As for the things that husbands and wives are supposed to do Zhou Kai had an open and straightforward personality. He took out his phone and smiled as he spoke, Teacher Wen, would it be convenient to add you on WeChat? We’ll surely need your help with cases in the future, and this way I can consult you anytime.

Wen Qingli nodded and took out her phone to add Zhou Kai on WeChat.

Another young police officer walked over, scratching the back of his head and speaking somewhat shyly. Teacher Wen, do you happen to be free right now?Full novel: When you Marry a Detective in a Flash Please Pretend you Don’t Know Him in Public — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Wen Qingli looked up. What is it?

My little niece loves to draw in her spare time, but I know nothing about it. When she heard that there’s an especially skilled teacher at our station, she specifically asked me to bring her drawings over so you could give her some guidance.

Wen Qingli followed the young officer to his desk.

Zhou Kai let out a soft sigh. Teacher Wen really is quite popular.

Director Zhang chuckled. That she is. Who knows which lucky fellow will end up with her someday.

That “fellow” happened to be Lu Zheng, who fell silent.

As Wen Qingli walked forward, she kept feeling a steady and intense gaze fixed on her back.

She could vaguely sense Lu Zheng watching her, but she dared not turn around.

Everyone at the station was his colleague. She was only helping give some advice on drawings—surely he wouldn’t mind, right?

After Ji Yang brought out the drawings and asked Wen Qingli for pointers and revisions, the improvement was obvious.

Teacher Wen, thank you so much. Are you free this evening? I’d like to treat you to dinner.

Wen Qingli was just about to reply when her WeChat notification chimed.

She took out her phone to check.

Seeing the message from Lu Zheng, her heart seemed to skip a beat.

Z: Let’s leave together.

After typing a simple “okay” in reply, she turned back to Ji Yang. I’m sorry, but I have plans tonight.

Ji Yang waved his hand with a smile. No problem at all—we can do it another time.

Wen Qingli left the station and walked ahead for four or five hundred meters.

She sent a message to Lu Zheng.

Before long, Lu Zheng pulled up in his car.

Feeling awkward about sitting in the front, she reached for the rear door.

She pulled it once, but it wouldn’t open.

The window rolled down. Lu Zheng, wearing black sunglasses, glanced at her, his sharp jawline tilted slightly upward. Sit up front.

Wen Qingli nodded obediently. All right.

Once seated in the passenger seat, she reached for the seatbelt to fasten it.

But the belt seemed stuck and wouldn’t budge.

Just then, the man’s tall, stern figure leaned in close toward her.

A strong, distinct scent of male hormones washed over her.

Wen Qingli felt her breath catch in her throat.

His face drew so near all of a sudden.

With his sunglasses on, she couldn’t see his expression, but her gaze drifted over his lean, firm face, his straight nose, and his slightly pressed, pinkish lips.

The temperature in her body rose uncontrollably.

Her slender fingers curled in slightly.

Seeming to notice her nervousness, a low chuckle rumbled in his throat. Relax. I’m not going to kiss you.

He pulled the jammed seatbelt free and fastened it with a sharp click.

By the time Wen Qingli recovered, he had already leaned back into his seat and started the engine.

Staring at his cold, aloof profile, she mumbled softly, I wasn’t thinking you were going to kiss me.

She knew he wouldn’t.

He started the engine, but before driving off, he glanced at her again.

Seeing her long lashes flutter and her lips pout slightly, looking almost wronged, he felt a strange tightness in his jaw.

She looked so timid, yet so easily flustered.

When she drew the original features of bodies that were barely recognizable, did she do it with teary eyes, trembling all the while?

And looking as delicate as she did, would she even be able to handle the normal physical side of marriage later on?

Teacher Wen.

Hearing him call her that again, Wen Qingli felt inexplicably shy.

You don’t have to call me Teacher Wen in private, she said softly.

The corner of his mouth twitched slightly. He didn’t agree, but he didn’t refuse either.

He drove to a private restaurant.

You bought me noodles last night, so today it’s my turn to treat you.

Last night he had handed her his salary card, which she had returned to him later.

He hadn’t pressed the matter further.

After all, the two of them barely knew each other.

Even though they had been high school classmates, from what he remembered, they had spoken fewer than ten times over three years.

The noodles last night didn’t cost much, but the food at this place is probably quite expensive.

She suggested splitting the bill, but he firmly turned it down.

Once they were seated in a private room, his dark eyes settled on her with quiet intensity. Teacher Wen, we agreed to treat each other with respect and not interfere in one another’s lives—but this isn’t child’s play. We will do all the things husbands and wives are supposed to do, and I will take on all the responsibilities that come with being a husband.

Wen Qingli’s fingers, resting in her lap, tightened slightly.

Did he mean that everything that happens between married couples would happen later?

Including being intimate?

Was that really what he meant?
