Once the dishes were done, Logan asked if she wanted to head straight to bed or spend a little more time with him.
Luckily for him, Odette was genuinely enjoying his company, so she agreed, allowing them to end up in the living room where they were now both sitting comfortably on the couch.
"So, what's your favourite food?" Logan asked and Odette immediately found that a strange first question to ask.
"Yeah, I know it's a strange question to ask in this age, era and time, but nonetheless, humour me." Logan winked and Odette smiled as she replied, feeling a bit more comfortable with him the more time they continued to spend together.
"I like grilled fish. It's something my mother used to make when I was little and I still love it so much when she makes it for me."
"Hmm, grilled fish, huh. Duly noted." Logan pretended to be writing on his palm, almost as though he was taking notes, and Odette couldn't help but chuckle, finding it funny.
"What are you doing?" she asked, still chuckling.
"I'm taking notes, of course."
"That's so weird."
"Well, to you it is, but not to me. You're someone special to me, and I don't want to forget anything about you."
Odette smiled and Logan noticed the redness on the tips of her ears.
"Alright then. What's your favourite colour?"
"Purple, and what about yours?" Odette asked.
"I'm fine with black, but I've always been a huge fan of yellow as well. So that means I've got two favourite colours."
"Most people would have one favourite colour, not two."
"Well, I'm not most people." Logan winked and Odette rolled her eyes with a smile on her face.
"Yeah, of course, you're not. So what about your favourite meal?"
"Probably anything that has fried chicken in it. Oh, I love cakes and ice-cream too. So if you ever make me upset, just bring both of those over, along with a kiss on the cheek, and I'll forgive you instantly."
Odette chuckled and noted that mentally as well.
The two kept talking for a while longer, drifting from one topic to the next until Logan finally asked.
"What about your parents? Are they in the city as well?"
"Yes. They're currently in Alabama City." Odette replied with a nod.
"Is that far?" Since he hadn't gotten accustomed to this world yet, Logan wasn't sure if this new city was far or close to the one he was currently in.
Hence why he had asked if Alabama City was far from Starlight City.
"Not really. It's the closest city to Starlight City, and it's just as big too."
"Hmm, that reminds me. I can't help but find it strange my mom doesn't have any maids or butlers in this house. Do you know why?"
Odette stayed silent for a moment before saying, "I think the young master should ask the boss herself."
"Why? Are you saying you won't tell me?"
"I don't know if the boss would be happy if I tell you."
"Please, Odette. I need to know. I tried asking her why she was so good with the sword, but even that didn't get me an answer. Is there a reason why she chose to learn swordsmanship?"
"I really don't think I should..." Odette tried to get up, but Logan caught her arm and pulled her down gently, looking straight into her eyes.
Seeing his expression, Odette sighed and muttered softly to herself. "Boss is going to kill me if she finds out."
"It's alright. She won't. I promise." Logan assured her, and Odette bit her lip before sighing once again.
"Boss doesn't have any maids or butlers in the mansion because having so many people around gives her enemy the chance to watch her closely, and the boss doesn't like that."
"Her enemy? What do you mean by her enemy?"
"I mean she has an enemy, and the boss is willing to do anything to kill him."
"Whoa, what? Why?"
"All I know is that he killed someone close to her. So right now, she's her enemy's General Manager in his own company."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Back up a little. I don't get it. So you're saying she hates a guy enough to see him as her enemy, and she wants to kill him, and that's why she's been training in her swordsmanship?"
"Yes."
"Then why is she working for him?"
"I think it's because she wants to seize control of his company once he's dead," Odette replied bluntly, and now, it was Logan's turn to stay silent as he reclined on the couch to think about everything he'd heard so far.
"What's his name? And is there a reason why she wants him dead?" Logan asked, and Odette stayed quiet once again before reluctantly giving him an answer, allowing him to finally understand things a lot better.
A few years ago, Logan's father, Rogan Blackwell, was a really rich man with a CEO status in a small company he had been slowly rising up from its grassroot.
At the time, everything felt great for both of Logan's parents.
However, things suddenly began to go sideways when business contracts began to fall through, with partners quietly backing out one after another.
Even investors began pulling their money away without much explanation as to why, and then deals that should have closed simply began falling apart at the last minute for reasons Rogan could never quite pin down.
In a nutshell, Logan's late father's company began to go bankrupt, causing him to lose so many business partners and clients.
But what he and Logan's mother didn't know was that it had all been the handiwork of a man who had recently been regarded as the richest man in Starlight City.
His name was Ignacio Vega, and he had been Rogan's close friend, so Rogan could have never imagined that his friend was actually the one behind all the misfortune befalling his company.
However, when Rogan felt like there was no longer any hope of keeping his company safe, Ignacio proposed a solution that would involve having Rogan give up his wife to him.
But Rogan refused, and Ignacio didn't stop either.
He kept sending over presents while making it difficult for Rogan to find any significant breakthrough in saving his company.
In the end, Rogan's company went bankrupt, and Ignacio tried once again, even promising to give Rogan a respectable position in his own company.
But Logan's parents rejected his proposal.
So Ignacio decided to take a different approach by taking Rogan out of the picture entirely, while threatening to take Rowena's ten-year-old son next if she wasn't willing to become compliant.
In the end, Rowena had no choice but to sign the contract, because she didn't want to lose her son as well.
