“Eli! How many times have I reminded you that you have to go home? You’re already starting your first semester, and you haven’t been back since you had your break!”

“Mom, you already know that I had been working part-time during the break, so I didn’t have time to go home.”

“You don’t even need a part-time job at all! You’re receiving a lot of allowance from the both of us. I know you have plenty of extra money to buy whatever you want.”Full novel: We Tried Dodging Our Marriage, Now We’re Solving Irregularities (BL) — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“I’m already an adult, so of course I also wanted to try earning my own money,” Eli explained.

“Don’t tell me such cr*p. Don’t I still know you? I know you won’t even make a move as long as you have enough. Or should I tell your dad so that we could both freeze all your cards? Then you’ll really need to look for part-time jobs.”

“Mom, don’t make such a joke. I know you love me the most, so please don’t even think of freezing my cards,” Eli immediately said pleasingly.

His mother really knew him well, so she knew that he had certainly only worked for a few days, even though he claimed he had been working a part-time job for the whole break.

When he became an adult last year, he had been lazy and didn’t open his own bank accounts, as he hadn’t thought it was necessary.

But now, it seemed that he really needed to make his own independent account to move his money away from the joint accounts he had used while he was still a minor.

“I know you just don’t want to come back, but you and Ren must get married this year. You guys have already delayed your marriage for a year. I already talked about it with your aunt, and she has already agreed that as soon as both you and Ren come back, you guys can get married immediately.”

“Mom, Ren and I don’t have those kinds of feelings for each other, so why don’t we just cancel the marriage talks?” Eli tried to reason with his mother again.

“You guys grew up with each other since you were toddlers.

The two of you have been friends since childhood and were engaged very early, so you guys are practically what they call childhood sweethearts.

Even if you really don’t have feelings for each other right now, with your friendship as a foundation, you’ll develop feelings for each other after some time,” Eli’s mom said strongly, but then sighed and added, “And don’t you guys know the reason for your marriage?

Eli, I don’t want to see you guys nearly die because of so many accidents.

I don’t want to send my son to his death when there’s clearly a solution.

Eli…”

“Mom! Someone’s calling me outside! It seems that we need to go already. You can call me again later. Bye, mom!” Eli immediately said and then ended the call.

As soon as Eli ended the call, he immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

His mother’s mood had gone from her tyrannical mode to her sentimental mode again, so he had to end the call as he really couldn’t deal with it easily.

He preferred to have his lively mother even in her tyrannical mode of nagging rather than her sentimental mode full of worries about him.

He hadn’t gone home since his eighteenth birthday because he knew that his parents would certainly grab him immediately, along with his so-called childhood friend, Ren, to get their marriage certificate.

He had also avoided meeting his parents even when they tried to visit where he was studying.

He and Ren had suddenly been struck with extreme unluckiness when they were children and had suffered a lot of accidents, nearly dying a few times because of it.

Because of such misfortune, both of them had nearly died in falling debris accidents, a stampede accident, and the worst were several car accidents, one of which had caused them to be hospitalized for a long time.

Eli really didn’t know why they had suddenly become so unlucky.

He only knew that when he was seven years old, he and Ren were arguing again in a children’s park, but he didn’t know what happened afterward as he had no memory of it.

He only knew that their parents found them unconscious at the side of the park, and after waking up, their extreme misfortune began.

Their parents had been very worried about their situation and went looking for ways to counter their unluckiness, becoming even more anxious to find solutions after the boys nearly died and were hospitalized for so long.

They tried a lot of things recommended by different people from various religions and other beliefs to remove bad luck.

He and Ren had cooperated with their parents because they didn’t want to see them full of worry and stress; however, none of the things they tried worked at all.

Their situation only became better when a fortuneteller told their parents that they should just arrange for their children to be married to each other to solve their problems, as their fates were deeply intertwined and something was interfering with them—which was why both of them had death-threatening misfortunes.

Their parents were desperate enough to try anything that might work, but since they were still young, they settled on an engagement first.

The fortuneteller told them that it would certainly lessen their unluckiness, but they should get married as soon as both of them were adults; if not, the things that had been suppressed because of their engagement might cause an even bigger misfortune for the both of them.

After they became engaged, their situation indeed improved, and even though they were still unlucky, it wasn’t death-threatening unluckiness any longer.

So, when he became an adult, their parents urged them to get married, but he was always looking for ways not to go home and kept delaying it, as he didn’t believe in the fortuneteller at all.
