This thing was covered in creaking, scrapped iron plates.
It looked like a giant metal trash can with two stubby hydraulic legs.
Two buzzing saws were brandished at the front, an oil-leaking flamer hung below, and a Zzap Gun that looked like it could explode at any moment was mounted on top, with cables hanging out like intestines.
“Look at that!
My new toy!!” Bad Sabba stood atop the mecha, waving a large electrified wrench and laughing maniacally.
“Break the gate!
Break the gate!
Tear down that gate!!” The Zzap Gun began to turn, aiming directly at the massive hinges of the Argus Gate.
Once that shot was fired, the city gate would surely fall.
“Tarkus!” Avitus roared.
“That thing is about to fire!” “I see it.” Tactical Sergeant Tarkus’s voice remained calm.
He and Thaddeus were currently entangled by a large group of Kommandos and couldn’t break free for the moment.
“Interrupt its charging!
Or break its legs!” Alex looked at the moving mountain of trash through his scope.
He saw through the absurdity of Ork engineering at a single glance—it was everywhere.
This thing didn’t conform to structural mechanics at all; it was held up entirely by a few crudely welded supports.
“This whole thing is full of weaknesses, I don’t even know which one to hit…” Despite his complaining, Alex’s hands moved as fast as lightning.
He didn’t hit the thick front armor, nor did he aim for the gun barrel that might explode.
His crosshairs locked onto the knee joint of the mecha’s left leg—there was a hydraulic main shaft spraying oil.
Alex pushed the power of the laser cannon to the limit of this old machine.
Zzzzt—!
A series of beam shots precisely sliced through that hydraulic shaft.
Crack!
A loud bang echoed.
Having lost its support, the Killa Kan’s left leg buckled instantly.
The massive body tilted violently to the left, and the muzzle of the Zzap Gun, originally aimed at the gate, pointed toward the sky due to the loss of balance.
Boom—!
A thick bolt of lightning shot into the clouds, turning the sky a ghastly white.
“Ow!
My leg!
Which git broke my leg?!” Bad Sabba clutched the railing in distress, howling in rage.
Cyrus, who had been lurking like a ghost on the edge of the battlefield, made his move.
A sniper round precisely blew out the force field generator behind Bad Sabba.
The blue shield flickered once and vanished.
“Thaddeus!
Now!” Tarkus ordered.
A red meteor cut through the smoke and dust.
Assault Space Marine Thaddeus activated his jump pack’s maximum thrust, leaping across hundreds of meters and slamming heavily onto the Killa Kan’s shoulder like a cannonball.
The Chainsword roared, slicing through the obstructions.
Bad Sabba raised his large wrench in terror to parry, but it was too late.
Thaddeus kicked Bad Sabba in the chest, sending the Ork Mek into the exposed cockpit, then pulled out a Melta Bomb, yanked the pin, and tossed it inside.
“This is a gift from the Emperor!” Thaddeus flipped away.
Boom—!!!
A miniature sun rose inside the mecha.
The arrogant, ridiculous creation melted from the inside out due to the high temperature.
Steel turned into molten iron and gushed out, turning Bad Sabba inside into burning slag.
The massive blast wave swept across the entire battlefield.
The Greenskins watched their boss turn into a torch, stunned for two seconds before letting out terrified screams.
“Waaagh’s gone!
Boss is a firework!
Run!
Run!
Run!” The rout began.
Alex leaned back in the turret, looking at the burning wreckage and then at Thaddeus, who was roaring while holding his Chainsword high.
“A bunch of lunatics…” Just then, a red iron hand slapped onto the roof armor of the chimera.
Alex jumped in surprise and poked his head out.
Avitus was standing by the vehicle.
His helmet, blackened by smoke and soot, lowered slightly as his red eye lenses stared at Alex.
This Space Marine, known for his irritability and loathing of mortals, actually didn’t curse this time.
“mortal.” Avitus’s voice was deep, like an idling tank engine.
“Your marksmanship did not bring shame to the Emperor.” He paused, seemingly searching for the right words.
“Can I take that as a compliment?” “Hmph.” Avitus didn’t answer, simply turning to stride toward the city gate, his heavy bolter chambering another round.
The moment Bad Sabba exploded into fireworks, a strange disconnect appeared on the battlefield.
The Guardsmen on the gate line were still cheering for repelling the Greenskins, some even throwing their hats into the air.
But in Alex’s vision, that small group of red giants showed no sign of celebration.
Alex saw Tarkus suddenly stop in his tracks—a sudden halt in mid-stride, his combat boots carving two deep furrows in the sand.
He pressed the communication array on the side of his helmet, standing as still as a statue for two seconds.
No sound came out.
That was the Astartes’ internal encrypted channel; mortal ears had no right to listen.
But anyone with eyes could see something had happened.
On the battlefield, it was always like this; accidents would follow one after another.
Tarkus turned around, his movements no longer the leisurely pace of cleaning up trash, but filled with a violent urgency.
He made a gesture to Avitus and Thaddeus—regroup and advance at full speed.
Avitus strode past the chimera, his red power armor clanging loudly against the armor plates, and simply pointed his muzzle to the east.
“Keep up.
Don’t fall behind.” Only that one sentence.
Immediately after, the chimera was driven over by Guardsmen veterans.
The Astartes didn’t even wait for everyone to gather before they began to advance.
“Quick!
Drive!
Follow the Angels!” The engine roared as the chimera smashed through the burning Ork wreckage, heading east.
