In a beautiful city similar to a modern city, a gorgeous lady could be seen driving in a sleek black Aston Martin car.
Her name was Rowena and she was an elf.
Right now, Rowena's hands could be seen shaking on the steering wheel because she had received a call twenty minutes ago from an unknown number, telling her to get to the hospital because it was related to her son.
She had tried asking the nurse what the problem was on the phone, but the lady said it would be best if Rowena were there herself.
Tears streamed down her face as her grip on the steering wheel tightened even more.
"Please. Please, please, please."
"Not him too."
"Not my baby."
"If I lose him too, I don't know what I would..." Rowena wiped the tears from her face with the back of her hand as she tried to remain focused on the road.
But by the time she reached the hospital, her face was already wet and her makeup had already been ruined.
But she didn't care about any of this because all that mattered was seeing her son, and she hurried immediately into the building.
However, the first person she saw was her son's driver and personal bodyguard.
Her name was Odette but unlike Rowena who was an elf, Odette was more of a half-elf, so her ears weren't as pointy as that of Rowena's.
Noticing her boss approaching, Odette immediately turned toward Rowena despite her face already drenched in tears.
"My Lady, the young master... he's..." Odette began crying even more and Rowena's body felt lifeless.
Her legs barely stood straight and she almost fell to the ground.
Although Odette hadn't specified what had happened to her son, still, Rowena was smart enough to understand what she meant.
'No.'
'No, no, please, no.'
'It can't be.'
'I don't want to lose him too.' Rowena whispered internally in her mind.
But then, she heard the footsteps of a doctor approaching her.
The doctor got closer to her, then he began to ask if Rowena was related to the patient he had just been with.
Rowena nodded and the doctor began to explain the situation her son had been in when his body was brought over to the hospital.
Rowena listened to what the doctor had to say regarding something about cardiac arrest, and not really having enough oxygen to breathe and then something about how the doctor had tried his best to do everything he could.
However, the more Rowena listened to the words coming out of the doctor's mouth, the more each sentence passed through one ear to come out of her other ear.
In a nutshell, everything the doctor was saying didn't really matter to her anymore because all she wanted was to see her little boy again.
"P-Please, may I see him?" Rowena asked and the doctor nodded before directing her into the room.
Upon entering the room, Rowena noticed how quiet the room was.
Then she stood beside the bed and looked down at her son's face.
More tears streamed down her cheeks as she reached out to take his hand, which was surprisingly still a tiny bit warm, as she placed her forehead on Logan's hand.
"My baby," she whispered, but Odette, standing behind her, could hear what she was saying.
"My sweet, sweet baby."
"I'm sorry."
"Mommy is so sorry."
"I should have been there for you more, but I wasn't."
"I should have spent more time with you, but I didn't."
"I didn't do all these things because I was so consumed by my rage and vengeance for your father, I had abandoned the most important thing in my life."
"And that's you, Logan. I am so sorry I wasn't a mo..." Rowena cried even more as she found it hard to utter the words she had in mind.
Of course, Odette, behind her, couldn't help but break down into tears as well.
But whilst the two beautiful ladies continued to cry within the ward, a young man's consciousness seemed to be in what looked like a dark room.
Logan couldn't make sense of what was happening to him because he couldn't see anything, and neither could he touch anything.
All he could do was hear the voice of a woman crying and calling his name.
But it was strange because the last thing he recalled was being in a hospital last night.
He had been coughing a lot more than usual and his bed got stained with red a lot more than ever before.
'Did I die?' he wondered, but then he heard the woman's voice crying once again, calling him her son, but Logan found this extremely strange because he had been an orphan all his life but unlike most other children his age, Logan had spent a good amount of years on hospital beds, so he wondered who this woman was, to be calling herself his mother.
Meanwhile, back at the hospital, the heart monitor suddenly made a beep sound and this caused both Rowena and Odette to snap their heads up in surprise.
Both ladies stared at each other, seemingly finding it hard to believe what they had just heard.
'Did it just...' Rowena muttered in her thoughts, but then it beeped again.
*Beep*
Then it beeped again, and again and again, until Logan slowly opened his eyes.
The first thing he noticed was the unfamiliar white ceiling, which seemed extremely different from the hospital room he was in last night.
Logan slowly turned his head to the left and his gaze fell upon a stunning lady who was staring back at him as if she had just seen a ghost.
The lady had blonde hair and crimson coloured eyes, which were extremely strange because he had never seen a human being having such a set of eyes before.
'Are those elf ears?'
He asked himself internally in his mind, but the woman's voice called out to him.
"Logan? Logan? Baby, can you hear me?"
Although he didn't know the woman but since she had clearly called his name and had directly asked him a question, he felt it was expected of him to give her a response.
"...Yeah, I can hear you."
Hearing this, Rowena immediately grabbed hold of his hand again and Logan watched as his hand got soaked with tears.
Of course, just like Rowena, Odette was equally surprised and she couldn't control the tears streaming down her cheeks as she sniffled nonstop.
Meanwhile, the doctor had left to give them their privacy, but a nurse was still nearby, so she couldn't help but notice the patient in front of her who was supposed to be dead, but wasn't anymore.
She immediately bolted straight to the doctor's office, then a few minutes later, the doctor rushed back to Logan's ward.
He stepped in and immediately checked the monitor before checking on Logan's pulse.
He checked Logan's pupils and breathing as well before pulling himself back with a shocked expression on his face.
"But how? How is this possible? He had no cardiac activity a while ago, so how did he...?"
The doctor's words trailed off as he stared at Logan before redirecting his gaze to the nurse and then finally Rowena.
"I need to run a full examination, so please, I'll need you two to wait outside."
The doctor's words were aimed at Rowena and Odette directly, but neither of them felt like leaving the room.
However, in the end, they had no choice but to do as the doctor requested.
Stepping out of the room and into the hallway, the door swung shut behind them and Rowena's demeanor immediately transformed into a sinister aura oozing out of her as she glanced toward Odette.
"Odette, I want to know everything. Find out who called him, where he was tonight, who he was with and find out each of their names."
"I do not care how hard it will be to find them, but I want you to do it, or so help me, Odette, if I do not get what I want before lunchtime tomorrow, I promise to tear you apart myself before letting you watch as I feast on your flesh, bones and blood altogether. Do I make myself clear?"
"Y-yes, ma'am." Odette froze mid-sentence.
She had never seen her boss so angry before and she could practically feel the rage and fury oozing out of Rowena's entire body.
"I'll find them, I promise." Odette clenched her fist before stepping out of the hospital building.
Then Rowena looked back through the small window in the door.
She placed her hand on the door and watched as the doctor continued to examine Logan's body.
"I am truly sorry, dear, but I promise to be a better mother from now on."
"But as for whoever did this to you, I promise to make them regret ever being born."
Rowena tightened her fingers into a fist as she mentally began to devise hundreds and thousands of torturing techniques known only to her.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the door, the doctor had completed his examination and had asked Logan to rest because he hadn't found anything wrong with him.
However, Logan couldn't sleep because he was still trying to understand everything he had seen so far.
But before he could make sense of any of it, a blue screen suddenly appeared before him.
