The director of student affairs was so overwhelmed by the sight before him that he instinctively clasped the Omega’s cool fingers in both hands, his mind blanking out for several seconds.
That one brief introduction from the Omega carried so much weight that even the worldly, well-experienced director needed a few moments to process what was happening.
First: the man standing before him really was Jiang Yun, the newly appointed Chief Diplomat of the Alliance Foreign Affairs Department.
Lately, he’d been all over the news, both for leading the crucial peace talks between the Alliance and the Orin Empire and for his beauty, which was said to be unforgettable.
Second: Jiang Yun was actually the Omega father of both Jiang Mu and Lu Chao?
When Jiang Yun withdrew his hand, the director forced himself to look away from the diplomat’s face. His gaze darted between the two boys in disbelief.
“They’re brothers?? born on the same day, same month, same year?” he asked weakly.
They didn’t look alike at all. In fact, he couldn’t remember ever seeing the two interact at school.
Lu Chao snorted. “Director, don’t tell me you’ve never heard the word ‘twins.’”
The director was speechless.
Jiang Yun gave Lu Chao a sidelong glance, and the school’s resident troublemaker immediately shut his mouth, all traces of mockery gone.
Jiang Yun asked the boys evenly, “Are you hurt?”
Jiang Mu silently shook his head. Lu Chao muttered, “From them? Please.”
Jiang Yun turned back to the director, his tone crisp and impersonal. “I’d like to understand what happened.”
“O–of course,” the director stammered. He hurried out from behind his desk and personally pulled out a chair for Jiang Yun. “Please, Mr. Jiang, have a seat. I’ll have my assistant bring you some coffee.”
“Thank you,” Jiang Yun replied simply, settling into the ornate chair. He looked up at the director expectantly, an elegant signal that he could begin.
For a fleeting second, the director felt as if he’d stumbled into a high-stakes diplomatic negotiation. He discreetly wiped at the sweat on his temple and began, “Mr. Jiang, here’s what happened…”
He had been resting in his office when he heard a commotion out on the training field, shouting, cheering, even someone screaming. He immediately pulled up the live surveillance feed and went cold.
Onscreen, Jiang Mu and Lu Chao were fighting two instructors or rather, beating them to the ground.
The two men had tried several times to regain control, but the twins dodged every attempt with unnerving agility, landing faster and heavier blows with each counter.
“The instructors claimed that Jiang Mu and Lu Chao struck first,” the director explained nervously. “They said they were only defending themselves. I confirmed this with your sons, it seems to be true.”
“‘Defending themselves,’” Jiang Yun repeated slowly, raising an eyebrow. “And their reason for fighting?”
The director hesitated. “The instructors said they were only chatting on the field when your sons suddenly attacked. They aren’t sure why.”
The twins said nothing, one looking down, the other feigning ignorance while clearly intent on avoiding the question.
Jiang Yun didn’t press. His tone stayed calm. “Play the holographic reconstruction.”
Both boys’ faces instantly drained of color and for the first time, the director saw just how alike they really were.
“Dad!” Jiang Mu blurted.
“Father, wait!” Lu Chao shouted, panicked.
The school was monitored everywhere for student safety; a holographic reconstruction would replay the scene in 360 degrees, without a single blind spot.
The director had already prepared the footage. By school policy, a parent must view it together with staff.
“You can’t watch that, Dad!” Lu Chao burst out. “That’s…that’s our private matter!”
“Dad, we were wrong!” Jiang Mu pleaded softly. “Punish us however you want, we’ll accept anything.”
“Out,” Jiang Yun ordered coldly. “Wait outside.”
“Dad!!”
The twins were escorted out by the guards Jiang Yun had brought with him.
The hologram flickered to life, filling the spacious office with three-dimensional projections of the two boys.
An hour earlier.
The training session had just ended. The instructor dismissed the cadets to rest or shower.
Lu Chao, who loved excitement, declined his classmates’ invitation to the showers. Instead, he slipped after the top student of the year, Jiang Mu while making sure no one noticed.
When they reached a quiet corner, he called out, “Jiang Mu!”
“Call me brother,” came the curt reply.
“Cut the crap. You’re older by what, a few minutes?” Lu Chao slung an arm around his twin’s shoulders, dragging him close. “How much allowance do you have left this month?”
Jiang Mu’s eyes narrowed in suspicion. “What are you plotting this time?”
Lu Chao looked around, lowered his voice. “I found an AS81 on the secondhand market.”
“You’re insane,” Jiang Mu hissed. “You know piloting a mech without a license is illegal.”
“I know,” Lu Chao said earnestly. “I just want to buy it to look at. I won’t actually drive it.”
Jiang Mu’s face didn’t change. “Do I look that easy to fool?”
Just as Lu Chao was considering whether to sweet-talk him with a few fake “Good brother”s, they overheard two voices.
“When are the talks between the Foreign Affairs Department and the Orin Empire happening again?”
“Next Thursday, I think.”
They were instructors. Jiang Mu instinctively moved to greet them, but then
One instructor said, “Would be nice to see it in person. I’ve never seen Jiang Yun himself before.”
The twins froze, trading sharp glances.
“….. Jiang Yun,” the other drawled, his tone turning lewd. “I met him once when he visited headquarters.”
“How was he?”
“Fucking stunning. I went into rut two days early after seeing him.”
“And what does his pheromone even smell like? Did you get close enough to find out?”
“I wish. With all those guards around him? Not a chance.”
Lu Chao’s eyes darkened. His jaw tightened, fists clenching as fury rippled through him. He was about to storm forward when a hand caught his arm.
His brother’s face was pale. He shook his head quickly.
Fighting was strictly forbidden, and assaulting a teacher was grounds for expulsion. Lu Chao already had a record full of demerits; one more and he’d be gone.
But the two Alphas’ disgusting chatter didn’t stop.
“If I could spend one night with him, I’d die happy.”
“What, you wanna marry him now?”
“As if. No matter how pretty he is, he’s still an Omega who’s had kids… ”
That was it.
Lu Chao’s restraint snapped but before he could move, the grip on his arm loosened.
“…Brother?” he said, startled.
Jiang Mu stepped forward past him, walking straight toward the two men.
They immediately straightened up, posturing like nothing had happened. “Jiang Mu, is there a problem?”
Jiang Mu was shorter by a full ten centimeters, but his expression was calm, polite. “Instructors, I just wanted to ask you something.”
“What is it?” one said, relaxed.
Jiang Mu lifted his hand and slapped him hard.
The instructor froze, stunned. The other grabbed Jiang Mu by the collar. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?!”
It was the first time Lu Chao had ever seen his model-student brother hit someone. For a second he was shocked, then he saw that hand on Jiang Mu’s shirt and exploded.
“Touch my brother again and you’re dead!”
He threw off his jacket and charged.
At that point, the hologram cut off.
Silence filled the room. The director’s face was ashen, sweat running down his back. He wanted nothing more than to faint on the spot.
When he finally dared to glance at Jiang Yun, the man was sitting exactly as before, calm, cold, not a trace of emotion visible. As though he’d merely watched someone else’s story unfold.
After a long, suffocating silence, the director croaked, “M–Mr. Jiang…?”
Jiang Yun’s voice was steady as ever. “Have you decided on their punishment, Director?”
For a second, the director didn’t even know whom Jiang Yun meant. He hesitated. “You mean…?”
“One written reflection each. Three days of detention after class.” Jiang Yun’s tone was procedural, almost polite. “Would that be acceptable?”
According to school policy, a fight warranted at least one demerit and a month of detention, expulsion if the opponent was a teacher.
But the instructors had clearly provoked them first, with obscene remarks no decent person should utter. If word got out, it would damage both the military and Simon Academy’s reputation.
All the director wanted was for Jiang Yun not to press charges over the school’s failure in hiring such disgraceful staff.
He forced a smile. “I’ll have to confirm with the principal, but that should be fine.”
Jiang Yun nodded. “Also, may I see the two instructors’ files?”
The director had no choice. “Of course, Mr. Jiang.”
He tapped a few keys, and their personnel data appeared on the display.
“Lytton Ford. Harry Arwen.” Jiang Yun’s eyes flicked over the files. He tapped the table once with a slender finger. “Two Alphas, three years of service.”
“Yes, that’s correct,” the director stammered.
“And yet they were overpowered by two fifteen-year-old, unmarked boys,” Jiang Yun said mildly. The tone was perfectly ordinary, but a chill swept through the room,
“Naturally, I wouldn’t presume to interfere with your staffing decisions, Director. But I do think the instructors responsible for student training should demonstrate… more competence. Don’t you agree?”
“Yes… yes, absolutely!” the director said quickly, wiping the sweat from his brow. “We’ll make sure our instructors are truly qualified, both in skill and in character!”
“I have some contacts in the military,” Jiang Yun said softly. “If you don’t mind…”
“Not at all! Not at all!” the director blurted. “It would be an honor if you could recommend someone, Mr. Jiang!”
With the matter settled, Jiang Yun rose to leave.
“I’ll walk you out, Mr. Jiang,” the director said hastily, tucking his handkerchief back into his pocket and gesturing politely.
“Thank you,” Jiang Yun said.
They walked side by side down the corridor. The director couldn’t resist stealing glances at the diplomat.
He remembered the rumors that Jiang Yun had borne children. No one knew who their Alpha father was; speculation ran wild.
Just what kind of Alpha could have marked such a man… and left him with twins?
He hesitated, then ventured, “Mr. Jiang, was the boys’ other father… unable to come today?”
Jiang Yun paused, turned his head, and said evenly, “He should be dead.”
The director: “?!”
Outside the administration building, Jiang Mu and Lu Chao waited under the guards’ watch.
Both were wearing their school uniforms, Simon Academy’s signature of noble elegance: crisp white shirts, black coats, tailored trousers, and ties, each chest marked with a deep red emblem. For winter, there was a matching cloak.
On Jiang Mu, everything was perfectly neat buttoned up, tied straight, looking ready to give a formal speech.
On Lu Chao, the coat hung off his shoulders, sleeves empty, tie shoved half into a pocket.
Lu Chao looked up toward the office window, muttering, “Jiang Mu, do you think Dad heard what they said?”
Jiang Mu gave him a look like he was an idiot. “Why do you always ask pointless questions?”
“Should’ve known better than to fight at school,” Lu Chao grumbled, raking a hand through his hair. “My fault.”
“It’s not,” Jiang Mu said quietly. “I hit them first.”
Lu Chao raised a brow, about to tease him. Didn’t think the model student could throw a slap when he caught sight of a man in a sleek black suit. He straightened at once. “Dad!”
Jiang Mu turned too, eyes lighting up. “Father, are you all right?”
Jiang Yun looked at his sons for a moment, voice calm. “I’m fine. Let’s go home.”
The twins exchanged glances.
Lu Chao: That’s it?
Jiang Mu: Don’t ask. Let’s just go.
The two uniformed boys fell into step beside their father, following him down the academy’s old stone steps.
When they were only a few steps from the bottom, Lu Chao hurried ahead, skipping two steps at a time, and beat the guards to open the car door for his father and brother.
