In the days that followed, Susu felt her luck was so good it was almost ridiculous.
Though she spent her time wandering aimlessly, she always managed to find ripe wild fruits along the way.
Once, she even discovered a fresh piece of meat left behind by some unknown animal.
Food was plentiful.
More importantly, in the past three or four days, Susu hadn’t run into any beasts that could threaten her life.
Based on her limited knowledge of the animal kingdom, such a peaceful stretch was a rare occurrence.
But Susu had no time to dwell on such questions.
She was busy setting up her brand-new home in this world—a hollow in a tree.
The trees here were incredibly thick and tall; it would take two or three people linking hands just to wrap their arms around a single trunk.
A hollowed-out space like this was more than enough for a young leopard cub like her, who was barely bigger than a house cat.
Susu had found some soft, smooth reeds by the river yesterday and left them on the bank to dry.
After several trips running back and forth, clenching the semi-dry reeds in her teeth, she finally managed to drag them all back to the tree hollow.
With them, she made a simple, but relatively dry and comfortable, nest for herself.
Even though she had found enough to eat for the past two days, Susu, with her keen sense of danger, diligently brought back any leftover fruit to store for a rainy day.
After all, her good luck wouldn’t necessarily last forever.
Especially over the past two days, as Susu darted through the woods, she couldn’t shake the feeling of a chill running down her spine, as if something was constantly watching her from the shadows.
It reminded her of the two soft chuckles she’d heard when she first arrived in this world—the ones she had dismissed as auditory hallucinations…
Susu couldn’t shake her unease.
As the old saying goes: walk dark roads long enough, and you’re bound to meet a ghost.
For Susu, those words were soon proven true.
‘I just wanted to expand my territory a little, to probe deeper into a part of the jungle I’d never been to before.
Who would’ve thought I’d run into a centipede whose head alone was bigger than my entire body!!’
‘Well, on the bright side, this at least puts a definitive end to the lingering fantasy I’d been clinging to.
I am now absolutely, positively certain that this world is not the one I came from!’
‘Where back home would you ever see a centipede three or four meters long?!’
Scurrying in a panic across the soft, muddy forest floor, Susu forced herself to run in an S-pattern, trying to confuse the giant centipede relentlessly chasing her.
However, as the saying goes: when it rains, it pours.
And just like that, Susu had the extreme misfortune of getting to experience what it felt like to be caught between a rock and a hard place.
As she watched a Fierce Tiger step out elegantly from behind the bushes and vines ahead, and then glanced back at the giant centipede closing in on her, Susu felt her world crumbling.
Susu had no intention of being mauled to death by the Fierce Tiger or torn apart by the centipede.
So, when she was less than five or six meters away from the tiger, her small body suddenly screeched to a halt on its front paws.
Using her tail for balance, she executed a beautiful, sharp turn right under the Fierce Tiger’s nose and bolted in another direction without a single glance back…
The giant centipede, which had been so relentlessly and doggedly pursuing her, clearly didn’t possess Susu’s superb cornering skills.
Its enormous body, like an out-of-control heavy truck, slammed horrifically into the Fierce Tiger!
