In just two hours, he performed mental combing on dozens of subjects.
Winslow watched as the military female, who had been shocked awake by electricity, politely nodded to him in thanks before leaving the mental combing room with a lingering current around her body. He sat back in his chair with a somewhat numb expression and soon finished combing the second military female.
As expected, the second subject fell into a deep sleep. When the third military female entered, she naturally walked to the electric chair, pressed the button, and used the shock to wake her sleeping predecessor.
Winslow was speechless. Then came the next one.
In truth, the first military female had mentioned this precaution to the others waiting outside. Consequently, the subsequent soldiers treated it as an essential step. No one objected; they were thick-skinned and did not mind a little shock. Their only regret was that the male Excellency did not personally deliver the electricity.
For two full hours, Winslow’s pace accelerated from ten minutes per person to just one minute. He combed dozens of military females. Aside from the slightly unusual waking ritual, everything went perfectly.
As the two-hour window closed, Chris set aside his official duties and arrived at the mental combing room to supervise the male’s rest. However, upon reaching the door, he found dozens of military females standing there expectantly, holding various items.
Chris was furious. He had clearly stated that the male Excellency would only work for two hours a day. He wondered why there were so many people and how Winslow was supposed to rest.
Chris had misunderstood the situation. Winslow’s combing speed was like a rocket. By the third person, he had instructed the finished soldiers to call more in. Since the instructions only specified a two-hour duration and not a specific number of people, no one had thought to notify the unaware Chris.
Chris stepped forward angrily but then paused. He wondered if his eyes were playing tricks on him because he saw tiny electrical currents flickering on the soldiers’ bodies. When they saw him, the soldiers quickly saluted. Chris noticed the items in their hands: products made of interstellar gems and precious ores. He asked with feigned indifference what they were doing.
Because Colonel Chris was staring pointedly at the gifts, one soldier explained that these were thank-you gifts specifically brought to show their gratitude for the mental combing.
Chris frowned in confusion. If these were gratitude gifts, why were there so many? How could the Excellency have combed so many people in just two hours? He wondered if admirers had sneaked into the crowd. At that thought, his expression became stern. He would not allow anyone to disturb Winslow’s peace. If the Excellency ever wanted company, Chris intended to personally select the finest soldiers to serve him.
“Are you also here to give a thank-you gift?” Chris asked sternly, pointing at a nearby soldier. Only after pointing did Chris realize the soldier was holding a bug doll. He found it utterly improper. He wondered if the doll was an implication that the soldier wanted to raise offspring with the male. Chris’s frown deepened.
The soldier took a few seconds to respond as if just snapping out of a daze. “Ah, yes, Colonel Chris. I am also here to give a gift.”
Before Chris could ask why a bug doll was an appropriate gift, the door to the combing room opened. The last soldier had just finished as Chris arrived. Chris had only been standing there for a minute, so he was unaware of Winslow’s lightning-fast working speed.
Seeing the prominent Colonel Chris among the crowd, Winslow felt a flicker of surprise and a hint of guilt, but he quickly adjusted. “Is it time, Colonel Chris?” Winslow asked, taking the initiative.
“Yes, Your Excellency Winslow. It is time for you to rest. Today’s mental combing session is over,” Chris replied. His voice was no longer stern but gentle, as if he were afraid of startling a fragile creature.
Winslow nodded, his emerald eyes slightly veiled. It seemed he could not continue today as Chris was being quite strict. He felt a bit helpless. He did not feel tired at all and had not been able to test the upper limits of his mental power.
“Excellency,” a respectful voice interrupted his thoughts. Winslow looked up and focused on the speaker. He remembered this was the first soldier he had combed today.
Seeing Winslow look his way, the soldier became excited. His dog-like eyes sparkled with joy. “Excellency, thank you for the mental combing. Also,” the soldier paused sheepishly before gathering his courage, “I felt that you seemed to like this bug doll while you were performing the combing, so I bought it for you.”
The soldier held up a brand-new bug doll. Winslow realized it looked familiar. It was the doll he had envisioned the little white snake sewing in the spiritual sea. Winslow almost laughed. Lower-ranking females were not very sensitive to the details within the spiritual sea during a combing; they could sense a general presence but not specific actions. He had held the doll while finishing the process, not because he liked it.
He was about to decline politely when the usually dormant white snake suddenly darted out. Seeing the familiar object, it naturally coiled around the doll. Winslow stopped himself from speaking. Though the others did not see the snake marking the item, Winslow thanked the soldier and accepted the gift.
Seeing Winslow accept a gift, the other soldiers could no longer keep still. They pushed their gifts forward eagerly.
“Excellency, this is the airship model you saw in my spiritual sea!” “Excellency, this is a beautiful ruby that glows at night!” “Excellency, these are earrings made of interstellar colorful ore!”
Winslow had already accepted the first gift and did not want to show favoritism. He helplessly put everything into his spatial button and thanked each person. Soon, the soldiers realized they should not disturb his rest and reluctantly departed.
Only then did Chris, who had been acting as a background character, snap out of it. “Your Excellency Winslow, did you actually finish combing all those soldiers in just two hours?”
“Of course. I did not go over the time limit,” Winslow replied calmly, subtly poking fun at Chris’s strict rules.
Shocked, Chris did not notice that Winslow sounded more lively than usual. He was still reeling from the fact that Winslow had processed dozens of soldiers in such a short time. Both of them fell silent. Eventually, Winslow said that since he was finished, he would return to his room.
Chris nodded absently, forgetting his usual routine of escorting Winslow back. He stood frozen on the spot, watching Winslow’s lean, upright figure disappear around the corner, unable to recover his composure for a long time.
