The Real Culprit and Their Tragic Ending
Lu Zheng and Zhou Kai went to the City Hospital and found the attending doctor who had treated Su Ying.
Under Lu Zheng’s sharp, intense gaze and overwhelming commanding presence, the doctor quickly told the truth.
“Su Ying was a classmate of mine in high school. She asked me for help, and I couldn’t turn her down, so I made a fake pregnancy report for her. In reality, she was never pregnant at all.”
“Su Ying’s health is perfectly normal. The one who actually cannot have children is Gu Huaiyuan. Back then, Su Ying feared it would hurt his feelings, so she falsified the medical examination results. Gu Huaiyuan has always believed that both of them were healthy.”
“To be honest, I don’t know why Su Ying suddenly pretended to be pregnant to trick him. Maybe after reaching middle age, their feelings had grown cold, and she needed something like this to shake things up?”
“Officer, I only helped her fake the pregnancy and the miscarriage out of consideration for an old classmate. I let my heart soften for a moment—surely I haven’t broken the law, have I?”
As they walked out of the hospital, every question and doubt in Lu Zheng’s mind finally fell into place.
At Lincheng Airport.
Su Ying pushed her luggage through security and hurried into the departure lounge.
There were only ten minutes left before boarding began.
She hoped there was still time to get away.
But just as she was about to board the plane, two uniformed police officers stepped forward.
The color drained completely from Su Ying’s face the moment she saw them.
She had thought her plan was flawless and that no one would ever find out. She never imagined the police would catch up with her so quickly.
As she was escorted back to the police station, a bitter, mocking smile appeared on her ashen face.
Inside the interrogation room.
Lu Zheng looked at Su Ying sitting in the chair, his eyes sharp and unwavering.
“From start to finish, sending the dead rats, splashing red paint on the door, and arranging for those thugs to harass her at the family grave—you staged all of it yourself.”
“You knew Gu Huaiyuan wanted a child. First, you pretended to be pregnant, letting him believe he was finally going to become a father. Then you pretended to have lost the baby, making it look like Lin Weiwei was responsible. This drove a deep, permanent wedge between them and turned their relationship into open hatred.”
“You never needed to kill anyone yourself. You deliberately manipulated and fueled Gu Huaiyuan’s resentment, making him believe Lin Weiwei had robbed him of his chance to have an heir. What you did is still a serious crime.”
Su Ying lifted her eyes, which were now bloodshot and red-rimmed, and slowly curved her lips into a cold smile. “You are right. I planned every single detail, and I made sure Gu Huaiyuan was the one who killed Lin Weiwei.”
For a moment, silence filled the room.
Then, a twisted, desolate expression appeared in her hollow gaze. “But did I really become this way on my own? Wasn’t it all caused by that shameless pair of adulterers?”
Su Ying first met Lin Weiwei during the girl’s final year of university.
Lin Weiwei bore a faint resemblance to Su Ying’s younger sister, who had drowned and died many years before.
The moment Su Ying laid eyes on her, it felt as if she was seeing her sister again.
When she learned that Lin Weiwei came from a poor family and that her parents favored sons over daughters, she truly began to treat the girl as her own sister.
Every month, she gave Lin Weiwei five thousand yuan for living expenses. She invited her over for dinner on weekends, and whenever she bought nice clothes, shoes, or bags, she would give them to her as well. She never suspected anything improper between Lin Weiwei and Gu Huaiyuan—after all, in her eyes, Lin Weiwei was still just a young girl.
That changed three months earlier. She had ended a business trip early, wanting to surprise Gu Huaiyuan, and returned home ahead of schedule.
As she reached the bedroom door and raised her hand to push it open, she suddenly heard soft, intimate sounds coming from inside.
Through the narrow crack in the door, she saw something she would never be able to erase from her memory.
Her husband and Lin Weiwei were lying together naked, tangled in each other’s arms.
In that instant, her mind went completely blank, and she felt as if she had fallen into a freezing, dark cellar.
For a moment, she even thought she was hallucinating. It was only when a sharp, stabbing pain pierced her chest that she realized what she was seeing was real.
The world felt as though it was collapsing around her, and her heart was torn apart by overwhelming agony.
She wanted to rush inside, screaming, and demand to know why they had betrayed and hurt her so deeply. But somehow, she forced herself to hold back.
She stumbled backward, leaving the house in a daze.
After spending the night in a hotel, she returned home the next day and acted as if nothing had happened, making sure Gu Huaiyuan did not notice anything out of the ordinary.
Secretly, she installed tiny hidden cameras throughout the room.
Soon, she discovered that every time she went away on business, Lin Weiwei would come over and sleep in her bed with Gu Huaiyuan.
Su Ying stared at Lu Zheng, her eyes burning red with hatred as she recalled the sight of those two. “I watched on the monitor as he spoke to her so gently and patiently, telling her to get pregnant as soon as possible and give him a child. He even insulted me, saying I was old and useless, a barren hen that could lay no eggs. If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I would never have believed those words came from the man I had known, loved, and been married to for nearly forty-five years.”
“While he went out to buy late-night snacks for her, Lin Weiwei would try on my jewelry, carry my designer handbags, and wear my clothes. I heard her on the phone, complaining to someone else and calling me a fool. She bragged that she was sleeping with my husband while I was still giving her five thousand yuan every month. She said sooner or later, she would make Gu Huaiyuan throw me out and take my place as his wife.”
“I gave everything I had to both of them, and in return, they trampled on my feelings and devoured everything I held dear. I hate them more than words can say!”
“If they could treat me with such disregard, why should I ever care about what happens to them?”
The tears she had been holding back finally spilled freely down her face. Her pale lips trembled uncontrollably. “I loved Gu Huaiyuan with all my heart. He was the one with weak sperm and fertility issues, but I was so afraid it would break him that I kept the truth hidden from him all these years! Why did he hurt me like this? Officer, am I really the one at fault? All the blame lies with them!”
Lu Zheng’s brows drew together tightly, his expression stern and unyielding. “You are an educated, intelligent woman. You could have protected yourself in the proper, legal way. You could have gathered evidence of their affair, reclaimed your lost assets, and exposed the truth. The law and those around you would have ensured you received justice. But instead, you chose to take revenge, crossing the line of legality. You destroyed them—and in doing so, you destroyed yourself as well.”
The veins in Su Ying’s eyes bulged, and a wild, twisted grin spread across her face. “I couldn’t just let it go! I wanted that shameless girl dead! I wanted Gu Huaiyuan to face the firing squad or spend the rest of his life rotting in prison! Even if they lose their reputation and everything they own, it still won’t be enough to erase the pain I feel! Even if it means sacrificing the rest of my own life, I believe it is worth every bit of it!”
A heavy, oppressive silence settled over the interrogation room.
Lu Zheng remained quiet for a moment. As a law enforcement officer, he had dealt with countless dangerous criminals, each with their own justifications and reasons for what they did. But in this moment, the depth of Su Ying’s suffering was something no one else could truly understand.
She and Gu Huaiyuan had grown up together, and she had given him her entire heart and devotion—only to be met with such cruel betrayal and heartbreak. What made it even worse was that the other person involved was someone she had treated like her own sister.
Darkness in human nature, broken relationships, and overwhelming despair—all of these combined to create a tragic ending from which no one walked away unscathed. It was a story where everyone lost.
