Ye Ruoyu works at a small café called Xishang Café. She works with the two owners, Lin Xi and Fei Sijun. Lin Xi handles the cashier and baking, while Fei Sijun makes coffee. Ye Ruoyu is basically the shop’s all-purpose worker.
Ye Ruoyu likes her job because her bosses are kind to her. The café provides her with food and a place to stay, allowing her to save money. Her goal is to save enough money to open her own shop someday.
Recently, however, Ye Ruoyu has been having strange dreams.
In her dreams, she seems to be living inside a dramatic romance novel. Lin Xi is the female lead, while an unknown handsome man is the male lead. Their relationship is full of misunderstandings, family interference, separation, and heartbreak. Eventually, after many years, they meet again and get back together.
Ye Ruoyu herself is only a minor character in the story. She barely has any lines and is basically just a passerby.
Another café customer, Meng You, also appears in her dreams. She is always sitting in the corner with her laptop, working. Ye Ruoyu even notices that the scene from her dream matches reality exactly—including Meng You’s clothes, seat, and the half-eaten sesame bagel beside her.
Ye Ruoyu is shocked for a moment and wonders if she is still dreaming. She pinches her wrist and feels the pain, proving that she is awake.
She decides that the dreams must simply be caused by reading too many romance novels. She believes her subconscious has taken the people around her and turned them into characters in a fictional story.
Later, while Ye Ruoyu is putting away a sign outside the café, she sees a tall, handsome man wearing a dark suit.
He looks strangely familiar.
Then Ye Ruoyu suddenly realizes that this is exactly the scene from her dream.
In the story, the male lead returns after several years and meets Lin Xi again after she has left because of heartbreak.
The man walks toward the café.
Ye Ruoyu becomes nervous, but she tells herself that dreams are not real and that this man could simply be an ordinary customer.
He enters the café.
Lin Xi cheerfully says, “Welcome.”
But when she looks up and sees him, her smile immediately disappears.
The man’s expression is calm, but he says:
“Long time no see.”
Lin Xi turns pale and cannot respond.
Ye Ruoyu is completely stunned.
Her only thought is:
Could her dream actually be real?
