“This bitch crippled Ah Niu!

Beat her to death!” Furious, the other man waved the stick in his hand, intending to cripple Akari then and there.

However, after taking a direct blow to the head from a baton, he collapsed onto the ground as well.Full novel: Zenless Zone Zero: The Unknown Proxy Everyone Chases — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

There were five of them in total.

With one down and one crippled, only three remained.

However, Akari had also exhausted a lot of her stamina.

Facing off against five people with only a single baton in hand was a troublesome situation no matter how you looked at it.

At a glance, these guys were clearly criminals engaged in illegal activities.

If they weren’t dealt with and brought to justice, they would only cause more trouble in the future.

With that thought, Akari charged forward, facing the danger head-on.

The opponents hadn’t expected Akari to dare charge forward when she was outnumbered.

In their panic, they failed to react in time.

Akari swung the baton wildly, but her strikes were precise and powerful, hitting two of them in succession.

Seeing an opening as Akari swung her weapon, the last man struck her on the head with his stick.

Feeling warm blood trickling down her head along with a wave of dizziness, Akari collapsed against the wall, gasping for breath in shallow breaths.

“I’ll kill you!” Seeing Akari collapse and all his companions down, the man decided to kill her to silence her.

“Bang!” Just as he was about to swing his stick to deliver the lethal blow, a gunshot rang out.

A bullet pierced his chest, splashing blood across the ground and all over Akari’s face.

Gunpowder smoke lingered at the muzzle; the merciless bullet had claimed the thug’s life.

The Public Security Officer who fired held the handgun tightly.

Though her eyes showed determination, her hands were still trembling uncontrollably.

Akari had won her gamble; her decision to call the police earlier was the right choice.

The Public Security Bureau had arrived faster than expected.

It was not just the Guangying Branch; even a large team of officers from Third Street had arrived in person.

In just about five minutes, at least sixty Public Security Officers had arrived.

Looking at the heavily armed Public Security Officers in front of her, Akari felt a surge of relief.

She wiped the blood from the corner of her eye, slowly stood up, and pointed toward the office building.

“Ma’am, are you alright?” A Public Security Officer supported Akari, a worried expression on his face, terrified that something serious might happen to her.

After all, that strike to the head had been a heavy blow; a normal person would have been killed or permanently crippled.

Yet Akari had taken a direct strike to the head with sheer grit.

“I’m fine.

Just use some gauze to stop the bleeding.” Akari touched her hair, her hand coming away covered in blood.

If she didn’t stop the bleeding soon, she really might kick the bucket.

Hearing this, an accompanying Public Security Officer pulled out a medical kit and began applying a crude bandage.

Although the bandaging technique was clumsy—sloppy, even—it managed to stop the bleeding.

Since he wasn’t a professional doctor, Akari had no complaints about him managing this much.

“I am Zhu Yuan, Captain of the Criminal Investigation Special Response Team at the Guangying Branch.” “I am currently leading the team under orders to thoroughly investigate this matter.

Unidentified miss, please cooperate with us.” “We will handle everything from here on out.

You only need to cooperate with our questioning.” Next, a female Public Security Officer with streak-dyed red hair on one side and resolute eyes stepped out from the crowd.

This officer had a tall posture, a serious look in her eyes, and held a riot shotgun tightly in her hands.

“Officer Zhu Yuan, could I bother you with something?” Akari’s voice was weak, but she forced herself to hang on.

Though she hadn’t passed out from blood loss, her current situation was far from ideal.

She gave off the impression that speaking a few more words might be her last.

“Of course.

Within reasonable bounds, we will do our best to accommodate your request.” Zhu Yuan nodded.

Accommodating a victim’s request was acceptable, as long as it wasn’t unreasonable and fell within her authority.

“Among those pets, there’s a calico cat about one year old…” “Please ask someone to find that calico separately, then send it to the coffee shop on Sixth Street, and have a very well-groomed woman in her 30s sign for it…” “Thank you for your help, Officer Zhu Yuan…” Having said that, Akari’s breathing grew heavy, and she slowly closed her eyes.

Seeing this, Zhu Yuan panicked and rushed over to perform CPR, but upon checking her breathing, she found that Akari had merely passed out temporarily due to trauma stress, with no life-threatening danger.

Seeing Zhu Yuan begin assigning tasks, the other Public Security Officers moved in an orderly fashion, quickly surrounding the office building.

In the end, the pet company was investigated and shut down according to the law, with charges including selling large quantities of stolen pets to the market, as well as intentional injury and illegal detention committed by its employees.

When she woke up, Akari found herself lying in a hospital bed.

Beside her was Zhu Yuan, earnestly reading a magazine.

Beside Zhu Yuan stood a cute green-haired loli with twin tails; her eyes were sly and lively, yet she possessed an air of maturity.

“Senior Qingyi, the miss who was involved has woken up.” Seeing Akari open her eyes, Zhu Yuan smiled gently.

She sat by the bed and peeled an apple, only handing it over to Akari after completely removing the skin.

“Officer Zhu Yuan, thank you.” Although she knew Zhu Yuan from the game and even used her frequently in Hollow Zero…

…to avoid causing herself unnecessary trouble, Akari decided to play dumb and pretend nothing had happened.

She took the apple and ate it in small bites, appearing no different from any ordinary patient.

“Miss Akari, we are very curious about something.

Could you answer a question for me?” “Of course, this is merely my own curiosity.

If you find it offensive, you don’t have to answer.” Immediately following that, Zhu Yuan directed a sharp, scrutinizing gaze toward her.

A cold sweat broke out on Akari, sending a chill down her spine, but she still feigned composure, as if nothing were amiss.

“If it’s a personal question, I can answer depending on the situation.” “If Officer Zhu Yuan is questioning me publicly on behalf of the Public Security Bureau, I will tell you everything without reservation and answer every question honestly—it is my duty as a law-abiding citizen…” Akari nodded, indicating that Zhu Yuan could ask her questions.

Her response was equally sly and subtle; though it seemed like an answer, it actually tossed the ball back into Zhu Yuan’s court.

In essence, this behavior was still passing the buck.

Now, if Zhu Yuan wanted to ask freely or hear her true answer, she had to admit she was questioning her in an official capacity rather than asking for a response as a private individual.

Seeing through Akari’s little scheme, Zhu Yuan smiled faintly and threw out a fatal question.

“Miss Akari, as far as I know, according to your New Eridu citizen profile, you are a college graduate who has been unemployed and working odd jobs for the past two years.

May I ask how you managed to take on so many thugs?” This question hit hard and accurately, striking right at Akari’s vital spot.

If she didn’t answer well and exposed her identity as a Proxy, she might really end up behind bars.
