Within the contract, three main clauses stood out the most.
In private, Rowena had to remain compliant, or else she risked losing her son.
For the second clause, she and her son would receive financial support, while Ignacio gained her legal status as his second wife, and the internet went wild the moment Ignacio announced having a second wife who had already been voted as one of the top three most beautiful women in several magazines over the years.
The third clause gave her privacy, along with everything Ignacio had left for her.
But one important thing needed to be said.
The cars, the mansion, along with the rich lifestyle Rowena currently lived in, all of it came from her own wealth which had been built through the nightclub she opened years after her husband's death.
But as for the villa, the cars, the yacht, and all the other luxuries Ignacio had left for her, all had remained abandoned till this day.
She hated Ignacio with every fiber of her being and that wasn't going to change even if he bought her the whole world.
Even though she was currently the General Manager of Ignacio's company, Rowena had never once spent from the huge salary sitting untouched in her bank account.
And Rowena doesn't seem to be changing this anytime soon.
Meanwhile, Logan sat completely still as Odette kept going.
She went into details about the announcement, along with the years that followed.
Then she explained how Ignacio had never made a single public appearance ever since he had announced to the world that Rowena was now his second wife.
Some said Ignacio had been traveling from one country to the next, so he was so busy carrying out business deals and building partnerships with various companies overseas.
Others said the burden of having two wives might be a bit too much, even for the richest man in Starlight City, hence why he had suddenly vanished from the public.
But there had also been rumors for years now, stating that Ignacio had grown severely ill and had gone into hiding to focus fully on taking care of himself, and many had begun to wonder where the richest man really was.
Hearing all this, Logan placed his palm against his face and stared at the ceiling.
"If he's in hiding and not running the company, then who is?" Logan asked.
"The minority shareholders are. Along with your mother."
Naturally, one would think that since she hated Ignacio, it would make sense for Rowena to run the company into the ground rather than work her way up the ranks.
But now that Logan had heard about the rumors concerning Ignacio, he could understand why his mother had decided to climb so high within the hierarchy, so that when something finally happened to Ignacio, no one would be able to stand in the way of her becoming the company's new CEO.
"But is he really alive?" Logan asked with a curious look crossing his face.
"Yes, he is. The boss confirms this herself." Odette replied before adding, "She says he's been present virtually in every board meeting she's attended, and he still leaves his signature on every important business agreement whenever it's needed."
This meant Ignacio was very much alive, and most likely, just as grievously ill as the rumors suggested.
"So that means if Mom waits a few more years, and his condition worsens, she might actually stand a really good chance of becoming CEO, right?" Logan asked, but Odette shook her head.
"I doubt that, young master."
"What do you mean?"
"The CEO of Vega Group Company recently announced his desire to have someone succeed him." She added, "And the person to fill that role was publicly named three days ago."
"Who is it?" Logan asked.
"It's Ignacio's daughter. Your stepsister."
"My stepsister?"
"Yes. She recently graduated from a top university abroad with an outstanding degree, and the first thing she did upon arriving in Starlight City was text the boss, asking her to find a different job because the moment she officially becomes CEO of Vega Group, she's promised to kick the boss out of the company, despite the boss having an exceptional record in the company's current growth."
Odette explained, and for the second time that night, Logan found himself short of words.
He never could have expected his stepsister to be brought into the picture like this.
In fact, he never could have imagined himself having a stepsister, and now it seemed like she already hated his mother or had hated her for years now.
Based on all the movies he'd watched in his previous life, Logan supposed he could understand why she wouldn't be any different from most characters hating their stepmother because in his stepsister's eyes, Rowena had clearly stolen her father from her mother.
Anyways, now it all made sense to him why his mother had such a small circle around her, and why she didn't trust just anyone so easily.
For years, she'd known about Ignacio having spies watching her and her son.
Many of those spies had suffered unimaginable fates, making it difficult for more of them to consider even surveilling her from a distance.
Even if Rowena had wanted butlers and maids in the mansion, it would have been easy for Ignacio to bribe them into working for him instead, and that was something Rowena refused to allow.
After all, Ignacio was the richest man in the city and no one would be brave enough to say NO to a person of his status.
It was certainly why she'd abandoned the thought of ever having a large security detail of her own.
Moreover, even in her nightclub, Rowena had figured out a couple of her employees were already working as informants for Ignacio's network of informants.
But she deliberately kept them alive anyway, because it was simply too tiring to kill them off all over again, only to have new ones take their place instead.
