The alpha wolf and the Ye family stared at each other for a long while.
The alpha wolf looked at Xiangxiang, the tiny human child tightly held in Old Madam Ye’s arms, and didn’t dare advance.
If I can’t bite her neck in one strike, what if she hurts the little one? the wolf thought.
The wolf let out a loud roar at Old Madam Ye. Trembling, she hugged Ye Anran even tighter.
Ye Anran seemed to understand what the alpha wolf meant—but why was it calling her “Xiangxiang”?
She glanced at the other wolves and realized that she really could understand them.
Could this be due to her Wood-element ability? But all her abilities were still inaccessible.
She looked at Old Madam Ye. “Grandmother, put me down.”
Old Madam Ye didn’t speak, only hugged her tighter.
Ye Anran gently reassured her. “Grandmother, I think I have a way. Don’t be afraid.”
Struggling in Old Madam Ye’s arms, she finally got down and positioned herself at the front.
Ye Old Master tried to grab her, but she looked at the alpha wolf and said, “Did you just call me Xiangxiang?”
Even as she spoke, her small hands were already holding a handgun.
If the alpha wolf decided she was “delicious” and tried to eat her, her bullets would hit its head—no matter if it exposed her or not.
The handgun came from her space, salvaged from an armory after the apocalypse—finally, it had a purpose.
The alpha wolf’s eyes nearly popped out. It looked back at the other wolves, confused that the tiny human could understand them.
“How… how does this human cub understand us?” it howled.
Ye Anran nodded firmly. “I understand. These are my family. Please don’t eat them.”
She felt that if she could communicate with the wolves, there might still be a way to turn the situation around.
Old Madam Ye, watching this, clutched her chest and pinched her thigh so hard she nearly fainted.
The immortal who had appeared in her dreams had entrusted her with this little one, and now the child had finally arrived.
If she gets eaten by wolves, how can I explain to the immortal? How can I face the ancestors?
Ever since she saw Ye Anran, Old Madam Ye believed she was the child entrusted to her. Caring for this little immortal was a blessing—surely, the family’s future would prosper.
But now, if she failed to protect her… she felt the sky collapsing.
After communicating with the wolves for a while, Ye Anran realized they called her “Xiangxiang” because of her scent. But I don’t smell like anything… Then she remembered the spirit spring water.
Spirit spring water could accelerate plant growth, strengthen bones, cure illnesses, and even detoxify.
She looked at the alpha wolf’s injured leg, clapped her hands, and stepped forward.
“Alpha wolf, I’ll give you delicious water. You must not eat us!”
The alpha didn’t understand what “delicious water” was but nodded slightly.
Ye Anran ran to the kitchen and grabbed a large ladle.
She poured spirit spring water from her space into it, staggering as she carried the heavy ladle toward the alpha.
Old Ye Sanlang’s eyes reddened. This is my precious daughter! She’s bargaining with wolves to save the family, even bringing them water herself!
The alpha wolf, seeing the ladle filled with spirit spring water, realized it was exactly what it wanted—but it still hesitated to step into the kitchen, not wanting to frighten the small human.
Ye Anran placed the ladle on the ground, nudging it with her foot to keep it stable.
The alpha wolf gratefully looked at her, slobbering as it began to drink the spirit spring water.
The other wolves, respecting the alpha, didn’t move at first, even as drops of water dripped to the ground.
Old Madam Ye and Ye Old Master watched, unsure if giving water to the wolves would make them leave.
The alpha wolf drank the ladle nearly dry, then stepped aside and nuzzled Ye Anran with its massive head.
The other wolves rushed forward to drink, but Ye Anran had already been knocked to the ground by the wolf’s affectionate nudge.
The alpha, realizing it had accidentally hurt the little human while showing gratitude, lowered its head and howled, “Delicious! Delicious! Xiangxiang cub, are you hurt?”
Ye Anran patted the wolf. “I’m fine, I’m fine. Just don’t eat my family. If you like this water, I’ll bring more from the mountain in the future. Just don’t scare my family again. Drink and then leave.”
The alpha wolf nodded heavily. “It’s amazing that you understand me. Come up the mountain often—I’ll give you treasures.”
Ye Anran’s eyes brightened at the word “treasure,” but she remained cautious. “Okay, okay. But first, take your pack and leave.”
The wolf obeyed. With a few howls, it led the pack out the door.
At that moment, the village chief and several men arrived at Old Ye’s gate.
Though afraid, they couldn’t watch the Ye household be devoured.
Gripping their weapons, they prepared for a fight—and saw the wolves rushing past them toward the mountains.
The Ye family hadn’t fully processed what had happened.
They could only watch in shock: the little girl was speaking to the alpha wolf, and the wolf completely understood her.
