“It’s bad! Really bad! Wang Zhiqing, go call Brigade Leader Chen! His cow is having difficulty giving birth—it’s almost over!”

The piercing cries tore through the night sky.

The tense, confrontational atmosphere from just moments ago vanished, leaving everyone dumbfounded.

Lin Zhaodi’s face, previously full of jealousy, froze in shock.

Her first thought was—this is perfect!

It’s good if the brigade leader’s cow dies!

Then how would he meddle in other matters?

Better yet, let the whole village fall into chaos.

Li Xiu, however, was genuinely anxious. She grabbed the villager’s arm.

“Uncle, don’t panic. What exactly happened? Where’s Dr. Li from the veterinary station?”

“Dr. Li went to the county for a meeting. He won’t be back until tomorrow!”

The villager thumped his thigh anxiously, sweat covering his face.

“The cow’s been struggling all night. Only two legs have come out, but it still can’t give birth. Soon there will be a tragedy! Aunt Cuihua is almost fainting from crying. We have to find the brigade leader’s advice quickly!”

Hearing this, everyone felt their scalp tingle.

In these times, cows were the most valuable property of the brigade, essential for spring plowing and autumn harvests.

If it died, the loss would be enormous.

Wang Jianjun panicked, even putting his shoes on the wrong feet, shouting as he rushed outside:

“I’m going! I’m going!”

The youths couldn’t sit still either; they threw on their coats and ran out to watch the commotion.

Su Wanqing’s heart clenched.

Suddenly, the bullet screen in her mind lit up, flashing in bold red text, almost hurting her eyes.

【Opportunity! A huge opportunity, Wanqing! Go now!】

【Although it’s a cow, not a human, this is exactly what your teacher taught you. Use it!】

【If you save this cow, your status in the Red Flag Brigade will be secure! This is the brigade leader’s cow—an enormous favor! No one will dare bully you after this!】

【Go! Don’t hesitate! This is your first step to fame!】

The bullet screen’s prompts cut through Su Wanqing’s racing thoughts.

She immediately thought of the medical skills her teacher had taught her.

But she had never actually practiced them.

Whatever—she’d treat this live cow as if it were a dead one.

Suppressing her pounding heart, as the crowd surged outside, she suddenly raised her voice, clear and firm:

“Everyone, don’t panic! Maybe I can try!”

Her voice stopped everyone in their tracks.

Dozens of eyes snapped to her, full of shock and doubt.

“What? What did you say?”

Li Xiu was the first to turn, thinking she had misheard.

Lin Zhaodi, hearing such a ridiculous claim, let out a sharp, mocking laugh.

“Su Wanqing, are you crazy? You’re a capitalist young lady—have you ever seen a cow up close? And you think you can deliver a calf? Do you want to kill the cow so the whole brigade starves?”

Her words were sharp and venomous. Several villagers immediately looked wary and suspicious.

“Exactly, this isn’t a joke.”

“Girl, don’t talk nonsense; this is the brigade’s treasure.”

Su Wanqing ignored them, focusing instead on the villager who had reported the emergency. Her gaze was clear and steady, showing calm beyond her appearance.

“Uncle, it will take time to get the brigade leader’s decision. By the time he decides, the cow might not make it. Let me try. Even if I fail, it won’t be worse than now, right?”

Her words were clear, confident, and unpretentious.

As the crowd hesitated, a deep, powerful voice rang out.

“Let her try.”

Gu Yanshen had somehow appeared behind Su Wanqing. His tall figure loomed like a mountain, shielding her from all doubt.

His gaze swept the crowd, finally resting on Su Wanqing’s face. Each word was deliberate and clear:

“I trust her.”

Those three words carried more weight than any explanation.

The courtyard fell completely silent.

Lin Zhaodi’s face turned liver-colored. She glared at Gu Yanshen, wishing she could bore holes through him with her eyes.

Why did he trust her?

What kind of spell had that vixen cast on him?

Su Wanqing’s heart skipped a beat at those three words.

A warm sensation surged from her chest, dissolving all tension and fear.

She turned to him, giving a grateful and reassured glance.

With Gu Yanshen’s support, the reporting villager finally clenched his teeth.

“Alright! A dead horse can be treated as alive! Su Zhiqing, come with me!”

The group immediately surged toward the brigade leader’s cowshed.

Before reaching it, they heard Liu Cuihua’s heart-wrenching cries.

“My heavens! Look at this! This is the pride of the whole village!”

The cowshed was packed with people, all sighing and worried.

The old yellow cow lay in agony, belly distended, trembling, moaning in pain, its big eyes full of tears.

Two of its small calf legs dangled lifelessly outside, already turning purple.

“Clear the way! Su Zhiqing is here!”

The crowd instinctively parted.

Seeing the delicate young girl, Liu Cuihua froze for a moment, then cried even harder.

“Mercy! This is killing me!”

Su Wanqing, however, ignored her and went straight to the cow, crouching beside it. She pulled a clean handkerchief from her pocket and began professionally assessing the situation.

“The calf is in breech, still inverted, and stuck.”

She made a calm diagnosis, then stood and issued instructions to the stunned villagers in a clear, authoritative voice:

“Quick! Boil a large pot of hot water, add salt! Bring a few clean towels! Any strong liquor at home? Bring a bottle!”

“And we need people! Two strong men to hold the cow!”

Her organized instructions prompted the panicked villagers to spring into action.

“I’ll help!”

Gu Yanshen stepped forward first, followed by another sturdy male youth.

Soon, hot water, towels, and liquor were brought over.

Su Wanqing repeatedly cleaned her hands and arms with the strong liquor, then slowly reached inside.

“Ah!”

The surrounding women shut their eyes in fear; Liu Cuihua nearly fainted.

Lin Zhaodi watched from the edge of the crowd, a malicious smirk on her lips.

“Posing. Let’s see how you’ll handle it if the cow dies.”

Sweat dotted Su Wanqing’s forehead, but she remained focused. She carefully felt for the calf, attempting to reposition it, all while giving instructions:

“Hold its legs! Don’t let it struggle!”

Gu Yanshen exerted all his strength to pin the cow’s flailing back legs, veins bulging in his arms.

Yet his gaze never left Su Wanqing’s pale but determined face.

Minutes ticked by.

Just when everyone’s hearts were in their throats, Su Wanqing’s eyes suddenly lit up.

“It’s fixed! Positioned correctly!”

She withdrew her hand and told Liu Cuihua:

“Aunt, go in front, hold the cow’s head, and talk to it. Make it push!”

“Talk to the cow?!” Lin Zhaodi snorted in disbelief.

“Does it understand you?”

“Su Zhiqing, don’t show off. If anything goes wrong, wait until the brigade leader comes back, you’ll regret it.”

Su Wanqing had no time to argue.

“Aunt, hurry! It will understand, trust me!”

“All right, all right, I’ll do it,” Liu Cuihua said, taking the risk. She turned to grab the towels, secretly pulling out a set of fine golden needles from her spatial storage and hiding them in her fingers.

She picked one and, while no one was paying attention, accurately inserted it into a pressure point on the cow’s hindquarters.

“Moo—!”

The old yellow cow seemed infused with strength, letting out a long, loud bellow. Its belly contracted with effort.

“It’s coming! The head is out!”

Someone shouted in delight.

Su Wanqing’s hands were quick and precise; she grabbed the calf’s front legs and, coordinating with the cow’s push, pulled hard.

Splash—

Accompanied by a wet sound, a slippery, newborn calf finally slid onto the straw.

“It’s born! It’s born!”

The cowshed erupted in cheers.

Liu Cuihua cried and laughed, holding the cow’s head.

But Su Wanqing didn’t relax. She noticed the mother cow’s still distended belly and frowned, raising her voice again.

“Quiet! It’s not over!”

The cheers stopped abruptly.

Everyone froze.

Su Wanqing scanned the crowd, dropping another bombshell:

“It’s twins. There’s still one inside.”

What?! Twins?

Everyone was stunned.

This was an incredible blessing.

Lin Zhaodi’s face drained white.

No.

Impossible.

How could this girl have such luck?

Su Wanqing didn’t give them time to recover and reached back in.

The second calf was noticeably weaker; she inserted another golden needle, secretly applying a drop of spring water to the calf’s nose.

Minutes later, the second calf was safely delivered.

Twins.

Mother and calves were safe.

The cowshed went completely wild.

The villagers’ doubt turned into awe and admiration.

“Su Zhiqing is amazing.”

“Truly incredible.”

“No wonder she’s a city youth; she’s impressive.”

Brigade Leader Chen Aipang rushed over, rubbing his hands in excitement.

He strode forward, grabbed Su Wanqing’s dirty hands, eyes reddened:

“Su Zhiqing! You… you’re the savior of our entire village!”

Exhausted, Su Wanqing shook her head with a smile, about to reply politely.

Suddenly, an angry voice exploded outside the cowshed:

“Everyone, get out of the way!”

The crowd turned to see Dr. Li from the veterinary station, sweating profusely, squeezing in with his medical kit.

Seeing the two newborn calves and the blood on the floor, his face went pale. He pointed at the crowd, shouting angrily:

“Who?! Who dared touch my cow?! If anything happens, who’s responsible?!”
