Authors Pov –
The sweet aroma of freshly baked bread filled Moonveil Bakery.
The warm golden lights reflected against the glass windows while soft music played in the background.
Customers entered with smiles and left carrying boxes of pastries, cakes, and cookies.
Unlike the cold and busy world outside, the bakery felt peaceful.
Behind the counter stood Jasper Jean Maraino.
Or as everyone called her-
Jay Jay.
A gentle smile rested on her face as she carefully arranged freshly baked cookies on display.
“Thank you.
Have a nice day!”
The elderly customer smiled warmly.
“You too, dear.”
Jay Jay waved before helping the next customer.
No matter how tired she felt, she always greeted people with kindness.
It was one of the many reasons customers loved her.
Yet behind that beautiful smile.
There was always sadness.
A sadness nobody seemed to notice.
Or perhaps nobody cared enough to see.A few hours later, the bakery became quieter.
Jay Jay finally had a chance to sit down.
Her feet hurt.
Her back ached.
But she ignored it.
She always did.
Her phone suddenly vibrated.
The screen lit up.
Caller ID – Aries
A genuine smile appeared on her face.
She immediately answered.
“Aries!”
“Hey, little baker.”
His familiar voice instantly brightened her mood.
“How are you?”
“I’m good.”
“You’re lying.”
Jay Jay laughed softly.
“No, I’m not.”
“You are.”
Even from another country, Aries could always tell.
Silence filled the call for a moment.
“How’s Mom?” he asked.
“She’s fine.”
“And Adrian?”
The smile on Jay Jay’s face slowly faded.
“Same as always.”
Aries sighed.
“I wish I was there.”
“I’m okay.”
“You don’t have to pretend with me.”
Jay Jay lowered her gaze.
Sometimes she hated how easily Aries could read her.
“Don’t worry, I’m used to it.” she wishpersed
Aries remained silent.
That answer hurt him more than she realized.
Before he could continue, another customer entered the bakery.
“I have to go.”
“Take care of yourself.”
“You too.”
The call ended.
Jay Jay stared at the screen for some time and then returned to the work .
Keifer’s pov –
The city lights blurred outside my car window.
Another exhausting day.
Another endless meeting.
Another pile of unfinished work waiting for tomorrow.
I loosened my tie and leaned back in my seat.
For a moment, all I wanted was silence.
Then I remembered.
The cookies.
Mom’s cookies.
A small sigh escaped my lips.
If I returned home without them, she would never let me enter without it
Cause she loves it soo much .
Twenty minutes later, I parked outside Moonveil Bakery.
The place Mom couldn’t stop talking about.
I stepped out of the car.
Warm lights glowed through the windows.
The scent of vanilla and coffee drifted into the evening air.
Strange.
Just looking at the bakery felt more comforting than my entire office.
I walked inside.
Authors Pov –
The bell above the entrance chimed.
Ding.
Jay Jay looked up.
A tall man dressed in a black suit stepped inside.
His posture was straight.
His expression unreadable.
There was something cold about him.
Not rude.
Not arrogant.
Just distant.
The entire bakery seemed quieter for a moment.
Yet he didn’t appear to notice.
Jay Jay quickly looked away.
Just another customer.
Nothing more.
She approached the counter.
“Good evening.”
Keifer nodded
” A box of almond cookies” he said
“Sure sir” jay jay replied
She carefully selected the cookies and placed them inside a box.
Meanwhile, Keifer observed the bakery around him.
The laughter.
The warmth.
The peaceful atmosphere.
It felt different from the world he lived in.
Very different.
“Here you go.”
Jay Jay handed him the box.
“You will love it ” she said
” This is for my mom” he replied
Jay Jay smiled and continued ” she will love it too ”
Keifer nodded
“Have a nice evening!” She said
Keifer passed a smile , nodded and left.
A few seconds later, Jay Jay noticed something on the counter.
A silver pen.
Expensive.
Definitely his.
She picked it up.
“He forgot this.”
Unaware that it would become the reason they meet again.
On the other hand –
Keifer turned toward the door.
The bell chimed softly as he stepped outside.
For reasons he couldn’t explain…
He looked back.
Jay Jay was already helping another customer.
Still smiling.
Still patient.
Still kind.
A warmth he hadn’t felt in years lingered in his chest.
Then he walked away.
Completely unaware that the girl behind the bakery counter had just become the most memorable part of his day.
