After a short afternoon nap, Pei Xi woke to Si Ruohan telling her that his parents already knew everything—about their marriage registration and her pregnancy.
Pei Xi didn’t mind at all. These were Si Ruohan’s parents, and keeping it from them had felt a bit wrong. In a couple of months, when her belly grew, everyone would know anyway. Now, the only ones concerned were truly hers. She was, after all, the beneficiary.
“Wait—why didn’t you tell me sooner? Your dad is the famous actor Si Yu’an! He’s my favorite! And your mom, Su Qimeng—she’s a diva! I love her songs. This morning I saw them and thought they were just lookalikes!”
Pei Xi felt over the moon. Her in-laws were her favorite celebrities!
Si Ruohan ruffled her hair:
“Now you know, don’t you? You’ll see your idols often. Lucky, right?”
Pei Xi nodded vigorously:
“Absolutely! So happy! But… why didn’t you enter the entertainment industry yourself?”
With such perfect conditions—parents in the industry, connections, resources—it seemed like a smooth path. And Si Ruohan was handsome too; he would surely have made it big.
Si Ruohan chuckled:
“You think it’s that easy? Everyone wants in. I’m doing fine where I am. If I joined, would you even have met me?”
True—celebrities had paparazzi, bodyguards, and rarely stayed anywhere normal. Pei Xi realized he was right. If he were in showbiz, their paths probably wouldn’t have crossed.
Thinking about the man she had met that day, she concluded: if she had the choice, she would still pick Si Ruohan. Handsome, wealthy, and kind—what could she complain about?
“But your parents… do they think I’m a bad girl, using the pregnancy to cling to you?”
She worried they might see her as taking advantage.
Si Ruohan kissed her firmly on the cheek:
“Relax. My parents are thrilled. They’re overjoyed about becoming grandparents. Right now, they’re downstairs discussing what gifts to give you. When you go down, remember to change the way you address them—they’re giving a generous ‘new daughter-in-law’ gift.”
Pei Xi asked again, half-doubtful:
“They really aren’t angry?”
Si Ruohan held her hand tightly:
“Nope. Don’t believe me? Get up and see for yourself.”
Sure enough, when her new mother-in-law presented her with a set of precious jewelry, and her new father-in-law handed her several properties, Pei Xi was stunned.
She kept retreating, refusing politely:
“These… are too valuable. I can’t accept them.”
Even selling herself couldn’t get this much. She felt she had already received plenty from Si Ruohan; his parents’ gifts were unnecessary. It wasn’t coquettishness—she genuinely didn’t dare take them.
“The gifts from Ah Han are already enough. You should keep these. If I take them, I won’t sleep well; I’ll feel unsafe wherever I put them.”
Her words made Si Father and Si Mother smile. How could a child ever think this much was too much?
Si Father handed the gifts to Si Ruohan:
“Let Ah Han hold them for now—he has a safe.”
Si Mother did the same:
“Yes, once Ah Han gets a proper safe, you can take them yourself. Xiao Xi, remember, don’t dislike having money. Money gives freedom—allows you to do many things without asking anyone for help.”
Pei Xi glanced at Si Ruohan for help, hoping he’d smooth things over.
He stacked the gifts neatly and signaled her:
“Xiao Xi, thank your parents properly—they’re giving these as meeting gifts for their daughter-in-law.”
Si Mother nodded, smiling, urging her to do so.
Pei Xi, seeing her in-laws’ expectant faces, called out politely:
“Dad, Mom.”
Both parents brightened. Si Mother held her hand:
“Xiao Xi, in a few days, I’ll take you shopping. We’ll get you lots of beautiful clothes—dress up, you’re so pretty!”
She glanced at Pei Xi’s belly:
“I’ll also send you pregnancy-safe cosmetics. Nothing will harm the baby.”
That evening, dinner at Si Grandma’s continued, and Si Ruohan officially shared the news of their marriage and pregnancy with everyone. The family was overjoyed.
Si Grandpa, hearing about a great-grandchild, laughed so hard his beard trembled. Seeing his two granddaughters, he poked them teasingly:
“You two are still single? Your brother is married with a child—when will you marry? Will you stay home as old maids?”
Si Grandpa was genuinely anxious. Both granddaughters were in their thirties, talented and beautiful—but still unmarried. Answering questions about boyfriends was embarrassing.
Si Ruoxuan and Si Ruoyin exchanged glances but quietly continued eating.
Finding the right son-in-law isn’t like picking cabbage; true compatibility is rare. Most boys around their age, even if unmarried, already had complicated pasts. Those with lesser family backgrounds often had ulterior motives, chasing the family rather than genuine affection. Such marriages, they didn’t want.
Having seen the love within their family, they also felt outside men could never compare—Si family men were famously devoted, unlike other men whose loyalty might be questionable.
That evening, with Pei Xi officially recognized as Si Ruohan’s wife, she also received more welcoming gifts from other family members.
Seeing her warmly accepted, Pei Xi’s heart felt full. She finally had a family.
