I was sitting, leg inwards on the highway, panting, and my eye darted on the ground.
My eyes welled up with tears because of the pain I felt when the car drove past me, hitting my shoulder.
Damon dashed to me, crouched down, and clutched my hand.
I grabbed my shoulder firmly.
“Are you okay?” His voice was not steady.
I shifted my gaze from the ground to Damon’s face.
The raindrops dropped on his face.
And they turned into diamonds beads.
His eyes were filled with fear.
I sensed concern in his voice.
I sucked my teeth.
“I am fine.” My voice was low.
Damon made me stand up.
Our clothes were drenched with water because of the cats’ and dogs’ rain.
I then gently pushed Damon’s hand away.
Damon silently lowered his gaze.
He then touched the back of his head and started rubbing it.
Damon grunted.
He shook his head.
I groaned.
“What now?” I asked.
There were tremors in my voice.
I do not know why my mood changed in a second; maybe it is because I was angry at him for saying that I should stay away from Max.
“Guess we walk home.” Damon scoffed.
“Yes, but you have no problem because you were already taking off on foot.” My hand finds its way to my waist.
I tilted my head; my eyes burrowed with puzzlement.
“You mean we walk in this rain?” My voice is soft.
“Hmm…
But a question stuck in my mind.
“Why is Max sacrificing it?”
Damon’s head dipped in a brief nod.
“Look, it’s coming down hard, and I think it hit your head, which is why you are talking foolishly.” Damon gave his head a nod in frustration.
“And we wait here a minute longer, then we will get sick,” I heard Damon say.
A moment later, Damon took my hand and pulled me over to a nearby tree.
Its roots stretched out for yards.
It was huge!
The branches reached out, and the leaves were catching the rain, making it fall slowly.
I sucked in a big breath.
“Can we at least wait a bit in the car?” I asked with a weak chuckle.
Damon looked away.
Damon avoided my gaze; his eyes darted around the forest.
And that is the time I figured out that he did something wrong.
“The car is locked, and I cannot unlock it because I left the car keys inside, and I think we should start moving,” Damon said, pausing.
“I mean, it is not like it will stop anytime soon.
I pressed my lips together; it indicated my controlled anger.
I crossed my arms over my chest.
“You are amazing.
I mean, leaving a car key inside the car only a genius can do that.” I took a small pause and a minute later started speaking again.
“Also, I want to tell you that I will not stop talking to Max.”
Damon sniffled.
“Then, okay.
But know I will always be here,” Daman said while beginning to walk.
Damon’s answer surprised me.
It was strange. The source of this chapter is g.com.
The look of surprise was quickly replaced by suspicion.
“You would?” I giggled.
“You are a good friend.” I delivered my words with firmness.
I started walking with him side by side.
The world around us had gotten blurry.
Damon shrugged his shoulder.
He then jammed his hands in his pants pocket.
“Rain always lightens the mood,” Damon said while nodding.
I lowered my gaze for a second and glanced at Damon.
I said quietly.
“That’s… sweet.” I stomped into the water and splashed it on.
The smirk appeared on Damon’s face.
“Sweet, huh?” He spoke with a firm tone.
I spread my arm while lifting my head up, feeling every drop touched my face.
“Do not get cocky,” I said.
A quick nod escaped to Damon.
“Just stating facts,” he added with a grin.
I poked Damon with an index finger on his shoulder.
“But if I slip, you better catch me,” I said while deeply sighing.
The corners of Damon’s mouth were moved upwards into smile.
“Count on it.” A low rumble came out of his mouth.
We both stepped in the rain, splashing water on each other.
The tension shifted, the air thick with unspoken feelings.
A minute later, I started walking ahead of Damon.
Damon yelled.
“Just remember, I am only a few steps behind.” His voice was excessively loud.
I turned around to face Damon.
My face broke into a smile.
I gestured with a thumb.
I do not know how my emotions shifted from sadness and disappointment to happiness.
I am feeling much better now.
I know things did not turn out as I expected, but I still have a feeling that everything will be fine.
A few minutes later, we arrived home.
As we reached the door, Damon stopped me from going onto the porch.
He removed the rug from the porch, clutched the key, held it out for me to see, and then unlocked the door with the key.
I saw Damon shivering as I stepped into the house.
I knit my eyebrows together.
“What happened to you?” I scoffed.
Damon tipped his head forward in assent.
“You have my leather jacket.” As I heard that, I shifted my gaze to the jacket, which I was wearing, and bit my tongue.
“Sorry,” I said while taking off my jacket.
I then handed it over to Damon.
But then I noticed that water was dripping from Damon’s clothes.
I motioned Damon to come inside the house.
I then dashed upstairs, went to my room, and changed my clothes in a hurry.
Later, I went to the bathroom, grabbed the towel, and came back downstairs to Damon.
Damon’s lips carved into a smile.
He grabbed a towel and started drying his hair while I just stood there watching him.
I thought it was kind of strange, so I ran my fingers through my wet hair.
I then brushed my hands together and began walking towards the couch and took a seat. Get faster updates on g.com.
Then I heard Damon sneeze and shot him a glare.
“Where are you going?” There was urgency in my voice.
Damon’s eyes widened with a sudden jolt of surprise.
His eyes were making me nervous.
I need to come up with something to make him stay, as he has to go home eventually.
I rubbed my hands on my thighs.
“I mean, I do not want to stay alone.” I started tapping with my toe.
“I am trying to say, can you give me company until Aunt Agatha comes home?” I shuddered.
Damon looked at me with a plastered smile on his face.
“You are again doing this,” Damon said.
His voice was firm.
I grabbed the edge of the couch and stood up.
Just wait here; I will bring coffee for you,” I said while walking in the kitchen.
The rain still poured outside, its rhythm echoing through the quiet house.
I grabbed two mugs and poured the coffee, the warm aroma filling the air.
I suddenly heard a loud bang.
But then I froze.
There were faint footsteps coming from the living room.
I looked at the door with a furrowed brow.
I was standing there thinking that Damon should not have to move.
I called out Damon’s name, my voice trembling slightly.
When I did not get any response, I started getting worried.
The house went silent.
Only the sound of rain, and then I heard a whisper.
So soft I almost thought It could be my figment of imagination.
My hands started trembling, and then I stepped towards the doorway.
My heart was pounding in my chest.
And at that time, I got a certain realization that there is a room in the basement, which we discovered, and it also have a closet.
I started panting.
My grip of mugs started getting tightened.
I looked around cautiously.
But when I stepped back into the living room, Damon was not there.
I walked over to the coffee table, leaned forward, and put the coffee mugs on the table.
I then stood straight and dropped my hands on my side.
“Where you are?” My voice dropped to an audible level.
I then walked over to the stairs with muffled footsteps.
It seemed like my feet barely touched the ground.
I squeezed my hands into fists.
I gave my head a nod.
“Damon, Damon,” I spoke with quiet tone.
I was wondering if he is even human.
Maybe he’s some creature from another world, which is why he just disappeared like that.
I swallowed hard.
I took a deep breath to calm myself because I cannot just run outside; it is too late, and I am new here.
So, danger is everywhere for me.
The impatient laugh appeared on my face.
I started tapping my finger on my teeth because I am scared now.
Meanwhile, I heard the front door creak open.
A cold wind rushed in, and I turned around and dashed downstairs.
Suddenly, my gaze fell on the door, which was ajar.
I saw muddy footprints leading out into the rain.
