The darkness moved like a living ocean.

Kael stood at the edge of the seventh world, his wings spread wide, staring at the armies rising from the earth.

Thousands of wolves emerged from beneath the black soil.Full novel: WOLVES OF THE BLOOD MOON — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Then thousands more.

Their bodies were skeletal in some places, translucent in others, and covered in ancient silver scars.

They were not Hollow Wolves.

They were older.

Far older.

The dead.

The first wolves.

The ones whose names had disappeared from every surviving world.

Their eyes opened simultaneously.

Golden.

Every one of them looked toward Kael.

Then they bowed.

Azeron smiled from his throne.

“Do you see?”

Kael tightened his grip on his sword.

“What?”

“They remember their king.”

“I am not your king.”

Azeron laughed.

“You still don’t understand.”

The dark Mara stood beside him.

She looked different now.

The blackness that had once surrounded her was gone.

Her silver eyes were calm.

Almost gentle.

Kael stared at her.

“You said you were dead.”

She smiled faintly.

“I was.”

“Then how are you here?”

Azeron answered.

“I brought her back.”

Mara stepped forward.

“Why?”

The dark Mara looked at her.

“Because he needed someone who knew you.”

Mara’s expression hardened.

“You don’t know me.”

“I know everything you are afraid to remember.”

The two women stared at each other.

Kael stepped between them.

“Enough.”

Azeron laughed.

“Still protecting her.”

Kael looked at him.

“Tell me why you brought us here.”

Azeron’s smile disappeared.

“Because this is where it began.”

He spread his arms.

“This is the world before worlds.”

The First Mother stepped forward.

“No.”

Azeron looked at her.

“You remember.”

“Yes.”

“Then tell them.”

The First Mother remained silent.

Kael turned toward her.

“What is this place?”

She whispered:

“Home.”

Kael frowned.

“Whose?”

“His.”

She pointed toward Azeron.

“Before you created the First Wolf, you created him.”

Azeron smiled.

“I was your first child.”

Kael shook his head.

“I don’t remember.”

“You were never meant to.”

“Why?”

“Because you were afraid of me.”

Azeron descended the throne.

“You created me with everything you possessed.”

He pointed toward Kael.

“Your strength.”

“Your memories.”

“Your imagination.”

“Your hunger.”

“And your loneliness.”

Kael felt something stir inside him.

A memory.

A small child.

Black hair.

Golden eyes.

Standing alone beside him in an empty universe.

Kael had reached out.

The child had taken his hand.

**Father.**

Kael staggered.

Azeron smiled.

“You remember.”

Another memory came.

Kael teaching the child to create.

A mountain.

A river.

A wolf.

A star.

The child laughed.

Then—

another memory.

Azeron looking at the First Heart.

Wanting it.

Kael refusing.

Azeron becoming angry.

The memory shattered.

Kael whispered:

“You wanted the First Heart.”

Azeron nodded.

“I wanted what was mine.”

“It wasn’t yours.”

“I was your first creation.”

“That doesn’t make you my equal.”

Azeron’s expression darkened.

“Exactly.”

The world trembled.

“That’s why I hated you.”

Mara stepped beside Kael.

“You tried to kill him.”

Azeron looked at her.

“You would know.”

Mara’s eyes narrowed.

“What does that mean?”

Azeron smiled.

“Ask your other self.”

The dark Mara looked away.

Kael turned toward her.

“What happened?”

She didn’t answer.

Azeron laughed.

“She was there.”

Mara frowned.

“Where?”

“The first betrayal.”

Kael’s heart stopped.

“The first betrayal?”

Azeron nodded.

“The moment everything began.”

He raised his hand.

The sky changed.

A gigantic memory appeared above them.

Kael watched himself standing beside Azeron.

The First Mother was behind them.

And a young Mara was approaching.

Azeron looked at her.

**You shouldn’t be here.**

Mara answered:

**Father sent me.**

Azeron laughed.

**He doesn’t trust you.**

**He trusts me more than you.**

Azeron’s expression changed.

Then the memory shifted.

Mara was holding the First Heart.

Kael appeared.

**Give it to me.**

Mara hesitated.

**Azeron said you were going to destroy him.**

Kael stared.

**Who told you that?**

Azeron stepped from the shadows.

**I did.**

Kael turned.

The memory became chaotic.

Azeron attacked.

Mara defended him.

The First Mother joined.

The First Wolf was created.

The Moon exploded.

The worlds shattered.

The memory ended.

Kael stood frozen.

Mara whispered:

“I betrayed you.”

Kael turned toward her.

“Why?”

She looked at him.

“Because I believed him.”

Azeron smiled.

“You believed correctly.”

Mara shook her head.

“No.”

Azeron frowned.

“I was wrong.”

“You were.”

Mara stepped forward.

“But so were you.”

Azeron’s eyes narrowed.

“What?”

“You didn’t want the First Heart because you wanted freedom.”

She pointed at him.

“You wanted control.”

Azeron smiled.

“What’s the difference?”

“Everything.”

The dead wolves began growling.

The First Wolf stepped forward.

“Azeron.”

Azeron turned.

“You.”

The First Wolf’s lips curled.

“I remember.”

Azeron’s smile disappeared.

“You should be dead.”

“I was.”

“Then why are you here?”

The First Wolf looked at Kael.

“Because he brought me back.”

Azeron stared.

“You shouldn’t have been able to.”

Kael raised his sword.

“Apparently, I can do many things you didn’t expect.”

Azeron laughed.

“You’re still weak.”

Kael’s wings opened.

Gold light spread across the battlefield.

Every dead wolf stepped backward.

Azeron’s expression changed.

“That’s impossible.”

Kael looked at his hands.

The First Heart was no longer inside his chest.

But he could feel it.

Everywhere.

In the ground.

In the sky.

In the wolves.

In the Moon.

In himself.

Azeron whispered:

“You became the Heart.”

Kael nodded.

“Yes.”

Azeron stepped backward.

“You don’t understand what you’ve done.”

“Then explain it.”

“You’ve made yourself mortal.”

Kael frowned.

“What?”

Azeron smiled.

“The First Heart was immortal.”

He pointed at Kael.

“You aren’t.”

Kael’s expression changed.

“If you kill me…”

“The worlds die.”

Azeron nodded.

“Exactly.”

Silence.

Mara whispered:

“That’s why he brought us here.”

Kael looked at her.

“He wants me to fight.”

“Yes.”

“Because if I die—”

“The worlds die.”

Azeron smiled.

“Now you’re beginning to understand.”

Azeron raised his hand.

The dead wolves attacked.

Kael transformed.

The battlefield erupted.

The First Wolf charged into the army.

Elara and Lucien fought side by side.

Lyra unleashed waves of golden energy.

The First Mother created walls of silver fire.

Mara moved like lightning.

And Kael—

flew.

His wings carried him above the battlefield.

He dove toward Azeron.

Their swords collided.

Azeron’s blade was black.

Kael’s was gold.

The impact created a shockwave.

Kael struck again.

Azeron blocked.

“You’ve improved.”

Kael attacked.

“You’ve weakened.”

Azeron laughed.

“You think becoming the Heart made you stronger?”

Kael struck his shoulder.

Azeron stumbled.

“Apparently.”

Azeron looked at the wound.

Black blood flowed.

He smiled.

“Good.”

The wound healed.

Kael froze.

“You regenerate.”

“So do you.”

Kael looked at his chest.

His wound had already closed.

Azeron smiled.

“Then let’s see which of us remembers how to kill the other.”

They attacked simultaneously.

Their swords collided.

Again.

Again.

Again.

Every strike created memories.

Kael saw Azeron as a child.

Azeron saw Kael as a king.

Kael saw the first world.

Azeron saw the seventh.

They fought through centuries.

Thousands of years.

Every forgotten life.

Every betrayal.

Every death.

Then Azeron whispered:

“You still don’t remember the final moment.”

Kael blocked.

“What final moment?”

Azeron struck.

The sword pierced Kael’s chest.

Kael gasped.

Azeron leaned close.

“The day you killed me.”

Kael’s eyes widened.

Azeron twisted the blade.

“Not the First Mother.”

“Not Mara.”

“Not the First Wolf.”

“Me.”

Kael grabbed the sword.

“I never killed you.”

Azeron smiled.

“You did.”

The world vanished.

Kael stood in the original universe.

Everything was white.

No stars.

No planets.

No Moon.

Nothing.

Azeron stood before him.

Young.

Innocent.

Terrified.

Kael looked different too.

He was young.

Barely more than a child.

Azeron was crying.

**Why are you doing this?**

Kael’s younger self answered:

**Because you’re becoming dangerous.**

**I can change.**

**No.**

**Father, please.**

Kael’s younger self raised his hand.

The First Heart appeared.

Azeron screamed.

**Don’t!**

Kael hesitated.

Then—

he tore Azeron’s soul apart.

Azeron fell.

Kael watched him die.

The memory ended.

Kael fell to his knees.

“No.”

Azeron appeared before him.

“You remember now.”

Kael stared.

“I killed you.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Azeron smiled.

“Because you were afraid.”

Kael shook his head.

“I was trying to protect everyone.”

“You always say that.”

Kael looked at him.

“What happened after?”

Azeron pointed behind him.

Kael turned.

The seventh world appeared.

Azeron’s body lay on the ground.

But something remained.

A shadow.

A fragment.

A thought.

Azeron’s soul had survived.

And it had entered the seventh world.

He had waited.

For centuries.

For Kael to return.

For the worlds to break.

For the First Heart to appear again.

Kael whispered:

“You’ve been planning this.”

“Since the beginning.”

Kael returned to the battlefield.

His body fell.

Mara caught him.

“Kael!”

He opened his eyes.

“I remember.”

“What?”

“I killed him.”

Mara looked toward Azeron.

“Why?”

“Because I was afraid.”

Azeron approached.

“Now you understand.”

Kael stood.

“You wanted revenge.”

“No.”

Azeron shook his head.

“I wanted acknowledgment.”

Kael frowned.

“You wanted me to admit you were my son.”

Azeron became silent.

Then nodded.

“Yes.”

Kael looked at him.

“You are.”

Azeron’s expression changed.

“You admit it?”

“Yes.”

“You regret killing me?”

Kael hesitated.

“Yes.”

Azeron lowered his sword.

For the first time, the anger disappeared from his face.

“You have no idea how long I waited to hear that.”

Kael stepped closer.

“Then stop.”

Azeron looked at him.

“Stop what?”

“All of this.”

Azeron looked around.

At the dead wolves.

At the broken world.

At Mara.

At Lyra.

At the First Mother.

Then he looked at Kael.

“I can’t.”

“Why?”

“Because I’ve already become what you feared.”

Kael shook his head.

“You can choose differently.”

Azeron smiled sadly.

“That’s what you taught me.”

He raised his sword.

“And that’s why I’m going to choose.”

Kael raised his own.

“Then choose peace.”

Azeron looked at him.

“No.”

He turned the blade toward himself.

“I’m choosing you.”

Kael’s eyes widened.

Azeron plunged the sword into his own chest.

Black energy erupted.

“No!”

Kael ran toward him.

Azeron fell.

His body began dissolving.

Kael caught him.

“Why?”

Azeron smiled.

“Because the First Heart needs a vessel.”

Kael froze.

“What?”

Azeron touched his chest.

“You can’t carry it alone.”

The First Heart began glowing.

Kael felt something entering him.

Azeron’s soul.

His memories.

His power.

His existence.

Kael screamed.

Azeron whispered:

“Take me with you.”

Then he vanished.

The battlefield became silent.

Kael fell to his knees.

Mara ran to him.

“Kael!”

He looked up.

His eyes had changed.

One was silver.

One was gold.

Mara stared.

“What happened?”

Kael answered:

“Azeron is inside me.”

The First Mother stepped backward.

“No.”

Kael looked at her.

“What?”

She whispered:

“That was his plan.”

Mara frowned.

“What plan?”

The First Mother pointed toward the sky.

“The seventh world.”

Everyone looked upward.

The black moon began cracking.

Azeron’s voice echoed through the universe.

**You thought I wanted your throne.**

Kael’s eyes widened.

The voice continued.

**I wanted your body.**

The black moon shattered.

A gigantic black wolf emerged.

It was larger than mountains.

Its eyes were gold.

Its body was covered in ancient symbols.

The First Mother screamed.

“The First King.”

Kael stared.

“What is that?”

She answered:

“Your original form.”

The black wolf opened its mouth.

And the entire seventh world began being pulled into it.

Mountains.

Oceans.

Wolves.

Humans.

Everything.

Kael felt himself being dragged upward.

Mara grabbed him.

“Kael!”

He reached for her.

“Don’t let go!”

“I won’t!”

Lyra grabbed Mara.

Elara grabbed Lucien.

The First Wolf dug its claws into the earth.

The First Mother created a shield.

But the black wolf was too powerful.

The seventh world was disappearing.

Kael looked toward the enormous creature.

Then he understood.

Azeron had not wanted to destroy the worlds.

He wanted to become the world.

Kael shouted:

“EVERYONE!”

The wolves looked at him.

“Don’t fight it!”

Mara stared.

“What?”

“Listen to me!”

The First Mother understood.

“No.”

Kael looked at her.

“We have to let it happen.”

“You’ll die.”

“Maybe.”

Mara shook her head.

“No.”

Kael smiled.

“But this time…”

He looked toward the black wolf.

“…I know what choice I’m making.”

He released Mara’s hand.

She screamed.

“KAEL!”

He flew upward.

Straight toward the black wolf.

The creature opened its jaws.

Kael entered.

Darkness swallowed him.

Inside—

he found Azeron.

Azeron stood before the First Heart.

“You came.”

Kael raised his sword.

“Yes.”

Azeron smiled.

“Then let us finish what we started.”

Kael lowered his weapon.

“No.”

Azeron frowned.

“What?”

“I’m not fighting you.”

“Then why are you here?”

Kael stepped forward.

“To forgive you.”

Azeron’s face changed.

“You killed me.”

“I know.”

“You abandoned me.”

“I know.”

“You chose everyone else.”

“I know.”

Azeron’s eyes filled with tears.

Kael reached out.

“You were my first child.”

Azeron trembled.

“I hated you.”

“I know.”

“I wanted to destroy everything.”

“I know.”

“Why don’t you hate me?”

Kael smiled.

“Because I created you.”

Azeron began crying.

Kael embraced him.

The First Heart exploded.

Not violently.

Beautifully.

Golden light filled the seventh world.

The black wolf disappeared.

The dead wolves became stars.

The broken worlds stopped collapsing.

Azeron’s soul dissolved into the light.

And his final words echoed:

“Thank you, Father.”

Kael opened his eyes.

Mara was holding him.

He was human.

His wings were gone.

His heart was beating.

His body was covered in scars.

Mara stared.

“You’re alive.”

Kael smiled.

“Apparently.”

She hugged him.

He held her tightly.

Lyra cried.

The First Wolf howled.

The First Mother watched silently.

Then Kael looked upward.

The seven moons were gone.

Only one remained.

A golden moon.

The First Mother smiled.

“The worlds are one.”

Kael looked around.

“What does that mean?”

She answered:

“It means there is no longer a first world.”

“No second.”

“No third.”

“Only one.”

Kael looked at Mara.

“And the curse?”

The First Mother shook her head.

“Gone.”

“The Moon-Born?”

“Free.”

“The wolves?”

“Free.”

“The humans?”

“Free.”

Kael smiled.

“For the first time.”

Mara touched his hand.

“Yes.”

Then Lyra suddenly gasped.

“Father.”

Kael turned.

“What?”

She pointed toward the horizon.

A dark line had appeared beneath the golden moon.

Kael’s smile disappeared.

“What is that?”

The First Mother looked.

Her face became pale.

“No.”

Kael stared.

“What?”

She whispered:

“We didn’t destroy the seventh world.”

The horizon cracked.

Something enormous began rising.

The First Mother stepped backward.

“We only woke it.”

Kael reached for his sword.

Mara transformed.

Lyra’s eyes glowed.

The First Wolf growled.

The ground began shaking.

And from beneath the newly united world—

a voice spoke.

Not Azeron’s.

Not the First Mother’s.

Not Kael’s.

Something older.

Something that had existed before creation.

**WHO DARES TO BUILD A WORLD WITHOUT ME?**

The golden moon turned blood-red.

Kael looked at Mara.

Mara looked at him.

Then Kael smiled grimly.

“Looks like we’re not finished.”

A gigantic eye opened beneath the earth.

And the entire world screamed.
