
Unbelievable.
Author’s pov –
Before either of them could continue—
Keifer’s phone suddenly rang.
The screen displayed:
KEIGAN.
Immediately dangerous.
Keifer answered.
“DID YOU DIE?”
Keigan shouted
Jay Jay immediately started laughing.
The tension disappeared instantly.
“No.”Keifer replied.
“Then where are you?”
“Outside.”
“Mom is asking.”
“Tell her I’m alive.”
“Wow.”
“What?”
“That was cold.”
Keifer hung up.
Jay Jay laughed harder.
For the first time since the accident…
The fear completely disappeared.
Jay Jay’s pov –
Eventually we started walking again.
Toward the bakery.
For some reason…
Neither of us seemed in a hurry.
Then I finally said—
“Thank you.”
“For what?”
I stared at him.
“You literally saved my life.”
“Oh.”
Then he shrugged.
“Try not to need saving every week.”
I gasped.
“That happened once.”
“Today.”
“Exactly.”
I rolled my eyes.
He looked annoyingly satisfied.
Author’s Pov –
Soon they reached the bakery.
The familiar building stood in front of them.
For a moment…Neither moved.
Neither spoke.
Then Jay Jay turned toward him.
“You were really worried.”
Keifer froze.
Only for a second.
Then he looked away.
“Anyone would’ve been.”
Jay Jay smiled softly.
“No.”
His eyes returned to hers.
“I don’t think so.”
For a moment..Neither of them spoke.
Then Jay Jay walked inside
Leaving Keifer standing there.
Thinking about those words.
Jay Jay’s Pov –
That night…I lay in bed.Trying to sleep.
But every time I closed my eyes…The same moment replayed.
His hand grabbing my wrist.His arms around me.His voice asking if I was okay.His worried expression.And somehow…
The memory made my heart beat faster.
Keifer’s pov –
I was sitting in my room.
Trying to read.
Trying being the important word.
Because my brain refused to cooperate.
Instead..it kept replaying the same scene.
Jay Jay.The road.
The car.
The relief I felt when she was safe.
Then suddenly—
The door opened.
Keigan entered.
Unfortunately.
He stared at me.
Then narrowed his eyes.
Then grinned.
Dangerous.Very dangerous.
“Why are you smiling?”
I immediately looked up.
“I’m not.”
“You are.”
“I’m not.”
“You literally are.”
“Get out.”
Keigan gasped dramatically.
“Oh my God.”
“What?”
“You like—”
“Get out.”
“I’M TELLING MOM!”
“KEIGAN.”
The boy ran away laughing.
Meanwhile…
For the first time in a very long time…
Keifer couldn’t stop smiling.
