When Lin Haochen and the others returned home, the housekeeper had already prepared lunch.
Lin Mushu habitually turned on the TV to watch the news while she ate.
“At a press conference today, Deng Wenbin, the head of Qihui Long Country, announced that the Qihui Conglomerate is preparing to invest in two major projects in Jin City.
One is the Celestial Valley Exchange, Jin City’s largest commercial district, while the other will be revealed in three days.”
“Sigh, I’ve been trying to meet with President Deng to discuss the Celestial Valley Exchange project for a while now, but it’s been two weeks and I haven’t been able to see him even once.”
Lin Mushu’s eyes dimmed as she spoke.
If Muchen Group could partner with Qihui Long Country on the Celestial Valley Exchange project, they would no longer have to be intimidated by Li Hongrui’s Wansheng Group.
Wu Qingqing pursed her lips.
“There’s nothing we can do.
Our company is insignificant compared to the scale of Qihui Long Country, so it’s only normal that they don’t take us seriously.
The key issue right now is how we’re going to deal with Wansheng Group!
This is all your fault for getting physical with Li Hongrui this morning.
Now they’ll be out for blood.
And those shareholders are putting Sister Mushu under immense pressure!”
“I don’t care who he is.
Anyone who dares to mess with my sister is asking to die!”
Lin Haochen smiled faintly.
‘If everything went according to plan, Li Hongrui should be dead by now.’
Wu Qingqing shot Lin Haochen a fierce glare.
“Hmph!
All you care about is your moment of satisfaction.
Now the entire Muchen Group is going to be dragged down with you!”
Wu Qingqing was very close to Lin Mushu.
She had played a huge part in building Muchen Group to its current scale, so naturally, she didn’t want to see it collapse.
But at that very moment, a breaking news report interrupted the broadcast.
“We have breaking news: Li Hongrui, the chairman of Wansheng Group, committed suicide at his company at eleven o’clock this morning.
He left behind a suicide note, and the possibility of foul play has been preliminarily ruled out.”
As the report aired, both Lin Mushu and Wu Qingqing turned to look at Lin Haochen.
There was no proof, but it was far too much of a coincidence.
‘Lin Haochen had just declared that Li Hongrui was asking to die, and now he was dead?
Or had Haochen said that because he already knew it was going to happen?’
“Why are you all looking at me?
He committed suicide.
It’s not like he was murdered.”
Lin Haochen said nonchalantly.
Lin Mushu shook her head.
‘I can’t believe this has anything to do with Haochen,’ she thought.
‘Even if he wanted to do something, he doesn’t have that kind of power.
It has to be a coincidence.’
Seeing that Lin Mushu didn’t press the issue, Lin Haochen continued, “Sister, if you could secure the partnership with Qihui Long Country, would that be enough to get Muchen Group through this crisis?”
“Yes, but President Deng refuses to see me.
He’s only discussed the project with the Five Great Families.
Muchen Group doesn’t stand a chance.”
Seeing the dejected look in Lin Mushu’s eyes, Lin Haochen’s heart ached.
“Sister, why don’t you try going to see him again this afternoon?
Maybe he’s had a change of heart.”
But Lin Mushu shook her head.
“I’ve tried to see him every day for two weeks, and he’s refused every time.
Going again would be pointless.
Besides, Muchen Group’s situation is grim right now.
It makes them even less likely to partner with us.”
“Sister Mushu, I think you should go one more time,” Wu Qingqing chimed in.
“You saw the ugly looks on the board members’ faces this morning.
Half of them have been bought out by Wansheng Group.
If we can’t land this major project, Muchen Group will really fall into someone else’s hands.”
Wu Qingqing also wanted Lin Mushu to give it another try.
Who knew, maybe Deng Wenbin really had changed his mind.
That would be the breakthrough they were looking for!
Hearing both Lin Haochen and Wu Qingqing say so, Lin Mushu began to waver.
“Sister, when I was studying abroad, Deng Wenbin came to give a lecture.
I spoke with him briefly, and he’s actually very approachable.
As long as you can get a meeting with him, you should be able to land the project.”
Lin Haochen said with a smile.
This was the only way to ensure Lin Mushu wouldn’t get suspicious when she met Deng Wenbin.
He didn’t want to reveal his true identity just yet.
“But I can’t even get a meeting with President Deng, so how can I talk to him?”
Hearing Lin Haochen’s words, Lin Mushu wavered even more.
But she knew the real difficulty wasn’t the conversation, but simply getting a chance to see Deng Wenbin!
Just then, Lin Haochen took out his phone, scrolled through it for a moment, and handed it to Lin Mushu.
“I got his personal number the last time I saw him.
You can try calling it directly.”
Lin Mushu took the phone in confusion and dialed Deng Wenbin’s number into her own phone.
As she did, her eyes caught another name in the contact list: Chen Chuan!
‘Chen Chuan is one of the Dragon Country’s top leaders!
He’s in charge of national security and holds the ultimate decision-making authority over all of the Dragon Country’s major military commands!’
‘It must just be someone with the same name.
My brother only has Deng Wenbin’s number because he went to his lecture.
The personal number of one of the country’s top leaders isn’t something just anyone can get.
I should focus on the matter at hand for now.’
Lin Mushu pushed the thought aside, her heart pounding with anxiety.
This phone call could very well decide the life or death of Muchen Group!
The call connected, and just two seconds later, someone answered!
Lin Mushu immediately shot up from her seat.
She knew the person on the other end could tell the difference in her voice whether she was standing or sitting!
“Hello, this is Deng Wenbin.
To whom am I speaking?”
