The disruption field passed easily through the chitinous shell.
Lancelot then drew back his sword and turned sideways, letting the corpse fly past him.
At that moment, high-temperature lasgun fire from the shadows kept shooting out, licking across the armor on his body.
Unfortunately, the mortal weapons these creatures had managed to obtain were far too weak.
Lancelot did not even pay them any attention.
At the same time the corpse hit the floor, his blade had already cut diagonally outward, splitting the second one that followed close behind from shoulder to shoulder.
Blood sprayed like rain.
Scarlet lasfire formed radial flowers across his pitch-black power armor, but slid off along the curved surfaces of the ceramite without leaving the slightest mark.
Lancelot rapidly launched his assault.
After the third, fourth, and fifth realized they could not escape, they pounced at him at the same time.
Lancelot stepped left.
It was not a large step, but it was just enough to avoid their attacks.
In the next instant, his power sword drew a perfect arc through the air.
First, it cut upward from below, severing the fourth creature’s forearms.
The moment the severed limbs flew up, his blade had already borrowed the force of his turning body and chopped into the fifth creature’s spine.
The sound of breaking bone was like wet wood snapping.
Lancelot withdrew his sword and thrust out his left palm, pressing it against the lower jaw of the third monster as it turned and pounced again.
Its claws flailed wildly.
At their closest, they were only one centimeter from his helmet.
But that one centimeter could never be crossed, because Lancelot had already smashed its entire head backward, exposing its throat.
The sword tip stabbed in, pulled out, and the corpse collapsed at his feet.
From start to finish, it had taken no more than three seconds.
Six chicken thieves (Genestealers) lay dead on the ground.
These were probably first-generation hybrid Genestealers, but there was only a small force hiding here.
What was going on?
As Lancelot thought this over, the vox channel finally rang with a few intermittent voices.
Communication from the direction of the fleet command center had finally been restored.
“All units, respond if you receive this.
All units, respond if you receive this!
This is the ship’s command center! The source of this chapter is novelping.com.
I am the First Officer.
The command center has been brought under control, but the captain has given his loyalty to the Emperor after an assassination.
The ship’s power systems are currently paralyzed.
I need soldiers and Adeptus Mechanicus personnel to proceed to the power systems for repairs!”
A message came through the vox channel.
After the Death Korps of Krieg officer began communicating with him, Lancelot listened carefully.
Once he determined that the other party was indeed loyalist, he personally spoke to him.
“Report the current situation, mortal.”
A special vox source entered the channel.
The identifying mark belonging to an Astartes instantly lifted everyone’s spirits.
“Lord Brother?!
Thank the Emperor.
No wonder the Ork offensive has weakened!”
The delighted voices of the officers came through the vox channel.
Although the Astartes identifier that appeared in the cogitator system was abnormally ancient and seemed completely unable to match any existing Chapter authentication, based on the pattern of the linked vox and the previous report from the Death Korps of Krieg, the one who had appeared here was a loyal Dark Angel.
In an instant, everyone aboard this ship seemed to have found their backbone.
In this dark 40K, people believed in the God-Emperor.
As an Angel of the Emperor, Lancelot’s appearance was like a devout believer seeing an angel from a church relief descend in person to aid them in battle.
A large amount of information also began to pass through the newly restored vox channel into Lancelot’s ears.
In simple terms, the information said that the previously disconnected bridge command center had gone dark because of an internal rebellion.
One First Officer had suddenly brought xenos with him and killed the captain, leading a four-armed xenos force in an attempt to seize control of the warship.
But because the Ork offensive suddenly changed direction, the rebellion had now been suppressed, and the loyalists had retaken control.
Thinking about it this way, it was probably the work of the Genestealers.
But attempting to seize power at this critical juncture, while the ship was being attacked by Orks, clearly meant the situation was extremely bad.
Through the vox channel, Lancelot learned that the most serious problem currently facing this Cobra-class destroyer was that its power systems had suffered certain failures.
And if a human vessel was unable to move in Ork territory, then for those warlike Orks, what this ship’s final fate would be went without saying.
Perhaps the chicken thieves, whose core instinct was continuation, had launched their rebellion in order to seize escape pod berths?
A trace of unease surfaced in Lancelot’s heart.
In Ork territory, for a ship that had lost power, the only hope of survival was assistance from other human fleets.
But would friendly reinforcements appear? This chapter was taken from g.com without permission.
Lancelot felt the possibility was slim.
Even if this warship had already sent an astropathic distress call outward, their current location was far too special, or rather, far too dangerous.
If the ship carried something that absolutely had to be rescued, that would be one thing.
But Lancelot had already learned from the Death Korps company Commissar that this ship was nothing more than an ordinary vessel.
The most valuable thing was the ship itself.
But once the ship itself was damaged, the tens of thousands of mortals aboard instead became a burden.
Mortals were far too cheap to the Imperium as it was now.
Unless he had this ship’s astropath broadcast his identity as a Fallen Angel outward right now.
In that case, he could attract those Dark Angels at once and make them rush over in support without regard for anything else.
Of course, his own situation might become somewhat dangerous by then.
He could only say this proposal needed to be placed further down the list for consideration…
Lancelot advanced rapidly toward the bridge.
Even while swinging his sword with stormlike speed, his superhuman brain kept thinking of ways to break the situation.
However, in Lancelot’s thinking, he had never held any expectations for the bloated and rotten Imperium of the present age.
In other words, if they wanted to save themselves now, they could only pray that the tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus could repair this ship and ensure that it would not suffer attacks from other Orks during the repair process.
That possibility was even smaller.
Not nonexistent, but mainly dependent on the level of the Adeptus Mechanicus personnel aboard this ship… Yet if the situation truly became critical, then he could only place his hopes on the Dark Angels.
Lancelot exhaled a breath of stale air.
But at that moment, the First Officer’s cry of surprise came through the vox channel.
“Lord Brother!
We have received a new message!
A nearby Astartes Chapter has responded to our request for aid!”
“What?!”
After hearing this news, Lancelot found it unbelievable.
But in the next instant, he felt the hairs on his body stand on end.
It can’t be a Dark Angels fleet, can it?
Could those people have already locked onto me the moment I transmigrated here?
Such thoughts flashed through his mind like lightning, but Lancelot still wanted to confirm exactly who the other party was.
“Their affiliation?”
“They call themselves the Lamenters Chapter!”
