“I actually do.”

Xiang Ge glanced around to make sure no one was nearby, then pulled out a soccer-ball-sized potato from her sack.

Originally, she had planned to keep the two low-radiation potatoes for herself. But now that she had become a Purifier, there was no need.Full novel: Wasteland Queen: I Can Purify the Entire World — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

After all, the biggest advantage of low-radiation food was that it didn’t increase radiation levels and could even lessen the damage radiation caused to the body. As for taste, food tasted pretty much the same whether it contained radiation or not.

“You actually have potatoes!”

Wu Mei cried out in surprise.

But she immediately covered her mouth and looked around. Seeing that no one had noticed, she grabbed both Xiang Ge and the potato and hurried into the building beside them.

There weren’t many buildings in the Underground City. Anyone who owned one here represented a force to be reckoned with.

Xiang Ge allowed herself to be led inside.

Before approaching Wu Mei, she had already used her mental power to investigate the building. It was completely empty, with no ambushes hidden inside.

Given her current strength, Xiang Ge wasn’t overly worried about her safety.

“This potato is low-radiation?”

Inside the room, Wu Mei examined the potato carefully and prepared to scan it with her wrist device.

“This one isn’t. Let me get the right one.”

The first potato had been chosen at random. This time, Xiang Ge opened the sack properly and took out the two potatoes she had specially marked earlier.

“You have two of them?!”

Wu Mei shouted again in shock.

“Uh… what? You only want one? That’s fine, I can—”

Thinking that Wu Mei found two too many, Xiang Ge started to put one away.

“No, no, no! I want both. Name your price.”

Wu Mei quickly stopped her and intercepted the potatoes.

Who wouldn’t want potatoes of this quality?

Especially low-radiation potatoes this large. With the right ingredients, a single potato could be turned into an entire banquet. These were genuine luxury goods in high demand.

The current client only needed one potato to fulfill the order. The other could be auctioned off among her regular wealthy customers.

Wu Mei had already planned out exactly where both potatoes would go.

And she was determined to obtain them.

Having already toured the Underground City, Xiang Ge had a rough understanding of food prices.

Even a medium-radiation potato could sell for twenty points.

Twenty points wasn’t cheap—it was enough to buy ten tubes of nutrient solution.

As for low-radiation plants, most people kept them for personal consumption. Very few were willing to sell them. After all, life was more important than points.

“I’d actually like to make a deal with Boss Wu. Do you have any channels for obtaining laser weapons?”

Xiang Ge hadn’t seen anyone selling laser weapons in the Underground City.

“Laser weapons? Do you know those aren’t things ordinary people can use?”

Wu Mei looked at her with surprise and renewed scrutiny.

“Of course.”

Xiang Ge offered no explanation.

The two women, nearly the same height, held each other’s gaze for several seconds.

In the end, Wu Mei looked away first.

“You’ve asked the right person. Laser weapons aren’t sold to the public in Morningstar Base. I do happen to have a way to get a laser sword, but it’ll cost two thousand points. These two potatoes are valuable, but they’re not worth that much.”

“Take these two low-radiation potatoes as a deposit. I’ll come back in a week to pick up the laser sword and pay the remaining balance.”

After thinking it over, Xiang Ge proposed a solution.

“Deal. I’ll value these two potatoes at five hundred points.”

“By the way, are you selling the rest of the potatoes in that sack? I buy everything.”

Wu Mei didn’t question whether Xiang Ge would actually be able to pay the remainder in a week.

Instead, she purchased all the remaining potatoes Xiang Ge wanted to sell at the market rate of twenty points each.

Xiang Ge had twenty-one potatoes in total.

She kept five for herself.

Of the remaining sixteen, two low-radiation potatoes were used as a deposit.

The other fourteen sold for a total of 280 points.

Wu Mei transferred the points immediately and even added Xiang Ge as a contact.

“If you get anything good in the future, remember me first.”

Wu Mei flashed her a flirtatious smile.

One trip to the Underground City had left Xiang Ge with a debt of fifteen hundred points.

It seemed she would need to work hard over the next week.

When Xiang Ge walked out of the building, she noticed that most of the small groups gathered outside had already dispersed.

These teams usually accepted missions from bosses like Wu Mei and completed them together.

There were also independent mercenaries who recruited teammates after accepting jobs.

Just as Xiang Ge was considering whether she should ask her creditor if there were any high-paying missions involving mutant beasts, a pale, slender young man approached her.

“Hello, my name is Shen Cheng. Our team is short one member. Would you like to join us?”

Shen Cheng had noticed Xiang Ge long ago while she was wandering around the mercenary gathering area.

When she entered Boss Wu’s building, she had been carrying a large sack. When she came out, it was gone.

Clearly, she had completed some sort of transaction.

Anyone capable of doing business with the most influential boss in the Underground City had to possess some special ability.

“What mission has your team accepted?”

Xiang Ge wasn’t familiar with how missions worked in the Underground City, nor did she know much about the wilderness outside the base.

If the team seemed suitable, she wouldn’t mind joining a group operation first.

“A fruit-harvesting mission. The destination is a wild orchard.”

“Our team has a good atmosphere, rewards are distributed according to contribution, and the captain is easy to get along with. It’s a great team to join.”

Harvesting low-radiation fruit…

To be honest, Xiang Ge wasn’t particularly interested in low-radiation fruit right now.

What she really wanted was to earn points and purification points at the same time.

“Although there are a lot of mutant beasts in that orchard, it’s located in a low-radiation zone, so the yield of low-radiation fruit is very high.”

“High risk, high reward. Besides, missions like this require a full team to accept, and there aren’t many people left around here.”

Seeing her lack of enthusiasm, Shen Cheng hurriedly added.

If his teammate Xiao Yi hadn’t suddenly left for another team, he wouldn’t have been forced into recruiting strangers.

Tomorrow’s mission was extremely important to him.

He had to gather enough people to accept it.

Shen Cheng continued talking anxiously, but Xiang Ge only heard the first half of what he said.

A lot of mutant beasts.

“I’ll join!”

Without the slightest hesitation, Xiang Ge agreed immediately.

They could harvest fruit for points, and there were plenty of mutant beasts to earn purification points from.

This was practically her dream job.

“So where’s the team? When do we leave? Right now? I’m ready.”

Xiang Ge grabbed Shen Cheng’s hand and started pulling him along.

She was genuinely in a hurry—desperate for both points and purification points.

“Let go.”

The man standing beside Shen Cheng immediately spoke up, his expression stern.

If Xiang Ge didn’t release him, he looked ready to take action.

“Ye Zheng, it’s fine.”

Shen Cheng waved his hand.

He hadn’t expected his new teammate’s attitude to change so quickly—or to be so enthusiastic.

Still, it meant their interests aligned perfectly.

With the mission now secured, no one was happier than he was.
