Time passed, and everyone finally finished their meal.
Then Odette stood up to clear the plates from the table.
Watching as Odette slowly stepped out of the dining room, Delphine gently drifted her focus to her nephew.
"Mon cher?" Delphine called out softly as she stared at her hands on the dining table, and Logan noticed the serious look on her face, so he didn't say anything and waited for her to say what she had in mind.
"You asked if I knew Joseph Sinclair, right?"
"Yeah."
"Well, as you already know, he's from one of the top ten households in the country, and I'm sure you know who those guys are."
"Yeah, I do."
The Rainbow Federation was a really big country with its population tripling that of the largest country from Logan's previous world.
So this means that it would be extremely difficult for one person to truly remain in control of the country.
Yes, the Rainbow Federation is governed by its own president just like any other country across the world, but anyone with knowledge of politics in the country knows that the president of the Rainbow Federation is just a spineless figurehead chosen by at least one of the top ten households.
In other words, the real rulers were the top ten households, and Joseph Sinclair just happened to be from one of those prestigious households.
"As you may know or not know, each of the households is extremely powerful because of their ability to monopolize both big and small industries within the country." Delphine explained.
"And the same goes for Joseph Sinclair who's actually seen as a branch young master of the Sinclair Household, meaning that he sees himself as a family member with a lot to prove to his family for one reason or the other."
"So, you're saying he's after your company?" Logan asked as he was finally able to piece together the missing part as to why they had been attacked today.
"Yes, Mon cher. Just like the rest of his family, he takes pleasure in claiming ownership of big industries so as to do as he deems fit."
"If he buys your company, does he wish to sack you and all the staff working for you?"
"He might, yes."
"Is that why you do not want to sell it to him?"
"No, of course not."
"I'm confused."
"Yes, he might sack most of my staff members, but he's promised to let me remain as an important board member of the company."
"Then why don't you let him buy a few shares, at least with him owning a part of the company, his reputation might help improve the company's popularity."
"That, Mon cher, is the main reason why I can't let him have it."
"Because of his popularity?"
"No, because of his reputation. I've heard some disturbing rumours about him, but so far, the record about it has been under wraps, and this worries me because if those rumours became public information, it would destroy my company. For the Sinclair household's main family, to avoid being affected by Joseph's exploits, all they'll need to do is to cut him off from their family once and for all, and that won't be difficult for them to do. After all, he's just a branch member of the household."
Logan nodded in understanding.
He could see why his aunt was reluctant to let go of the company.
Delphine also mentioned how she had a larger percentage of shares of the company with the remaining shareholders having little percentages themselves.
So Delphine was determined to buy the remaining shares for herself so as to prevent Joseph Sinclair from having it completely.
But as for the disturbing rumours Delphine had mentioned earlier, Logan decided to ask for more clarification on the topic, but Delphine remained tight-lipped about the topic, so he didn't question it any further.
Anyways, he wondered if Delphine could really continue to stand her ground against a member of one of the top ten households.
It was certainly risky, and this made Logan really worried about his aunt's safety.
But as always, his aunt noticed the worried look on his face and tried to brush the worry out of her face as well by insisting that there was nothing to worry about and that all would be taken care of by her.
From her point of view, she was trying to act like the adult in the room, but Logan wasn't a kid either, so he didn't try to counter her act.
In the end, everyone made their way to bed after eating and resting.
But Logan couldn't sleep yet because he recalled promising his mother to give her a call the moment he arrived at Delphine's place, but until now he hadn't remembered to do so, and this made him hurriedly pick up his phone to call Rowena.
However, to his surprise, his mom had already called his cell three times.
"Shit."
"Three missed calls?"
"Mom's going to be so pissed off with me."
Logan didn't waste a second to call his mom back, and she answered it immediately.
"Hello, Mom."
"Hello, dear, I take it you're already at your aunt's place?"
"Yeah, I am, along with Odette too."
"That's great to hear, dear. I'm so glad you two got to her place safely."
"..." Logan remained silent because he genuinely found it strange how his mother was talking to him so calmly.
He had expected her to lash out at him or at least to feel a bit angry at him, but so far, she's been talking to him in a really relaxed tone, and that genuinely seemed even more scary than talking to an angry Rowena.
"Mom, about the calls I missed..."
"It's alright, peanut. Mommy already called Odette and she said you were preoccupied with watching sports, so it's fine, okay? Anyways, I hope your time with your aunt was fun?"
"Yeah, it was."
"So, everything is alright on your end?"
"Um, well, yeah."
Noticing the hesitance in his voice, Rowena asked with a worried tone in her voice. "What's wrong? Did something happen?"
