Ahhh…Ahhhh…
The sounds around me woke me up.
I opened my eyes, looked to my right side, and saw two men shouting at each other.
“You did this.
I know you are responsible,” one man said.
A bitter edge sharpened her voice.
Disoriented, I glanced around and found myself in a hospital bed.
I struggled to sit up, then leaned back against the cool, starched pillow.
My gaze drifted to the bed next to mine, where I noticed a woman lying down.
When I came back to my senses.
I looked at the men with narrow eyes.
I then realized who they are.
The one man is Max, whom I met in the police station, and the second one is the man whom I saw at the site of the burning house last night.
It was strange for me that every time I bumped into Max, he was present when a strange thing occurred.
I gave my head a slight nod.
I looked at Max with narrow eyes.
His brown eyes and blond hair attract me to him.
It seemed like I wanted him to be around me.
The mouth of my corners moved upwards into a smile.
I ran my hand through my hair.
In the meantime, a voice pulled me back into reality.
I found myself staring at them, listening to what they were saying.
“You burned the house down.
Terry is dead,” the man said.
A hint of anger colored his words.
Max crossed his arms over his chest.
“Damon, um…
you are unbelievable.
You think if anything bad happens in this town, I am behind it,” Max said while looking into Damon’s eyes.
“Get out of my face.” Damon said.
Anger vibrated in his voice.
Damon grabbed Max by his neck and then put him against the wall.
Max gave Damon a double-handed shove.
Damon lost his balance and bumped into the bed where the woman was lying.
Max clenched his fist, then punched Damon in the face.
Meanwhile, Dorian stepped into the room.
As Dorian saw that, he intervened by standing between them.
Dorian clutched Damon’s hand firmly.
“I want both of you to stand away from each other,” Dorian said.
His voice was steady.
“How did you get here?” Dorian looked at Max with a furrowed brow.
“As far as I remember, I left you in the jail cell.” Damon jerked Dorian’s hand.
Max remained silent.
I think he did not think it was appropriate to answer Dorian.
Dorian grabbed Max by his arm and pulled him.
“I am asking you, “What are you doing here, and how did you get out?” There was an undercurrent of anger in his voice.
Max touched the back of his head and started rubbing it.
A small smile played on Max’s lips.
“Hmm…
you know, Lydia, let me go,” Max spoke in a quiet tone.
In the meantime, Lydia showed up from nowhere and jumped into the conversation.
“No, no, no, he is lying.” There was urgency in her voice.
Dorian shifted his gaze from me to Lydia’s face.
She was standing in the doorway.
There was worry evident on her face.
“What are you talking about?” There was an edge of firmness in his voice.
“I am saying that he is lying.
I was in the police station, sitting on a chair, and I closed my eyes for a second.
When I opened my eyes, I found out that he was not in the jail cell.” Lydia took a small pause and a minute later started speaking again.
“I got scared, and at that moment I received a call that the Ken family was under attack on the highway, so I just ran to the scene.” Fear shakes her voice.
“You forgot to lock the door,” Marty yelled.
His voice was trembling with rage.
We all shifted our gaze to the entrance of the room.
“No, the door was locked, but the iron bars of the cell were broken,” Lydia claimed.
Her
Damon stepped forward.
Damon ran his hand through his hair, tugging slightly in the growing frustration.
“He burned the house down and attacked my family,” Damon said while gritting his teeth.
Damon said while gritting his teeth.
Before Marty said something, Max jumped into the conversation.
“No, I did not.” Max said.
His voice was soft.
Damon scoffed.
“Yes, you did,” Damon replied.
I felt sarcasm in his voice.
Now, it is my turn to explain that Max is telling the truth.
If I keep silent now, then I will let them hurt an innocent man.
I stood up and glanced at them.
I was a little hesitant at first, but later I spoke.
My voice was low, almost swallowed by the room.
“He is not the one who attacks us.”
Everybody started looking at me with a worried face.
When I saw their eyes on me.
I got nervous.
I gulped and spoke.
“I mean, Max did not attack us,” I spoke with a firm tone.
Damon took my hand in a firm grip and drew me near.
I glanced into Damon’s eyes.
It seemed like his eyes were consumed by blood.
The tension started brewing between me and Damon.
I bit my lips nervously, my teeth digging into soft flesh as fear took hold.
“You are hurting me.
I whispered as I choked, “Damon looks down at my arm and lets my arm go.
Dorian shifted his gaze from Marty to my face.
Dorian knits his eyebrows together.
Before Dorian formed a word to say something, Marty interrupted me rudely.
“What do you mean by that?
Did you see who attacked them?
A low rumble came from his mouth.
I lowered my gaze for a second and then looked at Marty’s face.
“It was an animal.
It had fangs and yellow eyes.
It had a scary face.”
“Enough.” Marty yelled.
“I do not want to witness this drama anymore.
You are both going to the police station with Lydia and Dorian.” The words dripped with the venom of his anger.
Damon jammed his hand in his jacket pocket.
The crease appeared on Damon’s forehead.
As soon as Damon heard that, he started shouting.
“I cannot go.
My sister is in an operating theater.
My mom is lying on the bed, passed out.
His voice was laced with sadness and worry.
Marty’s eyes stretched wide with a sudden jolt of surprise.
“So, you are saying that you are here for your family and that you care about them because I think you are here to settle a score with…” His voice was strong.
“Uncle,” Damon said.
His eyes welled up with tears.
It seemed like he was fighting with his own tears.
Marty looked at Dorian.
Marty placed his hand on his waist.
The atmosphere got hot.
“Take them to the police station.
I will deal with them later.” Dorian and Lydia seized Max’s and Damon’s hands and started leading them to the exit.
Max grinned, while Damon visibly bristled at the prospect of being taken to the police station.
Damon shouted.
“I am not going.” Marty looked at me.
He scratched his beard.
“You should go with them,” Marty said.
His voice was steady.
When I heard that, I started following Lydia outside the hospital.
I was quiet, and my head was bowed.
My gaze was fixed on the ground.
Lydia made Max and Damon sit in the car.
Damon kept shouting.
“He did not want to leave.” His voice was trembling with rage.
Walking towards the driver’s side, Lydia noticed me standing by the hospital entrance.
Dorian then entered the car and settled into the passenger seat.
Dorian rolled down the glass window.
Dorian yelled.
“Where are you going?” Lydia, I want to go home tonight, which I think is impossible.” Her voice was a taut string, humming with anger.
Lydia looked back with an angry face at Dorian, who is in the car sitting in the passenger seat.
Lydia reached out to me.
Lydia moved her eyebrows upwards.
I was wringing my hands.
I was nervous.
“What are you doing here?” Lydia spoke with a quiet, resonant tone.
I tightened my lips together.
“Er…
Marty said I should go with you to the police station, but I think I should go to Barbra’s house,” I said.
There were tremors in my voice.
Lydia crossed her arms over her chest.
“Are your parents there?” Lydia asked.
She delivered her words with firmness.
I inclined my head in disagreement.
“No, umm…
I did not inform them about the incident.
I do not want to make them worry,” I replied.
My voice was low in a murmur.
Lydia rolled her eyes.
“Whatever the case, Marty is right.
You should go with us until your parents come,” Lydia said while grabbing my hand and taking me to the police car.
When we were leaving, I saw an ambulance parked on the driveway and saw a man coming out along with a woman whose head was bleeding.
