Time passed and Odette finally arrived at the mansion.
Then she made her way straight to a private room where Rowena was already waiting for her.
Upon seeing her half-elf employee, Rowena immediately gestured for Odette to have a seat and she began explaining what she had found out.
However, what Odette found out wasn't quite what either of them could have expected.
First off, a few things need to be known for better confirmation.
The original Logan on this world hadn't had a really good relationship with his mother for months and years now due to his mother being seemingly focused on her quest and thirst for vengeance, so the previous host had always felt left out with the sense that his mother never truly liked him.
Even the female bodyguard Rowena had left with him made the previous Logan a bit pissed off because he felt if his mother wasn't going to be spending time with him then he certainly didn't want to waste time with someone working for her as well.
In other words, he was in his rebellious phase, so he tried his best to leave the house without his bodyguard next to him.
His relationship with Odette wasn't really that good either due to how he was unhappy with how his mother kept distancing herself away from him.
In the end, he began visiting nightclubs and other dangerous locations at night to meet up with people that were of interest to him.
Although, his mother had a nightclub of her own, so he had every right to spend time in his mother's nightclub but rather than doing that, he had deliberately decided to visit other nightclubs and red light districts to entertain himself.
At least, from his mother and Odette's point of view, this was what they thought he had been doing these past few months since he developed this habit of his after clocking eighteen recently.
However, Odette had finally discovered the truth behind why he's been visiting those locations recently and she knew what he was doing in a nightclub last night prior to his death.
"Ma'am, I think we've been wrong about the young master after all."
"What do you mean?"
"I thought he visited nightclubs and whore houses to drink and waste money on women but I was wrong. Instead, from what I gathered, I heard he's been searching for something called a awakening fruit, or at least, he's been hoping to find one after hearing about the rumors regarding how the fruit is capable of gifting people the ability to use something called mana."
Hearing this, Rowena's brow creased as she listened even more to what Odette had to say.
"I heard he had visited a nightclub last night because he heard he would find someone who knew where a awakening fruit could be found, however, the person he went to meet turned out to be nothing more than a low-level gang member who saw the young master as an easy target."
Hearing what Odette had explained to her, Rowena was able to easily understand where this was heading.
Since young Logan was clearly a rich young man with no form of a bodyguard with him, he had clearly revealed himself as an easy target to the bad men watching from behind the shadows of that part of the city.
And in that part of the city, questions regarding awakening fruits and mana could easily get you noticed for the wrong reasons and word spread fast among the bouncers spying on him.
In other words, it didn't take long for others to get wind of someone snooping around the slums asking about awakening fruits and mana.
But what little Logan didn't know was that he shouldn't have come there in the first place, and he definitely shouldn't have been asking out loud for what he had been hoping to find.
He should have left whilst he had the chance, but before he realised he had overstayed his welcome, it was already too late for him to leave because before he knew it, several men cornered him in the alley behind the club and each one of them beat the daylights out of him.
This was exactly what Odette explained to Rowena, and the beautiful elf momma sadly placed her palm on her face.
'It's my fault.'
'No matter how I look at it, it's all my fault.'
Rowena blamed herself as she felt if she hadn't distanced herself from him due to her thirst for revenge, she probably would have been spending more time with him and the two of them would have probably discussed him chasing after the awakening fruit.
But since she had distanced herself from him for so long, little Logan never thought to bring up the topic to his mother, and since he clearly wasn't close to Odette either, he had never told her about it as well.
This immediately made Rowena regret how she's been treating her son until now.
At first, she thought her son had only been visiting the red light districts to fuck some whores as a distraction from all the stress he's been experiencing but it turned out her son never had such dirty thoughts to begin with because his mind had always been focused on chasing after some urban legend.
Realising this, Rowena clenched her fist as she tried to hold back the tears desperately trying to stream down her cheeks.
The thought of losing him the first time was just too much for a mother like her and she would do anything to make sure a second time never happens again.
And so, with this thought in mind, Rowena immediately glanced at Odette. "Tell me you have the names of those fools."
"Y-yes, ma'am. I have the names of every bouncer working that night, including the names of the first two who threw the first punch." Odette instantly sent over the names to Rowena's DM and she frowned upon seeing it.
"I need to make a few calls, then I'll be leaving immediately." Rowena said as she stood up from her seat.
Seeing this, Odette instantly followed.
"Please, ma'am, I wish to accompany you."
"No, I need you to stay here and watch over my son, okay?" Rowena ordered, leaving no room for Odette to decline.
"As you wish, ma'am." Odette nodded in understanding before watching silently as her boss left the room.
