Across oceans.

Into forests where wolves had hidden for centuries.

Through human cities.

Across the seven worlds.

And beyond them.

Mara stood frozen beneath the golden moon, still holding Kael’s lifeless body.

She couldn’t breathe.

Couldn’t think.

Couldn’t accept what she was seeing.

The newborn wolf floated above them.

It was impossibly small.

Its fur was black, but beneath it ran thin golden lines like veins of sunlight.

Its eyes were closed.

Yet every creature around it had fallen silent.

The First Wolf lowered its massive head.

Lyra wept.

The First Mother stared upward in disbelief.

Then the newborn wolf opened its eyes.

Silver.

Exactly like Kael’s.

Mara whispered:

“Kael.”

The wolf looked directly at her.

For one heartbeat, she felt him.

Not his body.

Not his voice.

Him.

His presence.

His soul.

She reached upward.

The wolf descended.

It landed gently against her chest.

Mara held it.

The moment she touched its fur, a voice appeared inside her mind.

**Don’t cry.**

Mara’s breath caught.

“Kael?”

**I’m here.**

She closed her eyes.

Tears streamed down her face.

“You died.”

**I know.**

“You gave your heart away.”

**I know.**

“You idiot.”

The tiny wolf seemed to smile.

**I missed you too.**

Mara laughed through her tears.

Then something changed.

The golden moon cracked.

Everyone looked upward.

A deep sound echoed across the sky.

The First Mother stepped backward.

“No.”

The First Wolf looked at her.

“What?”

The First Mother pointed toward the moon.

“The heart.”

The First Wolf’s eyes widened.

“It survived.”

Mara frowned.

“What survived?”

“The First Heart.”

The First Mother looked at Kael.

“You didn’t destroy it.”

Mara looked down.

The tiny wolf was glowing.

“Where is it?”

The First Mother whispered:

“Inside him.”

Kael opened his eyes.

He was standing in darkness.

Not ordinary darkness.

There was no ground.

No sky.

No direction.

He floated.

He looked down at himself.

He had a body.

But it wasn’t human.

He was a wolf.

A massive black wolf.

Golden light ran through his fur.

He tried to speak.

Nothing happened.

Then a voice spoke behind him.

“You finally woke up.”

Kael turned.

A woman stood there.

Silver hair.

Black eyes.

The dark Mara.

Kael stared.

“You’re dead.”

She smiled.

“Not exactly.”

He looked around.

“Where are we?”

“Inside the First Heart.”

Kael looked at his paws.

“Why am I here?”

“Because you gave your heart away.”

“Then why am I alive?”

“Because you are the heart.”

Kael frowned.

“What does that mean?”

The dark Mara walked toward him.

“You finally understand what the First Mother never did.”

“Which is?”

“Creation doesn’t require a creator forever.”

She touched his forehead.

“You’ve become the source.”

Kael stared at her.

“Then I’m not dead.”

“No.”

“Can I return?”

She hesitated.

“Not yet.”

“Why?”

“Because the worlds haven’t finished changing.”

Kael looked around.

“What is this place?”

“The space between worlds.”

“And you’re here.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

She smiled.

“Because I was supposed to die.”

Kael frowned.

“What?”

“I was created from a choice that was never completed.”

She looked at herself.

“When I sacrificed myself, I stopped being a world.”

She touched his chest.

“I became a doorway.”

Kael stared.

“A doorway to where?”

“Anywhere.”

Outside, Mara held the newborn wolf.

The First Mother approached.

“Give him to me.”

Mara immediately stepped backward.

“No.”

“I need to examine him.”

“You’ve done enough.”

The First Mother looked at her.

“If the First Heart remains inside him, the worlds are still connected.”

“Good.”

“No.”

The First Mother shook her head.

“You don’t understand.”

“What?”

“He isn’t just connecting the worlds.”

She looked at the sky.

“He’s becoming them.”

Mara’s expression changed.

“What?”

The First Mother pointed toward the seven moons.

“Look.”

The golden moon brightened.

Then the silver moon.

Then the black moon.

All seven began shining.

Mara felt Kael move in her arms.

His tiny body grew.

Not physically.

His presence expanded.

His mind touched hers.

Then the First Wolf’s.

Then Lyra’s.

Then every wolf.

Every human.

Every creature.

For one moment, Mara could feel everyone.

Millions of thoughts.

Millions of dreams.

Millions of fears.

Millions of memories.

She nearly collapsed.

“Kael!”

The newborn wolf looked at her.

**I’m sorry.**

Mara held him tightly.

“Stop.”

**I can’t.**

“Why?”

**I can hear everyone.**

Mara looked at the First Mother.

“What do we do?”

The First Mother whispered:

“We teach him how to close his mind.”

Three days passed.

The world did not return to normal.

It became something else.

Humans and wolves now lived together.

Some accepted it.

Others didn’t.

Cities became divided.

Forests expanded.

Magic appeared in places where it had never existed.

Children began being born with strange abilities.

Some could speak to animals.

Some could manipulate shadows.

Some could see memories.

And some—

could transform into wolves.

The first generation of the new werewolves had begun.

But they were different.

They weren’t cursed.

They were born.

Naturally.

The old Moon-Born called them the Dawn Wolves.

The humans called them monsters.

The wolves called them children.

And above them all—

the golden moon watched.

Mara stood on a balcony overlooking the rebuilt First Kingdom.

Lyra stood beside her.

She was no longer a child.

The First Heart had changed her.

She looked sixteen now.

Her golden eyes reflected the moon.

“He’s sleeping.”

Mara nodded.

“He’s exhausted.”

Lyra looked toward the room.

“Is he really my father?”

Mara smiled.

“Yes.”

“Even though he’s a wolf?”

“Especially because he’s a wolf.”

Lyra laughed.

Then became serious.

“Mother?”

Mara looked at her.

“What?”

“Do you think he’ll ever become human again?”

Mara looked toward the moon.

“I don’t know.”

Lyra was silent.

Then she asked:

“Do you miss him?”

Mara smiled.

“Every second.”

Lyra leaned against her.

“I don’t remember him as a human.”

“You will.”

“How?”

“Memories are strange.”

Mara touched her forehead.

“Sometimes they don’t belong to your mind.”

“Where do they belong?”

Mara looked at the moon.

“The heart.”

Inside the palace, Kael slept.

His body was still that of a wolf.

But his dreams were human.

He walked through a forest.

Mara was beside him.

Lyra ran ahead.

Elara and Lucien followed.

The First Wolf walked behind them.

Everything felt peaceful.

Until Kael noticed something.

The trees were burning.

He stopped.

“Mara.”

She turned.

“What?”

“Something’s wrong.”

The dream changed.

The sky became red.

The golden moon turned black.

Lyra disappeared.

Mara vanished.

The First Wolf growled.

Kael turned.

A figure stood between the trees.

A man.

Tall.

Pale.

Wearing a crown made from bones.

Kael knew him.

But not from his memories.

From something older.

The man smiled.

“Hello, brother.”

Kael’s eyes narrowed.

“Who are you?”

The man laughed.

“You don’t remember me either.”

“Tell me.”

The man stepped closer.

“I am the first son.”

Kael froze.

“The first what?”

“The first child.”

Kael stared.

The man pointed toward the sky.

“Before the First Mother.”

“Before the First Wolf.”

“Before Mara.”

“There was me.”

Kael’s heart began pounding.

“That’s impossible.”

The man smiled.

“Is it?”

He raised his hand.

The entire dream shattered.

Kael woke violently.

His eyes opened.

Mara was beside him.

“Kael!”

He growled.

Mara touched him.

“It’s me.”

He looked at her.

Then calmed.

She smiled.

“Bad dream?”

Kael stared at her.

Then spoke for the first time through his human mind.

“Not a dream.”

Mara froze.

“What?”

He looked toward the window.

“Someone is coming.”

A bell rang.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

Every wolf in the kingdom lifted its head.

The First Mother rushed into the room.

“He’s awake.”

Mara nodded.

Kael stood.

His body remained a wolf.

But his voice now came clearly.

“Who is he?”

The First Mother looked at him.

“You saw him.”

“Yes.”

She became pale.

“The first son.”

Kael frowned.

“Tell me.”

The First Mother closed the door.

“No.”

Kael stared.

“Why?”

“Because if I tell you, you’ll go looking for him.”

“Yes.”

“And that’s exactly what he wants.”

Mara stepped forward.

“Who is he?”

The First Mother looked at them.

“He was the first thing Kael ever created.”

Kael froze.

“Me?”

The First Mother nodded.

“Before the First Wolf.”

“Why don’t I remember?”

“Because you destroyed him.”

Kael’s expression hardened.

“Why?”

“Because he tried to destroy you.”

Silence.

“Why?”

The First Mother looked toward the moon.

“Because he believed he should have been king.”

Kael stared.

“King of what?”

“Everything.”

The palace shook.

A deep laugh echoed outside.

The First Mother turned.

“No.”

Mara reached for her sword.

“He’s here.”

Kael walked toward the balcony.

Outside, the entire kingdom was frozen.

Every wolf stood motionless.

Every human looked upward.

A black figure floated above the city.

The man from Kael’s dream.

The bone crown rested on his head.

His eyes were gold.

He looked down.

“Little brother.”

Kael stepped onto the balcony.

“Who are you?”

The man smiled.

“My name is **Azeron**.”

The First Mother whispered:

“The First Son.”

Azeron looked at her.

“Mother.”

She trembled.

“You should be dead.”

“I was.”

He smiled.

“Then again, so was he.”

He pointed at Kael.

Kael stepped forward.

“What do you want?”

Azeron’s smile disappeared.

“My throne.”

“You don’t have one.”

“I do.”

“Where?”

Azeron pointed toward the sky.

“The seventh world.”

Kael frowned.

“It’s empty.”

“Not anymore.”

The seven moons shifted.

A black doorway opened behind Azeron.

Beyond it was absolute darkness.

Azeron stepped backward.

“I’ve been waiting.”

Kael raised his head.

“For what?”

Azeron smiled.

“For you to become powerful enough to kill me.”

Kael’s eyes narrowed.

“Why would I do that?”

“Because if you don’t…”

Azeron looked toward Mara.

“…I will.”

Mara stepped forward.

Kael growled.

Azeron laughed.

“Good.”

His body began dissolving into black smoke.

“Come find me, brother.”

The doorway closed.

The kingdom breathed again.

Kael looked at the seven moons.

The First Mother approached him.

“Don’t go.”

Kael turned.

“I have to.”

“No.”

“He’s my brother.”

“He isn’t.”

Kael stared.

“What?”

The First Mother shook her head.

“He was never your son.”

Kael frowned.

“Then what was he?”

She looked frightened.

“He was your first mistake.”

That night, Kael stood alone beneath the golden moon.

Mara joined him.

“You’ve decided.”

“Yes.”

“You’re going after him.”

“Yes.”

“I knew.”

Kael looked at her.

“You don’t have to come.”

Mara smiled.

“You’re not getting rid of me that easily.”

Kael laughed.

For a moment, everything felt normal.

Then Lyra appeared.

“I’m coming too.”

Kael shook his head.

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because you’re the heart of this world.”

Lyra frowned.

“Exactly.”

Kael stared.

“If Azeron wants the seventh world, he’ll need me.”

Lyra smiled.

“And if he wants you, he’ll come for me.”

Kael’s expression hardened.

“That’s why you stay here.”

Lyra shook her head.

“Father.”

“What?”

“I’m not a child.”

Kael smiled.

“I know.”

“I can fight.”

“I know.”

“I can protect myself.”

“I know.”

“Then let me come.”

Kael looked at Mara.

Mara shrugged.

“She gets that stubbornness from you.”

Kael sighed.

“Fine.”

Lyra smiled.

“But we don’t go alone.”

The First Wolf emerged from the shadows.

“I am coming.”

Elara stepped forward.

“So am I.”

Lucien appeared beside her.

“Me too.”

The First Mother approached last.

Kael looked at her.

“You said I shouldn’t go.”

“I changed my mind.”

“Why?”

She looked toward the seventh moon.

“Because I know what waits there.”

Kael’s eyes narrowed.

“What?”

She whispered:

“Your first creation.”

They prepared before dawn.

Five wolves.

Two humans.

One Moon-Born.

One First Mother.

And one king reborn.

The gateway to the seventh world opened above the mountains.

Black lightning flashed across the sky.

Kael looked back at the kingdom.

Mara stood beside him.

Lyra was on his other side.

He knew there might be no return.

Azeron wasn’t simply another enemy.

He was the first thing Kael had created.

The first betrayal.

The first forgotten memory.

And perhaps—

the first reason the worlds had ever gone wrong.

Kael spread his wings.

“Ready?”

Mara transformed.

Lyra climbed onto the golden wolf.

Elara and Lucien followed.

The First Mother opened the gateway.

Kael looked once more at the golden moon.

Then he flew.

They entered the seventh world.

Darkness swallowed them.

For several seconds, there was nothing.

Then—

a light appeared.

Azeron’s throne.

A gigantic black throne surrounded by thousands of bones.

Azeron sat upon it.

And beside him stood someone Kael never expected to see again.

The dark Mara.

Alive.

Kael stopped in midair.

Mara gasped.

Lyra whispered:

“That’s impossible.”

Azeron smiled.

“Welcome, brother.”

The dark Mara looked at Kael.

Her eyes were no longer black.

They were silver.

She smiled.

“Did you really think I died?”

Kael’s blood froze.

Azeron stood.

“Now that everyone is here…”

He raised his hand.

The seventh world awakened.

Mountains rose.

Oceans appeared.

Millions of dead wolves opened their eyes.

Azeron looked at Kael.

“Let us finally build the world our father promised us.”

Kael raised his sword.

“I never promised you anything.”

Azeron smiled.

“You did.”

The ground split beneath them.

“And I’m going to make you remember.”

A thunderous roar shook the seventh world.

Then the darkness came alive.
