The words were barely out of its mouth before it slammed the card it had just searched directly into the Spell and Trap Zone.
“I activate the Quick-Play Spell Card, Reign of the Dark World!” Grapha’s voice rolled across the dueling field like thunder.
“This is the exclusive Fusion Spell of the Dark World!
And what it calls forth is the supreme sovereign, the mightiest existence in all of Dark World!
Its Fusion requirements are: Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World, plus one DARK attribute monster!” Nate crossed his arms.
So you’ve finally decided to summon your true final form.
The monster with the power to rewrite your opponent’s card effects.
Rewrite your opponent’s card effects?
At those words, another wave of shocked cries broke out through the crowd.
“That can’t be real!
I’ve never heard of a monster that can forcibly alter someone else’s card effects!” “If that thing hits the field, does that mean even Spells and Traps are useless against it?!” Grapha listened to the outcry and threw its head back with a peal of laughter.
“Hahahaha!
That’s right, boy!
Now witness the final form that has transcended the very limits of the abyss!” “I use Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World from my hand, and Snow, Enchantress of Dark World from my Graveyard, as Fusion Materials!” “O chaos of darkness, converge into one, and give birth to the supreme king who reigns over all things in the demon realm!” “Fusion Summon!” “Appear before me!
Grapha, Dragon Overlord of Dark World!!!” Before the words had even faded, the light above the dueling field was swallowed whole.
The sky seemed drenched in thick ink, rapidly bleeding into an eerie dark violet.
A savage gale rose from nothing, and the air filled with the acrid stench of sulfur and destruction.
The ground began to shake violently.
Countless black cracks spiderwebbed outward across the floor, and scorching dark violet miasma gushed up from below.
“ROAAAAR!!” A dragon’s cry exploded from deep beyond the stone gates, so powerful it became a physical shockwave, instantly blasting the surrounding dust into nothing.
An enormous pair of demonic wings, vast enough to blot out the sky, reached out from the darkness first, dark violet patterns flowing across the feathers like pooling magma.
Then the Dragon Overlord’s colossal body slowly emerged, clad in heavy armor black as ink that gleamed with a cold metallic sheen, the draconic core on its chest pulsing with a sinister red light.
Its 3200 ATK manifested as a physical black storm, sweeping across the entire dueling field.
Grapha, Dragon Overlord of Dark World Level 10 / Fiend / Fusion / Effect ATK: 3200 Every student watching involuntarily took a step back, faces pale with fear.
Monstrous ATK and the power to rewrite an opponent’s card effects.
So this was the true strength of Dark World.
“Next I activate the second effect of Reign of the Dark World in my Graveyard.
During my Main Phase, while this card is in the Graveyard, I can add it to my hand, then discard one Dark World monster from my hand!” Grapha held up a card between two claws.
“I activate the effect of Reign of the Dark World, returning it to my hand, then send Kahki, Assassin of Dark World from my hand to the Graveyard!” “Kahki, Assassin of Dark World!” Grapha’s gaze turned to Nate.
“When this card is discarded from the hand to the Graveyard by a card’s effect, I target one monster on the field and destroy it.
The monster I’m destroying is your Synkron Resonator!” A shadowy assassin burst from the darkness, the blade in its hand flashing cold, and the Synkron Resonator was cut to pieces in an instant, exploding into fragments.
“Next I activate the effect of Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World in my Graveyard, Tributing Beiige, Vanguard of Dark World on the field to Special Summon it!” The moment the words landed, the Dark World vanguard dissolved into light.
The next instant, an enormous dragon claw armored in scales as cold as obsidian, wreathed in ghostly green hellfire, slammed down onto the edge of the rift and crushed the ground beneath it to powder.
Then the massive, sky-filling body rose slowly from the darkness.
Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World ATK: 2700 “Battle Phase!” Grapha bared its teeth in a savage grin and pointed at the monsters on Nate’s field.
“Go, Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World!
Destroy Clear Resonator!” Grapha let out a furious roar, and the enormous claw blazing with ghostly green hellfire crashed down.
The terrible dark storm swallowed Clear Resonator whole and reduced it to scattered fragments.
Nate braced against the dueling wind blowing into his face and drew a card that ejected from his Duel Disk’s Graveyard zone.
“At this moment, the effect of Clear Resonator, sent to the Graveyard, activates!
This effect can only be activated when this card is sent to the Graveyard.
I add one Spell or Trap Card that mentions Red Dragon Archfiend in its text from my Deck to my hand.” “I add the Continuous Spell, Crimson Hell Burning, from my Deck to my hand!” The deck auto-shuffled and a card ejected from it.
Nate pinched it between his fingers and looked at Grapha.
“What, you’re not going to use your rewrite effect on this?” “Hehehe…
hahahaha!” A low, raspy laugh rumbled out of Grapha’s throat, its crimson eyes flickering with cunning light.
“Did you think that kind of cheap bait would fool me, boy?!
I haven’t forgotten about that Great Soul sitting in your Graveyard.
As for that Spell Card you just searched, consider it a gift!” Hearing that, the corner of Nate’s mouth lifted in a smile weighted with something unspoken.
“Is that so?
Then I’ll gratefully accept your generosity.” Nate added the searched Crimson Hell Burning to his hand.
A bluff.
Grapha snorted, drew a card from its hand, and set it face-down in the Spell and Trap Zone.
I set one card.
Turn end!
As the Set card disappeared from view on the field, a cold, victory-assured smile spread across Grapha’s face.
Then, during my End Phase, that insufferably mighty Savior Demon Dragon of yours will obey its own compulsory effect and return quietly to your Extra Deck.
With your last shield gone, the next turn will be your end!
The moment the words fell, Savior Demon Dragon on the field let out one long, drawn-out roar.
The light of salvation around it began to dim.
Its massive body grew gradually transparent, dissolving into countless points of golden starlight.
In that instant.
Nate’s voice rang out, calm and even.
“The effect of Savior Demon Dragon activates!
During each End Phase, this card returns to its owner’s Extra Deck, then I target one Red Dragon Archfiend monster in my Graveyard and Special Summon it!” At the very moment the golden starlight vanished completely, a blazing crimson vortex tore open in the Graveyard.
Scorching lava surged up from below.
With an earth-shaking, savage dragon’s roar, a dragon with massive crimson wings, its entire body burning with roaring crimson flame, returned to the field carrying a presence of total, unstoppable destruction.
Red Dragon Archfiend Level 8 / Dragon / Synchro / Effect ATK: 3000 DEF: 2000 Watching the roaring crimson dragon on the field, Grapha let out a mocking smile.
You really did hold your nerve.
You genuinely chose not to activate Great Soul’s effect.
Activating it would have just let you rewrite it into a discard.
Why waste it for nothing?
Nate said, his tone light.
But Great Soul’s second effect requires you to control a Level 10 or higher DARK Dragon Synchro monster to activate it.
Grapha scoffed.
Do you really think I’ll let you Synchro Summon something of that level on your turn?
Hearing this, Nate smiled faintly, a quiet confidence glinting in his eyes.
If I don’t try, how will I ever know?
With that, he called out.
“Then at the moment Red Dragon Archfiend is Summoned to the field, since a Synchro monster was Special Summoned, I can activate the effect of Miracle of the Coming Light in my Spell and Trap Zone!” “Draw one card from my Deck, or Special Summon one Tuner from my hand!” “I choose to Special Summon one Tuner from my hand!” Nate held up a card.
“I Special Summon the Level 1 Tuner monster from my hand, Synkron Resonator!” A monster holding a tuning fork appeared on the field.
Synkron Resonator, ATK: 800.
“And with that, your turn is over.
It’s my turn now!”
