Pei Jiangchen enjoyed the second best treatment in the team, right after Pei Jiashen; he even had his own RV.
Wen Shuyu ducked into the vehicle, stripped off his soiled trousers, and rummaged through his luggage to find a clean pair to change into.
The door was left open. Amanda came hurrying over, her footsteps clattering as she approached; the moment she looked up, she saw Wen Shuyu standing there with his legs bare.
Wen Shuyu: “…”
Though the young man appeared slender, his legs were straight and long, with well-toned, powerful muscles—far from frail.
Amanda couldn’t help but whistle appreciatively at those fine legs before stepping back out, meeting Wen Shuyu’s embarrassed, flustered gaze.
“You really didn’t get burned?” Amanda asked, leaning against the doorframe and looking in at Wen Shuyu. “People might envy the special favor you get, but I think you deserve it. You keep your eyes on Young Master Chen every single moment; at the slightest sign of trouble, you rush in to shield him. I’ve never seen an attendant so devoted to their master.”
“Isn’t that only right?” Wen Shuyu said, using a wet wipe to clean the coffee stains from his skin.
The coffee had actually been quite hot, and his skin—delicate in a way that belied his status—was already turning red in the affected area.
“Young Master Chen keeps me by his side because he trusts me to take good care of him. I can’t let him down.” Wen Shuyu’s voice was soft and gentle, yet carried a note of stubborn loyalty that would move anyone who heard it.
“Oh, come on,” Amanda laughed. “I’ve been watching you two all day. I noticed your whole heart is wrapped up in Pei Jiangchen, your eyes hardly ever leave him. Tell me, Xiao Wen… do you like Pei Jiangchen?”
Pei Jiangchen strode toward the RV but stopped abruptly upon hearing this. The security guard following close behind nearly crashed into his back.
Wen Shuyu was always keenly sensitive to the gaze of others upon him.
He had long since realized that Amanda liked to look him over. Anyone allowed near the Pei family’s inner circle undergoes rigorous background checks; the Pei family’s security department had long since thoroughly scrutinized Amanda’s history, confirming she posed no threat. Consequently, Wen Shuyu had simply dismissed her interest as the curiosity a young woman might feel toward a man.
Yet, the reality of the moment proved that Wen Shuyu understood far too little about the minds of young women.
He was leaning against the car, in the middle of pulling on his trousers, when Amanda’s words reached him; the shock caused him to miss his footing, and he nearly tumbled to the ground.
“Hey! I knew it!” Hearing the commotion from inside the car, Amanda congratulated herself on her keen observation and spot-on intuition.
Pei Jiangchen was standing on the other side of the vehicle.
The tint on the windows blocked all visual contact, but it couldn’t muffle the sounds of Wen Shuyu stumbling and coughing awkwardly.
These sounds reached Pei Jiangchen’s ears, stirring a novel and peculiar sensation within him.
Pei Jiangchen waved his hand, and the security guards behind him silently withdrew.
A moment later, Wen Shuyu’s calm, composed voice rang out: “That’s a really strange idea. Young Master Chen and I are both men…”
“It’s hardly unusual for men to like men,” Amanda chuckled. “Even among the elite playboys, Young Master Chen is a cut above the rest; it’s perfectly normal to fall for him.”
Wen Shuyu sighed and continued to explain, “I was just doing my job; I don’t know how you got the wrong impression.”
“You can tell the difference between someone just doing their duty and someone revealing their true feelings if you pay a little attention,” Amanda said with a smile. “Take this morning, for instance, when the team was gathering. Young Master Chen was standing under a tree making a call. It had rained earlier, and water was dripping from the branches. You stood silently behind him, catching the raindrops with your hand—your sleeve got completely soaked.”
Wen Shuyu rolled his eyes heavenward as he fastened his belt.
What else was he supposed to do? His boss was deep in conversation; he couldn’t exactly go around dragging him away.
