Billy, Coyote, and Maverick looked in disbelief as nearly all the town's population lay dead in the streets with gunshot wounds. Women, children, ministers, and local townsmen. Billy stood silently in anger. Tears began dripping down his eyes.

"As a Sheriff, this is one of the most terrible things I've ever seen in my career," said Maverick.

"When I find the person responsible for this, they're going to wish they didn't do this. There will be a price to pay for this, and if I don't find the person that did this and bring them to justice for the sake of these townsmen, I will turn in my badge. If there's one thing I'm going to do as Marshal, it's that," said Billy.Full novel: West Quest — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

"Calm down, Billy. Too much anger doesn't make you think fully clearly and gets in the way of your job. You are a Christian, right? It's commanded not to be bitter and unforgiving," said Maverick.

Maverick was right. The Bible did teach forgiveness. Billy was angry and had a difficult time, but he knew it was the right thing. If God forgives our sins, we have to forgive others' sins. He remembered when Jesus, God in the flesh, prayed for God to forgive those who crucified Him. If Jesus forgave, he knew it was his responsibility. He was tempted to be bitter, but he forgave, but he was angry and he wanted to bring justice.

"I might forgive them, but I still stand on what I said earlier. I am going to find this psychopath and bring him to justice and he will not get away with this. The Bible says God hates hands that shed innocent blood and God will bring a greater vengeance on this killer than what I can ever give if he doesn't repent. I hope that doesn't happen," said Billy.

"They killed these civilians right under our noses and we're Marshals. It's our duty to protect them and we failed them," said Billy.

"You want to know why I'm not a Christian? Because I see things like this and I don't understand how a God can allow things like this to happen," said Coyote.

"Suffering doesn't mean God doesn't exist. Suffering exists because man has free will. God created the world perfect. Man corrupted it. Jesus also suffered. He understands. One day God will restore the world back to the way it was," said Billy.

"Come here," said a voice. They all looked over and saw one of the civilians that were shot and still alive, but barely. It was an older man. Billy walked up to him.

"Who did this to you?" Billy asked.

"It was a group of them. They were a gang of outlaws. Their leader was a man with long black hair wearing a black suit and a black cowboy hat. They looked like a gang of notorious outlaw sadists known as the Dark Riders. They're a group of serial killers that travel around towns killing people for amusement. Their leader is Ringo. A powerful outlaw," said the civilian.

"I've heard of them before. They usually kill in the towns of eastern Westville County near this area. They shouldn't be far. Don't just stand there. Get this man some medical attention and go investigate the cities," said Maverick.

"Do you mind if I take care of this myself?" said Billy, as the man was escorted to a nearby hospital.

"Why do you want to do this alone?" asked Maverick.

"It's just that on this situation, I feel like I need to take care of this myself. Besides, aren't there thieves on the loose?" Billy asked.

"Good point. Suit yourself. Me and Coyote will try to find the thieves. You take care of Ringo, but don't do anything reckless or impulsive," said Maverick.

Billy began traveling across towns, showing local wanted posters of Ringo and his gang of outlaws.

"Did you see anyone that looked like this?" Billy asked. Most said no.

Finally, he found a nearby town where someone did.

"I saw a man like that while I was in a market the other day in the town of Bullseye the other day. Three hours later, the owner of the store was found dead, shot to death," said an old woman.

A group of friends were walking around town at night in Bullseye when suddenly Ringo and a group of men appeared and surrounded them. They pulled out their guns and began to shoot and killed several of them. Then a young blonde woman looked in fear and terror, crying in tears.

"Please don't hurt me. Do you want money? Take anything you want," she said.

"There's nothing I want, dear," said Ringo as he grabbed ahold of her. "I just get this joy, this ecstasy, out of seeing the fear in victims before they die. It's like deer in hunting season," said Ringo as he shoved her to the ground.

"Men, kill her," said Ringo.

They aimed their guns and shot, but suddenly someone emerged and picked her up out of the way. It was Billy. His face was a face of pure intensity and anger as he stared at the gunmen with a stare of hawkeyes.

"Get out of here," he told the lady. The gunmen chased her, but before they could, Billy punched them and kicked them and knocked them out. He sent one of them crashing through a wall. They kept shooting, but Billy dodged and took a rope and tied it around one of their legs and threw him into another man. They charged at him, but he powered up and caused them to go crashing through buildings with a massive surge of energy. The whole town began shaking from the power that Billy was unleashing. Wind was rushing everywhere.

Ringo looked in astonishment.

"That's some pretty impressive skills and power you got there, boy. I love killing strong Marshals. Weak ones don't interest me," said Ringo.

Billy hit Ringo several times with punches and kicks. Ringo went crashing through several buildings but got back up, bruised and cut.

"Why would you do something like that? Why would you kill all those townsmen? Women and children. What did they ever do to you to do something like that? You're going to answer to God for that bloodshed if you don't repent of your deeds," said Billy.

"Hahahaha!" said Ringo with a sinister laugh. "I don't regret it. I would do it all over again. They were like cattle sent to the slaughter and I enjoyed every minute of it," said Ringo.

Billy kept hitting him, but Ringo kept getting up. Then Ringo released his energy, with his power matching Billy's. They engaged in hand-to-hand combat and threw several blasts at each other. Ringo pulled out a sword and swung but missed. Then he threw several spikes out of his hands at Billy but missed. He hit Billy several times and kicked him straight through a structure. Then he threw his signature blast at him called the Doom Wave. Smoke went all over the place.

Billy appeared and hit Ringo several times and hit him with a blast, but Ringo still got back up. Billy turned his gun into a stick and threw it at him, but he missed. Ringo took out his gun and shot Billy several times with bullets. Then he sent out an energy blast out of his gun at Billy.

Billy lay on the ground. Ringo came up to Billy and kept kicking him and punching him.

"You're just like all those other worthless cattle in my slaughterhouse," said Ringo. He threw another punch, but Billy held it. Then suddenly Billy began glowing and his power began to surge.

"He shouldn't even be able to move. His body reacts to life or death situations, which is growing his power. His anger seems to be fueling his power system as well," Ringo thought.

Billy landed several more attacks on him. Then he finally took out his gun and fired one last blast at him. Ringo lay on the ground, unable to move.

"Go ahead. Kill me. Finish me. Get your vengeance, Christian. Pull the trigger," said Ringo.

Billy was tempted. He was angry at the murders. He aimed it at him. He thought long and hard, but he threw the gun on the ground and put him in handcuffs.

"No. I won't do it. I have no need to kill someone who is already down and can't fight back. It's not my job to avenge and kill. It's my job to bring justice. Justice is not the same as revenge. God is the one you answer to. It's not in my hands. I forgive you, but I'm taking you to prison," said Billy.
