JADE

I picked up my bag and pulled out my phone.

“We have to call the police to look into …” He grabbed the phone from my hand before I could dial the emergency number.Full novel: Unwanted No More – The Devil Mafia’s Love is Mine — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“There is no need for that.”

“No need for that?

We were chased on the highway, and then someone drove into us twice, and you think there is no need for that?”

“I will handle it,” he dismissed.

I licked my lips and stared at him.

I ran my fingers through my hair and nodded.

“Okay then, you handle it.” He dropped my phone into my hand, and we drove back home as if nothing had happened.

“I will have the doctor come check on you,” he said when we stepped into the house.

“I told you I was fine,” I shot back at him.

My mind was bubbling with questions, and I wanted him to explain without me pushing for it.

“Still…” He paused for too long.

“We need to check for bruising.”

He gave me a look that said ‘end of discussion.

’ I forced a smile and nodded at him before taking a step forward.

I stopped in my tracks and turned back to him.

“Are you not going to …”

“Don’t get curious, Jade.” He shot me down before I could even finish the thought.

“You might get hurt.”

I bit down on my lips and shook my head.

“At this point, does it really matter if I was curious?

I would still get hurt.”

I walked away, leaving him by the door.

I walked to my room, confused on all levels.

Nothing about the situation made sense.

“Madam?” Ana’s voice came when I was already drifting into a slumber without the images of the chase replaying in my mind.

I groaned as I sat in bed.

Opening my eyes sent all of the feelings rushing back to my mind.

“Mr.

Volkov instructed me to bring a doctor to you.”

“Why did he even care if I was hurt?” I grumbled as I walked to the door.

I pulled it open, and a man made his way in.

He checked my body and found the slightly red bruise on my back that came from slamming into the door handle earlier.

“This should help.” He handed me a tube.

I wondered if this happened often, so the doctor knew to bring a bruising cream, or if he just happened to have it in his bag.

“Have someone help you,” he added.

“Thank you, Doctor,” I said as he walked away.

“I will be back, madam, to help with the cream,” Ana said as she escorted the doctor out.

“You don’t have to,” I called after her, but the door had closed, and I doubted she heard me.

The door opened while I was taking off my shirt to apply the cream.

“I told you that you didn’t have to come back.”

“Well, I had to.” I felt my soul escape my body as I turned to Roman.

I clutched my shirt to my chest as if he had not seen it all last night.

“W-what … what are … what … are you doing here?” I stammered in a very low voice.

He walked to me and snatched the cream from me.

“Ana told me that you needed help with the cream.”

He guided me to the edge and made me sit.

He sat behind me while I was still clutching the shirt for dear life.

“I have seen it all, Jade,” he whispered.

I gulped.

I knew that already, but I still couldn’t stand the thought of him seeing me again.

It made my stomach churn, and my cheeks grow hotter.

“I asked you multiple times ifyou were hurt, and you said …”

“It’s just a small bruise.

It’s not that big of a deal.” I cut him off.

It was really not that big of a deal, after all.

“Not that big of a deal?

What if this left a scar?” His voice was shaky, and my mind was scrambling for the right answers.

“Then I am left with a scar.”

He grabbed my shoulder, and an unfamiliar pain shot through my body.

“This body belongs to me, Jade.

You aren’t allowed to get hurt or scared.”

I swear, if this were a book, that would be a good line for a romantic lead.

But since this was not a book, it sounded scary.

Yet my stomach still tumbled.

“I am going on a business trip tomorrow,” he announced.

I blinked and waited for him to explain.

“I will have guards on your tail so you don’t have to be scared.”

“I am not scared,” I murmured slowly and turned to him.

I raised my hand to his face, and he

flinched.

I realised that while he had been so worried about me, I had not even asked about him.

Not once.

“Are you okay?

Did you get hurt?”

“You don’t have to worry about me.” He shook his head.

“The doctor already saw me.”
