Under Qin Hui’s intense aura, Zhang Lanhua had to beat around the bush:

“Um… Momo isn’t home?”

Squinting her eyes, Qin Hui replied, “Isn’t your Yuyi taking Momo out this afternoon to unwind? Young people, you know… they’re on a date.”Full novel: When the Mother-in-law Meets the Daughter-in-law — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Qin Hui was particularly pleased about this.

Su Mo was the only child in the Su family. She had been spoiled all her life, and Qin Hui doted on her, wanting to give her the very best in the world.

She had even thought that if the Lin family agreed, Lin Yuyi could come at any time to be a live-in son-in-law.

But as Zhang Lanhua opened her mouth, Qin Hui’s smile instantly faded. All the frustration she’d been holding in the past two days erupted.

“Momo’s mom, I have a thought. Didn’t you and your family pay the down payment for Momo and Yuyi’s house?”

“I’m just here to ask if the property certificate includes our Yuyi’s name. If not, you should add it.”

The atmosphere instantly went silent. After saying this, Zhang Lanhua felt embarrassed.

She didn’t dare say another word under Qin Hui’s overwhelming presence.

As a result, no one wanted to recount how the negotiation had ended!

When Su Mo and Lin Yuyi returned from their outing, Su Mo hadn’t yet figured out what had happened before Qin Hui demanded her phone.

“Give me your phone.”

It was the first time Su Mo had seen her mother so furious. Her face darkened as she reluctantly took the phone from her bag, signaling her father, Su Zhengshan.

“Dad, what’s going on?”

Su Zhengshan shrugged helplessly. Since he got home, Qin Hui had been like this.

Qin Hui immediately turned off the phone and, full of anger, warned Su Mo:

“From today on, don’t go see that Lin Yuyi. You two are impossible. Now go back to your room, understood?”

Su Mo froze, too afraid to ask anything, and obediently returned to her room.

Leaning her head against the door, she listened as Qin Hui complained to Su Zhengshan about how unreasonable the Lin family’s old lady was.

“Listen to her! Is that even human speech?”

“They’re asking for a daughter, yet it’s like we’re rushing to be slaughtered.”

“I told you before, that old lady isn’t someone to underestimate.”

Qin Hui brought up what the neighbor had said that afternoon and the cheap hardware Zhang Lanhua had bought for Su Mo.

“Does she think I haven’t seen the world? Trying to get a whole house from me just for some gold? Impossible!”

“She says Yuyi will pay the mortgage himself? Tomorrow, I’ll pay the full amount with our savings!”

“No way will she get even a tiny advantage. Might as well cancel this marriage.”

“Why doesn’t she just have her son become a live-in son-in-law?”

Hearing this, Su Mo finally pieced things together.

So Zhang Lanhua was focused on the house. Initially, the agreement was that Su Mo’s family would provide it, and the certificate would only have her name.

If Zhang Lanhua had come to negotiate with Su Mo directly or if both families had behaved well during the recent dinner this request could have been accommodated.

Now, however, it was impossible.

Once her mother got angry, even her father couldn’t withstand it.

Su Mo was now deeply worried.

No wonder her phone had been confiscated as soon as she got home. Luckily, she still had her laptop.

Sitting cross-legged on the bed with her laptop, Su Mo immediately messaged Lin Yuyi to ask what was going on.

“Yuyi, did your mom talk to you about the house today? Do you know about it?”

About ten minutes later, Lin Yuyi replied:

“I know. This is my mom’s fault. Don’t worry Lin Yuyi will buy you a house in the future, I definitely won’t take your uncle and aunt’s money.”

Hearing Lin Yuyi’s promise, Su Mo realized her mother was overreacting.

Even if Zhang Lanhua insisted, Lin Yuyi would be the one signing the papers in the end.

Feeling relieved, Su Mo recounted how Qin Hui had confiscated her phone, realizing they probably wouldn’t see each other for a few days.

“I miss you, Momo.”

“Once I settle my mom, and get her to understand, we’ll get married.”

“I really can’t wait to marry you.”

Su Mo, grinning like a fool, stared at the constant stream of messages from Lin Yuyi, delighted.

She hadn’t noticed Qin Hui pushing the door open and entering.

“You’re smiling, smiling, smiling you’re about to be sold off, and you’re still smiling?”

Su Mo half-kneeling on the bed, clutched her mother’s arm like a little girl throwing a tantrum.

“Mom, my dear mom, I know! Yuyi told me, he won’t take the house your family bought.”

Qin Hui handed her the gold hardware Zhang Lanhua had bought that afternoon: “Look, this is the gold jewelry your future mother-in-law gave you.”

“Look at the weight lighter than this bracelet on my wrist.”

“So, Mom made a decision for you.”

Su Mo accepted the gold jewelry, completely ignoring Qin Hui’s words.

Lin Yuyi had told her that his mother had spent her whole life doing farm work, never even worn silver jewelry buying these things naturally cost her more than necessary.

She didn’t take it to heart at all.

Patting Qin Hui, she said, “Mom, you’re the best. The best mom in the world!”

“You’re so knowledgeable, elegant, and virtuous. Don’t forget you were a fierce teacher when you were young!”

“You can’t be petty with a woman, right?”

Qin Hui’s mood lightened considerably at the praise, almost forgetting the matter at hand.

She gently held Su Mo’s head: “With your sweet little mouth, how could I let you suffer after marriage?”

“Tomorrow, your neighbor’s son, Aunt Zhang’s boy, returns from studying abroad. I’ll arrange for you to meet him.”

“He knows the family well. Once you’re married, I can visit and see you. Isn’t that right?”

Su Mo’s little mouth curled up mischievously.

“Mom, what are you talking about?”

“Go! Go!”

Qin Hui pushed her to the door, her face cold, issuing strict orders to her naive daughter.

“Tomorrow at noon, you two must meet.”

“As for the Lin family unless I die, I won’t let you marry into them.”

“Mom.” Su Mo panicked slightly, seeing her mother get serious. She pouted at her father, Su Zhengshan: “Dad, look! Mom is bullying me!”

Qin Hui snatched Su Mo’s hand from the door: “This time, even calling your grandma won’t help. Stay in your room. Don’t run tomorrow.”

The door slammed shut, leaving Su Mo no way out.

Her mother, Qin Hui, was truly determined to separate the lovers.

What could she do? Su Mo panicked, tears welling up.
