The small metal key rested in Ethan’s palm.

Its silver surface reflected the dim light of Ryan’s hideout.

Everyone stared at it as though it held the answers to two years of unanswered questions.

Finally, Noah broke the silence.

“So…”

“We’ve got a mysterious key…”

“…a hidden underground vault…”

“…and a secret organization chasing us.”

He looked around the room.

“I officially miss worrying about exams.”

Despite everything, the others laughed.

The tension eased for just a moment.

Professor Hayes folded the university map and looked at the team.

“We’re not rushing into this.”

Ryan nodded immediately.

“She’s right.”

“The Genesis Vault will almost certainly be protected.”

“If the organization hasn’t found it after two years…”

“…they’ll definitely be watching it now.”

Ethan closed his hand around the key.

“But if we wait too long…”

“They might find it before we do.”

Ariana understood exactly how he felt.

Every clue they discovered brought them closer to Daniel’s truth.

But every step also made the danger greater.

She gently placed a hand on Ethan’s shoulder.

“We’ll do this together.”

He smiled.

“I know.”

The next morning…

Life at Northfield University continued as if nothing unusual had happened.

Students rushed toward classrooms carrying coffee and backpacks.

The campus café overflowed with conversation.

The library was already full of students preparing for the Innovation Showcase.

For Team Seven, however…

Normal life had become an act.

They attended lectures.

Took notes.

Answered professors’ questions.

Yet every one of them was thinking about the Genesis Vault.

During robotics class, Professor Hayes made an announcement.

“The Innovation Showcase has been moved forward.”

The room buzzed with excitement.

“The judging panel will arrive in three days instead of next week.”

Noah nearly dropped his notebook.

“Three days?”

Professor Hayes nodded.

“That means every team must finish its prototype before Friday.”

Ariana exchanged a worried glance with Ethan.

Three days.

Their project wasn’t completely finished.

And somehow, they also had to solve a mystery buried beneath the university.

After class, Team Seven gathered in the engineering workshop.

The medical assistant robot stood proudly in the center of the room.

Its polished silver arm moved smoothly.

The voice-recognition system worked perfectly.

Only one final software update remained.

“We’re close,” Ariana said.

“The closest we’ve ever been.”

Ryan, who had quietly entered through the back door, smiled.

“So was Daniel.”

Everyone turned toward him.

He placed an old memory card on the workbench.

“I found this hidden inside Daniel’s notebook.”

Ethan looked surprised.

“You never mentioned it.”

“I didn’t know it existed until last night.”

Noah immediately inserted it into his laptop.

Several encrypted files appeared.

Most couldn’t be opened.

But one folder unlocked automatically.

Its title read:

FOR ETHAN

Silence filled the room.

Ethan clicked the folder.

A short video began playing.

Daniel appeared once again.

This time…

He was smiling.

“Hey, little brother.”

Ethan’s eyes filled with emotion.

“If you’re watching this…”

“…you’ve gotten a lot taller.”

Noah smiled quietly.

Even Professor Hayes couldn’t hide her emotions.

Daniel continued.

“I wish I could tell you everything.”

“But if this message exists…”

“…it means I couldn’t.”

He looked directly into the camera.

“I need you to do something for me.”

“Finish what we started.”

“Not for revenge.”

“Not for recognition.”

“But because medical technology should save lives…”

“…not become someone’s business weapon.”

Ariana looked toward Ethan.

She could see tears gathering in his eyes.

Daniel smiled once more.

“And one more thing.”

“I know you’ll find people you can trust.”

“When you do…”

“Trust them completely.”

The video ended.

The room remained silent.

Ethan slowly closed the laptop.

“He believed we’d make it.”

Ryan nodded.

“He always believed in you.”

That evening…

The team decided it was finally time.

Ryan spread the underground map across the table.

“The Genesis Vault is here.”

He pointed toward an isolated section beneath Sublevel B.

“There are two possible entrances.”

“The main corridor…”

“…and an old maintenance tunnel.”

Professor Hayes immediately chose.

“We take the maintenance tunnel.”

“The main corridor is too obvious.”

Everyone agreed.

Noah packed flashlights.

Claire prepared emergency supplies.

Ariana checked communication devices.

Ethan slipped Daniel’s key safely into his pocket.

At exactly nine o’clock that night…

The group quietly entered the university through an unused maintenance entrance Ryan had discovered years earlier.

The narrow tunnel smelled of damp concrete.

Old electrical cables ran along the ceiling.

Tiny drops of water echoed through the darkness.

Their flashlight beams illuminated faded warning signs.

Some hadn’t been touched in decades.

Noah whispered,

“This place feels like something from an adventure movie.”

Ryan smiled.

“It was built in the 1970s.”

“Most students don’t even know it exists.”

After nearly twenty minutes of walking…

The tunnel split into two directions.

Ryan stopped.

“The left path leads to storage.”

“The right…”

He looked toward Ethan.

“…leads to the Genesis Vault.”

Everyone instinctively grew quieter.

The deeper they walked…

The more modern the tunnel became.

Fresh security cameras appeared overhead.

New wiring lined the walls.

Someone had upgraded this place recently.

“They’ve been here,” Ariana whispered.

Ryan nodded.

“We’re not alone.”

Finally…

A massive steel door appeared before them.

Unlike everything else underground…

This door looked brand new.

A digital keypad glowed beside it.

Above the entrance were the words:

Ethan slowly removed Daniel’s key.

His hands trembled slightly.

“This is it.”

He inserted the key into a hidden slot beneath the keypad.

For a moment…

Nothing happened.

Then—

ACCESS VERIFIED

A green light spread across the scanner.

The heavy locking system disengaged.

The enormous door slowly opened.

Cold air drifted out from the darkness beyond.

Rows of secure storage shelves stretched farther than anyone could see.

Glass cases lined both sides of the vault.

Inside were notebooks…

Prototype parts…

Research files…

And dozens of hard drives.

Daniel hadn’t hidden a single invention.

He had hidden an entire research archive.

Ariana stared in amazement.

“This…”

“…is years of work.”

Professor Hayes nodded slowly.

“The complete Genesis Project.”

Ryan smiled for the first time in years.

“We found it.”

But before anyone could celebrate—

A slow clap echoed through the vault.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

Everyone turned toward the sound.

Standing at the far end of the vault was Dr.

Samuel Bennett.

He wasn’t alone.

Several people dressed in black suits stood behind him.

Bennett smiled calmly.

“I’ve been waiting.”

Ethan stepped protectively in front of Ariana.

“You knew we’d come.”

Dr.

Bennett nodded.

“Of course.”

“I knew Daniel well.”

“I also knew his brother would eventually solve the clues.”

Ryan clenched his fists.

“So you really were behind this?”

Bennett looked almost disappointed.

“No.”

“You’ve misunderstood everything.”

He slowly stepped forward.

“I’m not here to steal Genesis.”

“I’m here to stop the people who want it.”

Before anyone could respond—

The vault lights suddenly shut off.

Emergency alarms blared throughout the underground facility.

A loud explosion echoed somewhere above them.

The ground shook violently beneath their feet.

Dust rained from the ceiling.

Red emergency lights began flashing.

A computerized voice echoed through the vault.

WARNING.

UNAUTHORIZED BREACH DETECTED.

Dr.

Bennett’s calm expression disappeared for the first time.

“They’re here,” he whispered.

Professor Hayes looked toward him.

“Who?”

Bennett turned toward Team Seven.

“The people Daniel was really running from.”

At that exact moment…

The far wall of the vault exploded inward.

Smoke filled the room.

Dark figures wearing tactical masks entered one by one.

The leader stepped through the dust, holding the final missing chess piece—

A black king.

The stranger smiled behind the mask.

“The game is over.”

The chapter ended with Team Seven surrounded inside the Genesis Vault, realizing that the true mastermind had finally revealed themselves—and that Dr.

Bennett might not have been the enemy after all
