Lydia cuffed Aunt Agatha’s hands behind her back.

I was staring at them.

“Sit in the car,” Lydia said, gritting her teeth.Full novel: Vengeful Howl; The Secret Alpha — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The impatient laugh appeared on Aunt Agatha’s face.

“It was just my hand reflex,” Aunt Agatha giggled.

“I am certain that my hand did not touch her face.” Lydia rolled her eyes.

Lydia made Aunt Agatha sit in the police car.

“Listen to me,” Aunt Agatha yelled.

She sounds urgent.

Lydia opened the car door, and then she hopped in the car.

I extended my hand and clutched her hand firmly.

Lydia shifted her gaze from the car seat to my face.

“Do not ask me that.

Because she hit the woman, and you see Halen was bleeding,” Lydia spoke softly.

My lips carved into a smile.

“Please, give her a warning and let her go.” My tone matched hers.

Lydia shook her head.

She made a claw around my hand, clutched my hand, and gently pushed it away.

Lydia then gave me a sidelong glance.

Meanwhile, Halen reached out to us.

Her face was bloody.

The thick red drops of blood were falling on the ground.

The fiery and intense anger were visible in her eyes.

“Take her to the police station.” Anger sharpened her voice.

“I want you to press charges on her because I want to see her behind the bar.”

Halen wiped the blood from her face with the back of her hand.

Lydia shut the car door.

She gently pushed me to the side.

“Halen, you should see the doctor because I already booked her for the offense I committed.” Anger vibrated her voice.

Halen pinched the bridge of her nose.

In the interim, someone bumped into me.

I tripped, lost my balance, and bumped into Halen.

She turned around to face me and gave me a double-handed shove.

I raised my hand in peace.

“I can put you in jail with her.” There were tremors in her voice.

Lydia stepped in the middle of us.

Lydia’s face was tensed.

“Have you lost your mind?” Anger cleared her voice.

“You cannot put her in jail because it is my job.”

Lydia pressed her lips together; it was indicating her controlled anger.

Before Halen said something, Lydia started speaking again.

“Helen, she is just a kid.

Please go home,” she said with authority.

Halen gave her head a nod while walking off.

Lydia placed her hand on my cheek.

A small smile lit up her lips.

“Go home,” she said.

Lydia’s voice was low.

I dropped my hands on my sides.

And saw Lydia get in the car and drive off.

I noticed when they were leaving Aunt Agatha was sitting on the back seat with a bowed head.

I think she is now regretting her decision to punch Halen across her face.

But now we cannot do anything because now she has to face the consequences.

I sucked my teeth.

I think I should get the keys and drive home by myself.

A minute later, I started walking towards the parking lot, where I saw guests leaving in their cars.

I noticed Aunt Agatha’s car was parked in the third row.

Before I approached the car, a man approached me and started speaking.

“Umm…

I am sorry to inform you that all the blue car’s tires have been stolen, and I am afraid you cannot take this car.” Emotion has shaken his voice.

My eyebrows shot up, and it painted a question mark on my forehead.

I was surprised that you stole the tires when the whole car was parked in front of you.

Then suddenly my gaze fell on the piece of paper in my hand.

I furrowed my eyebrows like I was trying to figure something out.

It was odd that I did not know what this paper was doing in my hand because my hands were empty.

I unfolded the paper and started reading it.

“You should be careful because people in this town people did not show their real intention.” As I read that, my hands started trembling.

Suddenly, a voice touched my ears.

“Hi, I can give you a ride.” His voice was barely above a whisper.

I flinched and suddenly looked behind and saw Damon standing there.

He was rolling the key chain in his index finger.

The corners of his mouth moved upwards into a smile.

“I did not mean to scare you.” His voice was steady.

“I thought you needed a ride, so I came, but if you are not comfortable travelling with me, then it is okay.”

I drew a long breath.

My face broke into a smile.

I bit my lips.

A quick nod escaped from me in response.

Afterwards, Damon led me to the car parked in the first row.

I walked over to the car and hopped in the passenger seat.

Damon got in the car, grabbed the wheel, and started driving the car.

I placed my hands on my lap.

I started looking outside through the glass window.

The stars were twinkling in the sky.

The sky was partially covered with dark clouds.

Damon said while deeply sighing.

“Callie, can we talk about Max?” His voice was steady.

I looked at Damon with a furrowed brow.

I clicked my tongue.

“What about him?” I delivered my words with firmness.

Damon ran his hand through his hair.

He took a deep breath.

“He is not who you think he is,” Damon spoke quietly.

I gave a quick nod to show I was not cool with it.

“You always say that,” my voice is unwavering.

“I did not find him to be a bad guy.”

Damon grappled the staring wheel firmly.

“He walked out on you today, right after Isabel lost it.

Does not that mean something?” I sensed anger in his voice.

I crossed my arms over my chest.

“He had his reasons,” I said.

Anger caused my voice to become high-pitched.

Damon is also not giving up.

He clenched his jaw, grinding his teeth together as he wrestled with his inner frustration.

“Reasons?

Like what?

Leaving before you even got to talk?” His voice was husky and biting, each word a deliberate strike.

Every word that was coming out of Damon’s mouth was making me angry.

I exhaled sharply, a vocal expression of my annoyance.

“You do not understand him” A low rumble came out of my mouth.

Damon breathes through his mouth.

His face became tense.

I noticed that he was fuming with anger.

“I am trying to protect you” Damon spoke with a quiet, resonant tone.

My eyes flew open with surprise.

I scoffed.

“Protect me?

By badmouthing him?

That is not helpful,” I yelled.

My voice was excessively loud.

“Why do I have a feeling that you hate his existence?” Damon gave his head a nod.

Damon remained silent.

His chest rose and fell with a rapid breath.

He dropped his left hand on his side.

“It is the truth.

I just do not want you to get hurt.” Damaon took a small pause and a minute later started speaking again.

“And it is not true that I hate him, but I also do not want to see him around the people I care about.” A genuine smile appeared on my face.

I rubbed my hands on my forearm.

The temperature is getting cold inside the car.

As Damon saw, he took off his leather jacket and handed it over to me.

I sucked in a big breath.

I do not have a choice but to accept what he was offering me.

I grabbed the jacket and put it on.

I leaned against the car seat.

“You think I cannot handle myself?” There was an edge of firmness in my voice.

I rolled my eyes.

Damon crossed his legs.

He was hesitant before speaking.

“No, it is not that” he said, pausing.

“I just care.” Damon then glanced at my face.

I looked into his eyes.

I rubbed my hands together while lowering my gaze.

I then pulled my hair up and made a bun on the back of my head.

“I was stupid.” My voice drops to an audible level.

Meanwhile, the car suddenly sputters, then dies.

Damon suddenly punched the steering wheel.

It seemed he was letting out his frustration on the car.

“Great.

Just great,” Damon said while moving the car keys in the ignition.

He tried to start the car, but his every effort was in vain when the car did not start.

I tightened my hands into my fists.

“I think I should go home on foot.” My voice was rising.

I unclenched my fists.

Damon’s head dipped in a brief nod.

It was like he was mad at himself.

A quick nod escaped me.

I then turned to the car door, opened it, and hopped out of the car.

Out of nowhere, a car appeared in the middle of the road and hit me while the car drove off.

I screamed and dropped to my knees.

My voice was laced with pain.

I started sobbing.
