As usual, the entrance to D University was bustling on Monday. Jun Lin’s driver was a smart man; knowing that Xia Ruohan didn’t want to attract attention, he dropped her off not far from the gate.
Xia Ruohan’s jet-black hair was tied back, and she wore a form-fitting tracksuit with the pant legs rolled up, revealing her slender ankles. On her feet were a pair of pink sneakers.
“Ruoruo.” As soon as she stepped through the gate, she heard someone call out.
Immediately, a girl rushed up to her and gave her a big hug.
Recognizing her, Xia Ruohan pushed her away and said dryly, “It’s only been two days.”
Ruan Jinxi smiled at this. Her hair fell loosely behind her, a few strands flying wildly as she’d been running. She looked at Xia Ruohan and asked, “Weren’t you supposed to be getting married?”
“Just because I got married, you think I’m as good as dead?” Xia Ruohan smoothed out her clothes and headed toward the classroom building.
Ruan Jinxi walked beside her, placing a hand on her shoulder. “That Jun guy has a terrible temper. How did you manage to put up with him?”
“I realized…” Xia Ruohan said, completely changing the subject, then turned to look at her, hesitating for a long moment before continuing.
“What did you discover?” Ruan Jinxi asked. “Go on, don’t keep us in suspense.”
“Jun Lin is actually quite gentle.”
When Ruan Jinxi saw the joy in Xia Ruohan’s eyes as she said this, her steps faltered involuntarily.
“Ruoruo, didn’t you say you didn’t like Young Master Jun?”
Xia Ruohan paused for a moment before replying, “He really is popular with girls.”
“So, have you fallen for him?” Ruan Jinxi’s voice carried a hint of uncertainty.
Xia Ruohan shook her head. “I don’t know.”
She had never liked anyone before, so she didn’t know what it felt like to have feelings for someone.
“Then spend more time with him. You’ll figure out if you like him or not.”
Xia Ruohan nodded, but she didn’t notice that Ruan Jinxi’s face, which had been smiling just a moment ago, had twisted into a grimace, her eyes filled with intense hatred.
In just a second, all the grimace and hatred vanished.
It was as if they had never appeared on Ruan Jinxi’s face at all.
Once they reached the classroom, Xia Ruohan and Ruan Jinxi found seats and sat down. A commotion erupted at the door.
“Holy crap! Another new student?”
“Damn, she’s way too hot!”
“What’s your name, beautiful?”
“What’s your phone number, beautiful?”
Xia Ruohan acted as if she hadn’t heard a thing, as if it had nothing to do with her.
“Ruoruo, do you think she’s transferring within the school or from another school?”
The newcomer was surrounded by classmates, so Ruan Jinxi couldn’t see her. She nudged Xia Ruohan’s arm with her elbow and asked.
Xia Ruohan shook her head, indicating she didn’t know.
“Move aside.” A clear, sharp voice rang out right next to her ear. Xia Ruohan looked up.
She saw a girl with a high ponytail, wearing a black T-shirt and jeans, with a black backpack slung over one shoulder. Her face wore an impatient expression.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Ruan Jinxi frowned at her. “This is my seat.”
The girl glanced at her, raised her hand, placed it on Ruan Jinxi’s shoulder, and pushed down.
“Ouch! Are you crazy?” Her grip was so strong it made Ruan Jinxi gasp. She grabbed the girl’s wrist, trying to pry it away.
Song Nan gave a cold laugh and said, “Move.”
“Excuse me,” Xia Ruohan couldn’t stand it anymore. She stood up and looked at Song Nan. “This seat is taken. You can sit somewhere else.”
Song Nan withdrew her hand and said, “I want to sit with you.”
Xia Ruohan was taken aback. Sit with her?
“Is that okay?”
There was a pleading tone in her voice, and Xia Ruohan actually detected a hint of vulnerability in it. Her heart softened, and she let her sit beside her.
