“Bang!!”

A thunderous explosion echoed. On the mountain road, a white Emgrand GSE swerved to avoid a motorcycle that had suddenly appeared, crashing through the guardrail and flying off the twenty-meter-high cliff.

Xia Yuan, sitting in the back seat, hadn’t even registered what was happening before he felt a sudden weightlessness.Full novel: What’s It Like to Have a Goofy Vampire Wife? — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Immediately after, the car began to tumble down the hillside.

Duang!

The white car slammed violently into the low ground below, window glass and car parts scattering everywhere.

A small cluster of flames ignited on the chassis of the Emgrand GSE, and thick black smoke began to billow into the air. The front of the car was crushed and deformed; the driver had died on the spot.

Xia Yuan sat in the back, his brain reeling with vertigo. A massive ringing in his ears left him completely oblivious to the sounds around him. Only a warm, moist liquid crawled down his head.

His vision was a blur. Xia Yuan wiped his face with his hand, only then realizing his head was split open. Perhaps it wasn’t just his head; he had absolutely no sensation in his right foot.

If he hadn’t been in the back seat with his seatbelt fastened, Xia Yuan would likely be meeting the King of Hell by now. The pungent smoke made it difficult to breathe, and he had no strength left in his limbs.

Gasping for air, Xia Yuan used every ounce of his strength to raise his hand, intending to push the car door open. He pulled the handle twice before realizing the lock was broken.

“Heh…”

He closed his eyes in distress and let out two bitter, self-deprecating chuckles.

It seemed this was his fate, destined to die here…

As death approached, his heart actually grew calm. A cold sensation gradually crept over his entire body. Xia Yuan reviewed his life in his mind and reached one conclusion—

Dammit, I should have bought my own car.

Tap, tap.

Right then, the sound of a finger tapping on the car window rang out.

Xia Yuan forced his eyes open for a look, finding that it wasn’t a firefighter or someone in a white coat. Outside the window was a pale, exquisite face.

The girl had shoulder-length curly hair and a heart-shaped face with delicate features and full, well-defined lips. She was beautiful—that was Xia Yuan’s first impression.

Except for those eyes—the pupils, glowing with a faint red light, created a strange sense of dissonance.

“Wow.”

The girl’s eyes darted back and forth before she looked at Xia Yuan with a lively gaze. She gave a sniff and closed her eyes, letting out a sigh of admiration—

“Wow, your blood smells so fragrant. It’s the highest-grade blood I’ve ever encountered.”

Xia Yuan’s eyelids drooped slightly as he wondered which asylum this girl had escaped from.

With a clang, the girl exerted force with both hands and ripped the car door right off.

Xia Yuan was startled into opening his eyes a bit wider.

Holy shit… he thought. It’s over, I’m really going to die here. I’m already hallucinating.

Was there any petite, beautiful girl in this world who could rip off a car door with her bare hands as if she were removing a block of tofu?

The girl set the car door aside as if it weighed nothing, then her hands moved onto Xia Yuan’s body.

“You’re heavily injured.”

For some reason, Xia Yuan saw her lick her lips, her throat bobbing as she swallowed.

“Hallucinations, it’s all hallucinations…” Xia Yuan closed his eyes. Still, if he was going to have such a hallucination before dying, heaven was being quite kind to him. An angelic girl had come to fetch him before he said goodbye to the world.

“If you die, there won’t be such good blood anymore.”

The girl clicked her tongue, appearing somewhat hesitant. With a sharp rip, she used both hands to tear through the seatbelt strapped across Xia Yuan.

How much strength did it take to tear a seatbelt? Xia Yuan didn’t know, but he was certain he couldn’t do it with his bare hands.

Immediately following that, a cold hand was placed on his back. Xia Yuan felt his body become weightless as he was picked up by the girl. He was momentarily stunned, slumped against her shoulder, his mind a complete blank.

Sure enough, the human will to survive couldn’t be explained by common logic. Xia Yuan thought that even in his own hallucinations, he was imagining a beautiful girl with Herculean strength coming to save him. This was clearly impossible. Generally, those with great strength weren’t pretty, and the pretty ones weren’t strong—unless they were a “King Kong Barbie.”

Carrying Xia Yuan, the girl ran toward the top of the slope with superhuman speed. It was like a gale sweeping across a lawn.

A violent explosion followed—just as they escaped, the car from before erupted in a massive blast. Flames shot into the sky and sparks flew everywhere as the vehicle burned fiercely.

Xia Yuan watched all this vacantly, his eyelids heavy, his entire body overcome by exhaustion. He was placed on the ground by the girl; aside from the cold, he had lost all other sensation.

“You’ve lost too much blood,” the girl said. “Even if an ambulance arrived now, you probably wouldn’t survive.”

“Cough, cough.” Xia Yuan closed his eyes and smiled with relief. Finally, the messenger sent by God had delivered his death sentence. It seemed it was time to leave this world.

“There is only one way to save you,” the girl said.

Xia Yuan forced his eyes open, his gaze filled with confusion. But the strength was draining out of his body; he didn’t even have the energy to speak.

“And that is to enter a contract with me.”

In Xia Yuan’s eyes, the girl’s vivid, luscious lips parted slightly as she spoke words he would never forget for the rest of his life—

“Are you willing to become my lifelong partner, to let your blood be enjoyed by me alone, and never to leave my side?”

What the hell?

A proposal? Or one of the rituals for ascending to heaven? Xia Yuan grew confused.

“I will ask you one more time. Are you willing to become my lifelong partner, to let your blood be enjoyed by me alone, and never to leave my side?”

“Fine.”

Xia Yuan thought that if this was part of the ritual, if this was her wish… while he didn’t particularly care for beauties, what harm was there? He gave a forced nod.

“Okay, you’ve agreed.”

The girl smiled happily, then pulled out a dagger and sliced her own wrist.

What the hell?

Just as Xia Yuan was feeling bewildered, the girl brought her wrist to his lips.

“Drink my True Blood, and you’ll have a chance to recover.”

Xia Yuan’s eyelids were heavy, and he felt quite repulsed by this. Don’t you know how many diseases are transmitted through blood? What if…

“Mnh, gulp, gulp.” A sweet liquid flooded into his mouth.

…

This day was the first time Xia Yuan met his future wife. It was also the first time he learned that a species like the Blood Clan truly existed in the world.
