After all, Lin Yuyi was her son, and Zhang Lanhua didn’t fully understand him yet.

“Oh, oh, my chest hurts so much.”

Seeing Zhang Lanhua clutching her chest in frustration, Lin Yuyi finally relented.

“Okay, okay, I promise! I promise, is that enough?”

“But this matter let’s handle it after I marry Momo.”

Bai Qing, who had been silent this whole time, brightened up hearing Lin Yuyi agree to it.

“I’m sorry, Brother Yuyi. I’ve always caused you trouble since we were kids.”

“Actually, I didn’t mean to let Auntie know about this…” Bai Qing started to explain, but Zhang Lanhua cut her off, stepping protectively in front of her.

“Alright, no need to say anything. This was my idea.”

“It has nothing to do with Xiaoqing at all.”

“Okay, Yuyi, you go do your thing. I have some errands to run this afternoon.”

Lin Yuyi, still worried, asked, “What errands?”

Zhang Lanhua smiled, rolling her eyes at her son, who seemed to forget his mother now that he had a wife.

“What else could it be? Since we need to apologize, I might as well buy something nice for your precious Momo.”

“They want some hardware, right? This afternoon I’ll go shopping with Xiaoqing and buy it myself.”

“See? Now you’re happy. Mission accomplished.”

Hearing that Zhang Lanhua was willing to step back and even buy something for Su Mo, Lin Yuyi was overjoyed.

“Okay, Mom, if you don’t have enough money, just tell me. I’ll give it to you.”

“Don’t worry, I have enough. Go do your thing.”

Earlier, Lin Yuyi had lied to Su Mo, but now he had an excuse to make up for today’s mishap.

That afternoon, Bai Qing accompanied Zhang Lanhua to the jewelry shop run by her friend.

At the entrance, the sales staff immediately recognized Bai Qing, exchanged glances, and understood right away.

“Oh, Xiaoqing! You’ve gotten prettier in just a few days. And this is…?”

Bai Qing guided Zhang Lanhua inside. “This is my aunt. We’re here to buy some gold jewelry for her daughter-in-law.”

“Bring out the good stuff my aunt insists on buying the best for her daughter-in-law.”

“Alright, alright.”

Zhang Lanhua took the glass of water from the staff, smiling, and patted Bai Qing’s hand.

“If it weren’t for that brat Yuyi being bewitched by Momo, you’d be my daughter-in-law anyway.”

“What a pity. Let me buy one for you too.”

Bai Qing knew her limits if Lin Yuyi found out that Zhang Lanhua had also bought her something, he’d probably hold her accountable.

She didn’t want to jeopardize her long-term hold on his heart.

“Auntie, I can’t accept that. You know me I treat you like a real aunt.”

“No way, no way.”

Seeing Bai Qing insist, Zhang Lanhua relented.

However, all afternoon, Zhang Lanhua, who had never liked hardware, only chose cheap items for Su Mo things that could be looked at but not really used.

They were lightweight and meaningless.

Buying all the hardware didn’t even exceed five thousand yuan, but it still made Zhang Lanhua wince.

“Tsk, tsk, Xiaoqing, if it weren’t for you, how much would I have had to spend today?”

“Our Yuyi doesn’t earn money easily, yet he’s always asking for this and that.”

“Auntie, by the way, what about the house?”

“The house?” Zhang Lanhua thought for a moment. “Oh, I remember someone said her family would provide it.”

Upon hearing that Su Mo’s family would pay for the house, Bai Qing’s eyes went wide.

She knew Su Mo came from a good family, but they even gave their daughter a house as part of the dowry. Why didn’t she have that kind of luck?

“Auntie, you know, the house must include Brother Yuyi’s name after all, he’ll be paying the mortgage. What if they ever get a divorce?”

Zhang Lanhua didn’t understand premarital property, but Bai Qing’s words made sense.

Having never been taken advantage of in her village, she wouldn’t let her son suffer a big loss here.

“You’re right. I’ll go discuss this with Yuyi right now.”

Bai Qing grabbed Zhang Lanhua’s arm. “Auntie, there’s no point talking to Yuyi. His heart is already set on Su Mo. It’s better to negotiate with Su Mo’s mother directly after all, she’s the mother-in-law.”

Zhang Lanhua nodded repeatedly, praising Bai Qing the whole way, saying that without her advice, their family would have suffered a lot.

Arriving at Su Mo’s residential complex, Zhang Lanhua had no idea which building or floor she lived on.

Bai Qing went ahead and simply asked a neighbor.

“Do you know where Su Mo’s place is?”

The neighbor, smiling, replied, “You mean Professor Su’s daughter, Momo?”

“Yes, that pampered girl who spends money freely.”

This annoyed the neighbor, who scrutinized Zhang Lanhua from head to toe. “And you are?”

Zhang Lanhua smiled. “I’m her mother-in-law. I came to see her.”

“Oh, she lives in Building 9, 1806. I can show you the way.”

“No need, thank you.”

Following the directions, Zhang Lanhua walked toward Su Mo’s home, ignoring the neighbor’s muttered comments:

“Look at the girl Momo found she’s going to suffer when she marries.”

After a long walk, Zhang Lanhua finally reached Su Mo’s door.

Not knowing how to use the doorbell, she knocked for a long time so hard it sounded like she was trying to break the door down.

“Coming, coming!”

“Who is it?”

The door opened, and Zhang Lanhua’s simple, kind face smiled warmly, though she was decisive in her actions.

“It’s me, Momo’s mom.”

Hearing that Su Mo had said Zhang Lanhua had gotten lost that morning, Qin Hui set aside her anger and welcomed her in.

She glanced behind her. “Yuyi’s mom? Where’s your son?”

“Oh, he’s fine. I came alone.”

Zhang Lanhua spoke in her best Mandarin to communicate with Qin Hui, who could understand most of it.

“Sit down. How did you find us? You must be tired. Momo doesn’t know better she should have told me so I could come pick you up.”

Zhang Lanhua waved her hand.

“It’s fine, it’s fine.”

“Momo’s mom, I came to discuss something with you. I know that in this household, you’re the one in charge.”

Qin Hui’s eyes noticed the determination in Zhang Lanhua.

“Yuyi’s mom, as long as it’s not too unreasonable, we can discuss it.”

Zhang Lanhua looked her over several times, ensuring Qin Hui was being truthful, cleared her throat, and prepared to speak.
