A chill ran through him.
That was Levi’s first sensation after his soul transmigrated to another world.
After taking a moment to steady himself and confirming that his surroundings were temporarily safe, he made no move at all, not even opening his eyes.
As a scout and an infiltrator from the wizard world, the best thing he could do was follow the guidelines for wizards exploring other worlds: wait quietly for this body’s memories to awaken, understand the laws by which this world operated, and only then take action.
Otherwise, if this world’s rules were drastically different, one wrong step could lead to utter destruction.
Levi had already confirmed that he was lying inside a cold, damp cave.
Beneath him was an icy stone slab, and a biting chill ran up his spine and spread through his whole body.
At the tip of his nose lingered the smell of damp mildew and dust.
At the same time, he also picked out a sickly sweet scent drifting through the air from all directions.
His nose twitched.
With the knowledge of a wizard apprentice, he quickly determined that it was human blood—and it was very fresh, as if it had only just spurted out.
Even so, he still did not move.
Something had definitely happened here.
Most likely, someone had died.
Otherwise, he would not have transmigrated into this corpse.
Having already transmigrated twice, his mental fortitude at this moment was exceptionally strong.
After all, this was not the first time his soul had entered a stranger’s corpse.
The first time, he had transmigrated into a wizard world where sorcery was highly developed and had already begun annexing many planes.
He had become a wizard apprentice with the exact same name as his own.
At first, he thought he might become a legendary wizard, immortal and devoted to exploring the mysteries of the universe.
Yet the very next day, fate played a cruel joke on him.
His mentor, having fallen into a financial crisis from developing a new plane, sold his wizard tower to the Myriad Realms Nexus.
As part of the wizard tower’s assets, Levi was naturally thrown in as a free bonus and handed over to the Myriad Realms Nexus.
Afterward, the Nexus’s talent array judged that his wizard talent was extremely poor and that he was unfit even for the simple cleaning and maintenance work of a wizard tower.
So the Myriad Realms Nexus directly implanted an Infiltrator System into him.
Then, the Nexus threw him into a new world that the wizard world had not yet explored, so that he could scout out a new plane for them to invade.
That plane was the very world Levi had now transmigrated into.
Just as he was inwardly complaining about how dark the wizard world was, a crunching sound suddenly reached his ears, like bones being chewed.
And the sound was getting closer, accompanied by rhythmic footsteps.
It was like a savage beast approaching Levi while devouring flesh and blood.
Cold sweat instantly broke out on Levi’s forehead.
He had to act now.
If he waited until he fully received this body’s memories before acting, he would truly be finished.
He abruptly opened his eyes, propped himself up with both hands, and was just about to take out a life-saving spell scroll from the Infiltrator System.
Then a violent headache struck him, and a torrent of savage information rushed into his brain.
Levi, twenty-two years old, a resident of Tizca, the capital of Prospero, a scholar of the Pyrae, inheritor of Magnus’s psychic knowledge and the tenfold mental discipline system…
He understood.
This time, he had transmigrated into the infamous “cesspit” world from his first life—the Warhammer universe—and had become a fire-aspected psychic scholar under Magnus.
And the unlucky man he had transmigrated into this time was also named Levi.
Now possessing the original body’s memories, Levi stared blankly at the figure he had previously mistaken for a beast.
That figure was a dazzling source of ghostly blue light.
The eerie blue glow it gave off dispelled the darkness of the cave and illuminated Levi’s uncertain expression.
At the core of that light source was a large wildcat formed from ghostly blue flame.
Levi knew clearly that this was the original body’s tutelary: a lynx wreathed in Warp fire.
A tutelary was an important part of Magnus’s psychic system.
It could amplify the host’s psychic strength, and the host could also use the tutelary’s vision as an additional means of reconnaissance.
Within this body’s memories, Levi found the words once spoken by Khalophis, the chief magister of the Pyrae, who had taught him this secret art.
A tutelary was, in essence, a fragment of the Primordial Creator from the Great Ocean—also known as the Warp—shaped by the host’s own psychic will into a Warp-born creation.
But Levi, as a seasoned armchair Warhammer fan in his previous life, knew very well that tutelaries were actually daemons in disguise, servants of Tzeentch, one of the four Chaos Gods.
At this moment, the tutelary lynx was still moving forward in large strides, carrying its earlier momentum as it chewed on unpalatable bone fragments in its mouth.
When it saw Levi, who had already died, suddenly prop himself upright like a reanimated corpse, a trace of unconcealed shock appeared on its fluffy face made of dark blue flame.
It was as if it were saying: Wasn’t Levi dead?
How is he alive again?
And had Levi seen it devouring flesh and blood, thereby guessing that the tutelary was no benevolent thing?
The lynx’s two pigeon-egg-sized eyes suddenly flared with scorching ghostly blue fire and fixed themselves on its nominal master before it.
Its face revealed the savagery of a hunting feline, and the flame-made fur all over its body abruptly stood on end like that of a startled cat.
Its killing intent spread, echoing through the cramped cave until even the air grew heavy.
At that moment, Levi struggled to sit up; hunched over, he reached up to rub his throbbing temples as if he had not noticed his pet’s hunting posture at all.
His voice was hoarse, and the exhaustion in it was impossible to hide.
“Nagual, my tutelary, why did you come out?”
As soon as the words left his mouth, he paused, took his fingers away from his forehead, then pointed at the complicated formation beneath his feet formed from crimson blood.
“There seems to be a problem with the blood array I constructed.
I need to rest for a while.
Don’t disturb me.”
After saying that, he staggered toward a stone bench not far away, coughing as he slowly walked, as if he had suffered serious backlash from the blood formation.
He seemed oblivious to the palpable killing intent within the cave.
As though the cave were too dark for him to have noticed his pet chewing bones.
And as though he had not seen the blood still dripping from the corner of its mouth, splashing fine droplets into the dust on the ground.
The daemon lynx tilted its head and carefully observed Levi.
Seeing that Levi’s expression and movements did not seem fake, it relaxed, licked the flaming fur on its paw, then gracefully turned around and prepared to leave.
However, the instant it turned around, man and beast moved at the same time.
Levi whipped around and raised a hand, sending out a golden fireball.
At the same moment, the daemon lynx also turned back and spat out a stream of blue Warp fire.
Boom!
The golden and blue flames collided violently in midair, turning into a furious blast of energy that kicked up dust and shattered stone across the ground.
In the instant the smoke and dust billowed out, a silver-gray spell scroll abruptly unfurled at the center of the explosion.
A pitch-black shadow spike, thin as a needle, shot out from the center of the scroll and struck toward the daemon lynx.
In the next instant, a shrill howl came from the dust before Levi, sounding like a beast on the verge of death.
That was the real killing move.
The tension in Levi’s body finally loosened, but he did not extinguish the psychic fireball in his hand.
Seeing is believing; hearing is deceiving.
After waiting a moment, the dust filling the air gradually dispersed.
Only then did Levi truly relax.
Not far away, the daemon lynx had been pinned firmly to the wall by that black spike.
Its terrified eyes stared at Levi in front of it, and it let out even more panicked shrieks.
At the same time, a thought passed into Levi’s mind through the tutelary contract.
You’re not him.
Who exactly are you?
Levi could never have done this!
Let me go, and I’ll keep your secret!
Levi did not respond.
Not a single word from a Warp daemon could be trusted, much less one of Tzeentch’s servants.
He directly severed the mental link.
Only now did he extinguish the flame in his hand and walk forward at an easy pace, but there was no joy of victory over a powerful enemy on his face.
He stared fixedly at the black spike, and his heart ached.
That attack had come from a first-circle spell scroll, Spear of Shadow.
It really was powerful, enough to rival the full-force strike of a formal wizard, but it was also extremely expensive.
Levi had spent all of this wizard apprentice body’s savings to buy that life-saving scroll, and he had not expected to use it the moment he arrived in this world.
In truth, Levi knew that he might also have been able to defeat the daemon lynx by relying on the powerful psychic abilities of this body, combined with the knowledge of a wizard apprentice.
But Levi had enough self-awareness to know that while his wizard apprentice knowledge was indeed useful and could improve his psychic techniques and strengthen the power of his psychic fireballs, he still remembered that the Myriad Realms Nexus had judged his wizard talent to be extremely poor.
This seemingly workable tactic was very likely just an illusion.
Besides, if he had a ready-made trump card and did not use it, that would make him an utter fool.
And anyway, the cost was not unrecoverable.
The very next moment, Levi mentally called upon the Infiltrator System and plan to put the daemon lynx before him up for sale.
