Pei Xi wondered if she had bought counterfeit pills.

Also, her period hadn’t come last month. Pei Xi groaned in frustration; she’d been so busy these past few days that she’d completely forgotten her period was late.

After listening to the doctor’s explanation, Pei Xi learned that birth control pills weren’t 100% effective at preventing pregnancy. If taken incorrectly or too late, pregnancy was still possible.Full novel: What Should I Do If I Have the Second Male Lead’s Child? — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Pei Xi cautiously asked,

“Doctor, I’ve taken birth control pills before, and now I’m pregnant. Will the pills affect the baby?”

Weren’t birth control pills supposed to contain hormones? She’d taken them; they shouldn’t be bad for the baby, right?

Besides, Pei Xi wasn’t sure if she wanted to keep the baby.

The doctor said, “No, the hormones in emergency contraceptive pills (such as levonorgestrel) generally do not increase the risk of birth defects, so you can rest assured. If you become pregnant after using emergency contraception, you don’t need to terminate the pregnancy because of the medication itself; you just need to rule out an ectopic pregnancy. And in your case, it’s clearly intrauterine. If you want to keep it, you can.”

The doctor said this last because she noticed Pei Xi seemed hesitant, wanting the baby but not quite.

If she really wanted it, she would be overjoyed to hear she was pregnant.

But this girl, knowing she was pregnant, wasn’t happy; she seemed troubled.

Seeing how young she was, the doctor thought she probably got pregnant unexpectedly after having premarital sex. Or maybe she broke up with her boyfriend and didn’t want the baby.

Sigh, some people can’t conceive even if they want to, while others get pregnant on their first try—it’s really hard to say!

The doctor finally reminded Pei Xi that if she didn’t want the child, the best time for surgery was before the baby was three months along.

Also, an abortion requires examination to see if her body is suitable for the procedure. The doctor advised Pei Xi to decide as soon as possible.

Pei Xi truly didn’t know whether she should keep the baby. She had previously said she definitely wouldn’t be able to raise it. But now, hearing the little thing inside her, the feeling was complex.

This was a family member, sharing her blood from two lifetimes, a blood relative!

Pei Xi knew she couldn’t make a decision immediately, but she wanted to get the test done.

That way, if she changed her mind, she could just come to the hospital for surgery.

However, fate seemed to have made the decision for Pei Xi.

After the test, the doctor told her:

“Ms. Pei, the examination revealed that your uterine wall is somewhat thin. Forcibly terminating the pregnancy could lead to future fertility problems, potentially disqualifying you from motherhood. Therefore, I recommend that you keep the baby.” (This is just an excuse the author made up; please don’t take it too seriously.)

Well, since fate had already made the decision for her, Pei Xi could only thank the doctor and leave the hospital.

Back home, sitting on the sofa, Pei Xi touched her still flat stomach.

She was filled with emotion.

Good heavens, it was unbelievable; there was a little life inside her!

Pei Xi made up her mind. Since she couldn’t abort, she would have to give birth!

And this child wasn’t just hers; she needed to find the father to take some responsibility.

She didn’t expect him to take full responsibility—what if he had a partner? She just hoped he could help share some of the burden of raising the child.

Simply put, some child support would be enough.

Even though she had never raised a child before, she knew how difficult it was.

The baby needed monthly checkups and nutritious food—all of which cost money.

And after the baby was born, she needed a postpartum nanny; otherwise, how could she take care of the child alone? This was her first time being a mother; what experience did she have?

At least until the child was two years old, she couldn’t manage alone.

She knew from her time at the orphanage that babies a few months old, or even a little over a year old, were the most difficult to care for. A little cold or hot weather, and they’d get sick in no time.

Therefore, a nanny would need to be hired long-term, and those weren’t cheap.

This is just the beginning. When the child starts school, it will cost even more money; kindergartens aren’t cheap these days!

She doesn’t know if she can afford a public kindergarten. Private schools are really expensive, so she can’t afford to raise the child alone.

Since that man can book a room at that hotel, he must have some money. Hopefully, he’s not broke.

Even if he can’t share half, he should at least contribute some. He’s an adult; he should have a job. Sending her some money every month wouldn’t be unreasonable!

Sigh, where’s that piece of paper? Where did she put it?

Pei Xi remembered the note with the phone number and started searching. She finally found it in the corner of her bag.

Pei Xi smiled as she looked at the paper, admiring the flamboyant handwriting. She was glad she hadn’t thrown it away; otherwise, where would she find the person now?

But she was tired today and didn’t want to bother anymore. She could only contact them tomorrow.

In the morning, Si Ruohan arrived at the company and had just taken a sip of the coffee his assistant had made for him when his phone rang.

Looking at the unfamiliar number, Si Ruohan hesitated to answer. It was his private number, and he worried that his parents had given it to another girl, and then she would harass him.

But very few people knew his private number, and he was also worried it might be a friend calling. After thinking for a moment, he answered anyway.

Hearing the voice on the other end of the phone, Si Ruohan jumped up in surprise.

It was her!

Hearing the girl on the other end of the phone say she needed to talk to him and asked if he had time, Si Ruohan obviously didn’t have time right now; he had an important meeting later, but he could meet her at noon.

Pei Xi, knowing the girl had arranged to meet her at noon, didn’t immediately tell her about her pregnancy. These things were best discussed in person.

Noting down the restaurant she had chosen, Pei Xi hung up.

Si Ruohan smiled when he saw her hang up; good, she had contacted him!

Wanting to see Pei Xi as soon as possible, Si Ruohan quickly finished his meeting, gave his assistant a few instructions, and hurried to the elevator.

He wanted to see her quickly.

Pei Xi, also worried about being late, arrived early. Looking at the obviously expensive restaurant, Pei Xi hesitated to go in. Eating here wouldn’t be cheap; she wondered if she could afford it with the little money in her account.

Pei Xi thought that once she met him, she would have to make him find another place; she felt she couldn’t afford to eat here.

But what did the man look like that night? So much time had passed, Pei Xi couldn’t quite remember.

She’d been drunk that day, making her even more confused; she only knew he was very handsome. She wondered if she’d even be able to find him soon.

Pei Xi had just gotten out of the taxi when Si Ruohan saw her. Everyone was complaining about the heat, and surprisingly, this man was wearing a black mask.

Those familiar eyebrows and eyes—Si Ruohan knew this was the person he was looking for.

To confi  rm, Si Ruohan took out his phone and called the girl. Seeing her answer, Si Ruohan walked towards her.

When Pei Xi answered the phone, she also saw the man walking out beside her. Seeing his face, she remembered. He was the man from that night; this was the person she was looking for.

Seeing him in front of her, Pei Xi felt embarrassed. When she tried to speak, she realized she was still wearing a mask, so she reached out and took it off.

He’d already seen her that night; why wear it now? It was a bit impolite.

Si Ruohan watched Pei Xi’s actions with a smile, his smile deepening when he saw her delicate face.

Pei Xi knew his name, but she hadn’t even introduced herself yet!

“Mr. Si, right? Hello, my name is Pei Xi. I’m here to see you today, sorry to have troubled you.”

Seeing the girl in front of him extend her right hand, Si Ruohan smiled and shook it.

“Miss Pei, hello. I’m the one who should apologize for not coming to see you right away. I hope you don’t mind. Come on, the private room is booked.

Shall we go in and eat and chat?” Pei Xi wanted to suggest they go somewhere else, but looking at Si Ruohan’s attire, she figured he wouldn’t try to dine and dash, so she followed him inside.

After entering the private room and ordering, while waiting for the food to arrive, Si Ruohan apologized first.

“Miss Pei, I’m so sorry about that night. I was drugged, so I lost control. Because of work, I couldn’t wait for you to wake up immediately, which was my fault. I absolutely didn’t mean to shirk responsibility; I just really had something to deal with that day. I left my number hoping you would contact me after you woke up so I could have a chance to make it up to you. But I didn’t receive your call.”

Pei Xi tidied a stray hair behind her ear and said apologetically,

“This isn’t just your fault; I share some too. Actually, my room was next to yours that day; I went into the wrong room.”

Pei Xi was too embarrassed to admit that she had hugged him first; she couldn’t bring herself to say it.

“Well, what’s done is done. Let’s talk about something else now! I came to see you not because of that night.”

Both of them were at fault; what’s the use of apologizing? The most important thing now is to resolve the next issue!

Si Ruohan raised his hand to her, signaling her to continue.

Pei Xi looked at Si Ruohan and involuntarily bit her lip. Seeing her hesitation, Si Ruohan encouraged her,

“Don’t be afraid, just say what’s wrong! Do you need my help?”

Pei Xi took a deep breath, took out the report and ultrasound scan from her hospital visit yesterday from her bag, and pushed them in front of Si Ruohan.

“I’m pregnant, more than a month along. The doctor said my body doesn’t support an abortion, so I have to give birth.”

Si Ruohan looked at the report and ultrasound scan in front of her, her eyes fixed on the black mass on the ultrasound image.

Hearing Pei Xi’s words, Si Ruohan was secretly pleased and pressed on,

“So you came to me because you want me to take responsibility?”

Pei Xi nodded first, then shook her head:

“No, no, I didn’t want to bother you, but I’m worried I can’t raise a child alone. I came to you because I wanted you to help me share some of the expenses. Don’t worry, if you’re married or have a girlfriend, I definitely won’t be a burden to you. I really just want you to help me share some of the expenses, not to take full responsibility.”

Pei Xi then added weakly,

“I just graduated and haven’t found a job yet. I really can’t afford to raise a child alone!”

“Heh!”

After hearing Pei Xi’s words, Si Ruohan laughed, a very happy laugh.

“Don’t be nervous, I don’t blame you. I’m actually quite happy that you came to me and told me this news. I’m not married and don’t have a girlfriend right now, so what you’re worried about will definitely not happen.”

Si Ruohan leaned back in his chair, looking at Pei Xi:

“How about this! Since you’re carrying my child, let’s get married!”

“What?”

Pei Xi stared wide-eyed at Si Ruohan, pointing at herself.

“Married? Me and you?”

Si Ruohan nodded:

“Yes, that’s right. You’re short of money, but I’m not. And I will never let my child be an illegitimate child, so we can only get married.”

Si Ruohan said solemnly:

“You don’t want your child to grow up and ask you why Mom and Dad aren’t together, right? Therefore, the best solution now is for us to get married.”

Pei Xi knew this was the best solution, but it was too sudden! A whirlwind marriage! She didn’t even know him yet!

“This is a bit too sudden, isn’t it? We don’t even know each other…”

Si Ruohan interrupted her,

“Then let’s introduce ourselves later. Now, let’s eat.”

Hearing the knock on the door, Si Ruohan knew the waiter was coming to serve the food, so she temporarily stopped the conversation.

Seeing the food arrive, Pei Xi could only put her business aside for now.

She was pregnant and got hungry quickly, so she decided to eat first!
