Many pairs of eyes followed his every movement

One mistake was enough to cost an employee their job

Keifer placed the file on the table

His gaze landed to a manager

“Explain this” keifer said .

The manager immediately straightened his seat

“S-Sir ?” manager asked nervously

“The numbers,” Keifer said coldly.

“Why are they different from last month’s report?”

The room grew even quieter.

Nobody wanted to be the next person questioned.

After several minutes of explanations and discussions, the meeting finally came to an end.

“Fix the issue before tomorrow.”

His voice was calm.

“Meeting dismissed.”

Everyone quickly gathered their files and left.

Within seconds, the conference room was empty.

Everyone except Keifer.

He remained seated, staring at the city through the glass windows.

The sky was slowly turning orange as evening approached.

Another day.

Another meeting.

Another problem to solve.

This company never sleeps.

Keifer rubbed his temples before standing up.

The moment he stepped out of the conference room, a familiar voice stopped him.

A young woman from the marketing department approached him with a smile.

“Mr.Watson”

Makeup overloaded , trying to impress the CEO by her looks

“Would you like to have dinner with me tonight?”

Keifer continued walking

“No” he said

“Maybe another day ?

” She asked

“No” he said again but this time his voice rose , Not rude or angry just uninterested.

The woman sighed in defeat before walking away.

Keifer barely noticed.

Relationships were the last thing on his mind.

He had work ,Deadlines, Responsibilities.

Feelings only complicated things.

By the time he reached his office he got a call.

Keifer’s Pov –

The life is exhausting

The routine is just to sleep, eat, work and repeat.

The whole office is empty now

Just everyday the new work comes and i don’t have time to even rest properly .

Then my phone rang

Caller id – Mom

A small smile appread on my face

The only person who cared about me in the whole busy world .

“Hello”

“Have you eaten?” She asked

“Not yet” i said

“Keifer”

I sighed

“I’m going”

” You said this three hours ago ” she said .

I leaned back in the chair

” You are keeping track?”

” Ofcourse I do , You are my son ”

The exhaustion weight lighter on me .

The only person who worried about me without wanting something in return.

“Anyways”she continued ” Don’t forget my cookies ”

” The bakery again?”

“Yess” she said .

“Okay I will bring it ” .

” The almond one ” she said

” Okay Mom ” i said

“Drive safely”

The call ended .

Author pov –

As the call ended the room filled with silence

Keifer looked around the empty Chairs , unfinished reports.

He grabbed the car keys

Time to go home.

Twenty minutes later, his black car stopped near a small bakery.

Unlike the cold corporate buildings surrounding it, this place felt warm.

The soft golden lights glowed through the windows.

People entered with smiles and left carrying boxes of pastries.

A comforting scent drifted into the evening air.

Moonveil Bakery.

The place his mother couldn’t stop talking about.

Keifer stepped out of the car.

Completely unaware that this ordinary stop for cookies was about to change his life.
