Smoke rolled through the Genesis Vault.

The sharp smell of burning metal filled the air as the emergency alarms echoed throughout the underground facility.

SECURITY BREACH DETECTED.

Red lights flashed across the walls, casting long shadows over the rows of research shelves.

Team Seven stood frozen.

At the center of the shattered entrance, the masked leader slowly stepped forward.

In one gloved hand rested a black king chess piece.

Behind the leader stood six armed operatives dressed in black tactical uniforms.

Noah swallowed hard.

“…This just became very real.”

Ryan immediately moved in front of the group.

“Stay behind me.”

Professor Hayes looked around quickly, searching for another exit.

“There has to be one.”

The masked leader looked at Ethan.

“So…”

“Daniel Carter’s little brother.”

“I’ve waited a long time to meet you.”

Ethan refused to step back.

“What do you want?”

The stranger laughed softly.

“The same thing Daniel wanted.”

“The Genesis Project.”

Ryan clenched his fists.

“You’re lying.”

“If that were true…”

“…Daniel would’ve worked with you.”

The masked leader tilted their head.

“Daniel was brilliant.”

“But he was also naïve.”

“He believed discoveries belonged to everyone.”

“We believe discoveries belong to those strong enough to control them.”

Ariana felt a chill run through her body.

“So all of this…”

“…the sabotage…”

“…the threats…”

“…the stolen research…”

“You did it?”

The stranger remained silent.

That silence was answer enough.

Dr.

Samuel Bennett stepped forward.

“That’s enough.”

The masked operatives immediately raised their weapons.

Ryan whispered,

“Bennett…”

“What are you doing?”

Bennett calmly removed his glasses.

“I spent two years pretending to work with you.”

The masked leader chuckled.

“And you played your role well.”

Bennett’s voice hardened.

“But today…”

“…your game ends.”

Without warning—

He pressed a small button hidden inside his watch.

The vault doors behind the masked operatives slammed shut.

Steel barriers dropped from the ceiling.

The entire room sealed itself.

The masked leader’s smile disappeared.

“What did you do?”

Bennett looked directly at them.

“I activated Genesis Lockdown.”

Professor Hayes gasped.

“You still had administrator access?”

“I never lost it.”

Suddenly, computer monitors around the vault came to life.

A calm female AI voice echoed through the room.

“Genesis Security System Activated.”

“Unauthorized personnel detected.”

The masked operatives exchanged nervous glances.

One of them rushed toward the control panel.

Nothing worked.

Every system had locked.

Noah couldn’t hide his excitement.

“They’re trapped too!”

Ryan smiled for the first time since entering the vault.

“Looks like the hunters became the hunted.”

“You think locked doors will stop us?”

They snapped their fingers.

One operative threw a small smoke device across the floor.

Thick gray smoke exploded throughout the vault.

Within seconds…

Visibility disappeared.

“Cover your mouths!” Professor Hayes shouted.

Ariana coughed as the smoke surrounded them.

She reached blindly through the darkness.

“Ethan?”

“I’m here.”

His hand found hers almost immediately.

He held it tightly.

“I’ve got you.”

Despite the chaos…

His voice somehow made her feel safe.

Across the vault…

Claire became separated from the group.

“Professor?”

No answer.

“Noah?”

Only the alarms echoed back.

Suddenly…

Someone grabbed her wrist.

She gasped.

But instead of an enemy…

It was Ryan.

“This way.”

He pulled her behind one of the storage shelves.

“They’re trying to split us up.”

Claire nodded.

“I know.”

Ryan carefully looked around the corner.

“We need to regroup.”

Meanwhile…

Noah stumbled through the smoke carrying his laptop.

“This is officially the worst place to bring electronics.”

The screen suddenly lit up.

A blueprint of the vault appeared.

“What?”

He hadn’t opened anything.

The AI voice spoke again.

“Emergency evacuation route available.”

A hidden passage flashed on the map.

Noah’s eyes widened.

“Guys!”

“I found another exit!”

Professor Hayes heard him through the smoke.

“Noah!”

“Where are you?”

“I’m over—”

Before he could finish—

A loud crash interrupted him.

One of the storage shelves tipped over.

Ryan shoved Claire out of the way just in time.

The heavy shelf slammed onto the floor where she had been standing only seconds earlier.

Claire stared at Ryan.

“You…”

“You saved me.”

Ryan smiled faintly.

“I promised your father.”

Claire blinked.

“You knew?”

“He asked me one favor before he disappeared.”

Ryan looked at her warmly.

“He wanted someone to protect his daughter.”

Tears filled Claire’s eyes again.

The smoke slowly began clearing.

Team Seven finally reunited near the center of the vault.

Everyone except…

Dr.

Bennett.

Ariana looked around.

“Where’s Bennett?”

Ethan frowned.

“He was right beside us.”

Ryan suddenly noticed an open maintenance hatch.

“Alone?”

Professor Hayes looked worried.

“No.”

“He was chasing someone.”

Just then…

One of the vault’s largest monitors flickered to life.

Dr.

Bennett appeared on the screen.

He looked directly into the camera.

“If you’re seeing this…”

“…I’ve probably gone after the organization’s leader.”

Professor Hayes whispered,

“Samuel…”

He continued.

“Listen carefully.”

“The Genesis research isn’t the real treasure.”

Everyone stared at the screen.

“The most valuable file…”

“…is called Project Phoenix.”

Ariana frowned.

“Phoenix?”

Bennett nodded.

“Daniel hid it somewhere even I couldn’t find.”

“If the organization discovers it…”

“…everything we’ve sacrificed will be meaningless.”

The video suddenly cut to static.

No further explanation.

No location.

Nothing.

Ryan slowly closed his eyes.

“So that’s what they were really searching for.”

Ethan looked confused.

“What is Project Phoenix?”

Ryan answered honestly.

“I don’t know.”

“But Daniel once told me…”

“‘Genesis could save lives.'”

“‘Phoenix could change the world.'”

Silence settled over everyone.

Another secret.

Another hidden project.

Another mystery Daniel had left behind.

As the emergency alarms finally stopped, the vault doors slowly reopened.

Campus security rushed inside.

The masked organization had disappeared.

Only one thing remained where their leader had been standing.

The black king chess piece.

Ethan walked over and picked it up.

He looked at the complete chess set resting in his hands.

The black knight.

The white queen.

The white bishop.

The black rook.

The black king.

Five pieces.

Each one had led them closer to the truth.

But the board was still incomplete.

Ryan looked toward the destroyed entrance.

“This wasn’t the final move.”

Professor Hayes nodded.

“No.”

“This was only the opening of a much bigger battle.”

Outside, dawn was beginning to rise over Northfield University.

Students would soon wake up, completely unaware that beneath their feet, a secret war over medical robotics had been unfolding for years.

Ariana stood beside Ethan, watching the first rays of sunlight break across the campus.

“We’re getting closer.”

Ethan smiled.

“Together.”

For the first time, he didn’t feel like he was following Daniel’s footsteps.

He felt like he was creating his own path.

But somewhere deep beneath the university…

Inside a room no one had yet discovered…

A hidden computer quietly powered on.

A single file appeared on the screen.
