“Jason, I’ve done it!
I finally found the answer to the time travel equation!” A man exclaimed loudly through his cell phone.
“You were still working on that?
I thought the agency said to scrap that entire project.” Jason replied.
“Who cares what they wanted to scrap when I find a problem this big I just cant stop until I’ve found the answer that’s how I got this job in the first place as you may already know.
Anyway do you want to wittness my groundbreaking moment?” The man said through the phone with excitement and a proud smug tone.
“Yea, yea get over yourself already, and if you’ve already gone this far I may as well since you decided it was okay to let your curiosity get all of us who worked on that project terminated.
When are you going to try your theory?” Jason said with a sigh his tone as if he had expected this eventually.
“Come on don’t be like that when they see the results they will have no choice but to reinstate that project and reward us highly for our diligence.
Anyway I will start the test in about an hour, bring some snacks if we’re going to the past I want to show them how good the future is.” The man said before abruptly ending the call.
‘I’ve done the calculations over a thousand times, in theory once I activate the machine it should create a tunnel through spacetime that will allow human travel.’ The man thought to himself as he went back to going over his simulations and calculations.
Before he knew it 45 minutes had flew by and there was a buzzing sound throughout his laboratory indicating Jason’s arrival.
He quickly jumped up from his desk startled by the abrupt buzzer spilling his coffee onto his notes and bumping his knee before slightly limping to the door.
“You should have called now I have to dry this notebook and copy it over.” He pouted as he opened the door for Jason.
“Quit your whining, you’re acting like you actually have to do any of that by hand just scan it and have it 3D printed.” Jason said as he also shoved a bag full of snacks into his friends arms.
“How did you even get the time travel equation to function properly Ethan?” Jason asked as he took a look through the notes across one of the desk within the laboratory.
“I realized that for all of our technology on earth we have to tune the power outage, and the physical capabilities to be compatable with earth, and that’s because they work based on the earths laws, physics, thermodynamics and the likes and it got me thinking…” “If we make objects to interact with larger scale laws like universal laws then we need to do the entire design with that scale and frame of reference in mind.
I first added a strong magnetic modulation that will remove the atmosphere from a specific space creating a vacuum, and I added additional magnetic modulations at random intervals that will mimic the magnetic and gravitonal…” Ethan said nonstop.
“Actually, never mind I can just read the notes later, way to make an astrophysicist feel smart by the way.
When are you going to turn it on?
Did you build this yourself or is the the same machine from the facility?” Jason asked in a nonchalant tone as he reclined back in Ethan’s office chair.
“Right!
That saves time let’s get started now, and…
you probably shouldn’t ask so many questions this machine is probably a walking death sentence.” Ethan said.
Without giving jason a second to take in what he just said he pulled the switch of the machine causing a loud whirring noise as the machine started up.
As the machine used more and more power the lights began to flicker in the building while the magnets were so strong Jason and Ethan could feel themselves being pushed and pulled by the different invisible forces.
Eventually the noise from the machine began to die down as a smooth and steady white noise was all that could be heard.
The lights in the laboratory stopped flashing altogether and went completly dark as the white noise from the machine remained as steady as ever.
“Once the machine is on it powers its self by creating electrical currents in the magnetic field.” Ethan said with one hand on the machine.
“Now this is moment of truth!” He said as he clenched his free hand.
He began entering a sequence on buttons that were a calculation of the magnetic field strength and charge at a specific location within spacetime to attempt a pinpoint time travel marker.
‘Why not go to somewhere when I was a kid, maybe I can stop myself from falling in love so early.’ He thought to himself as he did some quick calculations to get the specific time he wanted to travel to.
Once he was done he entered the calculated coordinates and charge of the magnetic field and as soon as he was done entering it the magnets began to exert an even more overwhelming force as they began to force all of the particles out of the specified space within the laboratory.
“This seems dangerous we should stop!” Jason shouted only for the sound waves in his voice to be broken apart by the strong magnetic force within the room The space where the vacuum was being created began to become distorted as the magnets began to fluctuate their strength wildly imitating to their best ability the charge coordinate Ethan had entered moments ago.
Not even a minute had gone by before right in front of Jason and Ethan the image of a different space began to appear as if a window to the universe was placed in front of them.
Ethan could see a younger version of himself disassembling his parents old computer around 17 years old.
Both Jason and Ethan stood there in absolute shock not knowing what to do.
Ethan began to reach his hand out, the further he reached and closer he got to the separate space the more he felt as if the magnetic field surrounding that space was pushing him away.
But he so vividly remembered this moment in his life, his parents had just got a divorce and this was the last chance he got to see his best friend before he passed away.
“Ethan stop!
We can’t push through the timeline like this!” Jason shouted for him to stop.
But it was already too late, he unconsciously pushed against the magnetic field causing it to visibly begin to crack as small black holes began to form in the air quickly absorbing small portions of the atmosphere before collapsing on themselves causing a chain of small explosions that began to grow larger and less frequent sending Jason and Ethan flying across the laboratory.
Ethan was slammmed into the wall hitting his head as the last sight to enter his vision was the smaller black holes continuously merging forming larger ones.
‘Weird…
black holes kind of look like a portal to another world.’ He thought to himself before he passed out.
Jason was also sent flying into a wall managing to maintain his consciousness as he could see what was happening around them.
The space of the laboratory was being pulled in at a disturbing speed, as the room began to deform and the ground beneath his feet began to shake violently.
‘I have to get us out of here.” Jason said to himself as he fought through his pain and the monstrous force pulling him towards the center of the room where the machine was in an attempt to stand.
He slowly made his way towards Ethan who wasn’t too far but the force continued to become stronger and stronger actually pulling them closer together As the room began to collapse seemingly shrinking towards the growing black hole in the center.
The oddest thing Jason couldn’t get out of his head was how instead of being directly swallowed by the black hole it was only pulling everything towards itself.
Eventually he reached Ethan who still lay on the ground unconscious slowly being dragged into his own creation.
If only they knew this wasn’t only happening in this small laboratory, but also across the entire planet as it began collapsing into a single point.
Those outside could even see nearby stars and planets seemingly growing brighter and larger as the entire planet shook violently causing fault lines to crack open and volcanoes to erupt seemingly signaling the end of the world.
The longer the process went the faster it became as Jason and Ethan were the first ones to be dragged into the singularity.
On the other side Jason found himself next to an unconscious Ethan in what looked like a regular garage with the same computer hallways disassembled that they had seen.
What surprised him most was Ethan seemed to have aged in reverse and looked as if he was actually 17 and not his 41 year old coworker, and even his body felt different he no longer felt the aches in his back and knees he had felt in his mid 30’s and his body felt lighter and more robust.
He quickly began to shake Ethan “Wake up, wake up you damned fool, what the hell is going on!” He shouted as he shook his friend.
Ethan slowly came to, obviously delirious as he began to look around.
“What happ..” he began to say as his eyes opened wide.
“I actually did it.
I ACTUALLY DID IT!” He began to shout as he shook himself free from Jason’s grip beginning to jump and prance around before tripping over the disassembled computer on the floor.
“What’s all this noise about?” A female voice came from another room as the door connecting the garage and house began to open.
“Mom…” Ethan froze hearing his mother’s voice and seeing her face as tears began to well up in his eyes.
“I’m so sorry mom, I thought I would never see you again.
“What is this about?
Stop the water works, and when did you get a friend?
I have never seen this boy.” Ethan’s mother asked eying Jason trying to get a read on his character.
“I’m sorry miss, I just met Ethan last week in school last week, he said he was trying to upgrade this computer and I’ve done a few computer upgrades so I thought I would help, but things kind of went in a different direction and I got a bit too excited I’ll mind my volume.” Jason said seeing Ethan didn’t currently have a clear mind.
“This one seems to have some manners, well I’m making dinner you two come inside soon and have some food.” Ethan’s mom said as she closed the door and left the two to their devices.
“Ethan…
I know this is probably a lot right now but…
I think you might have ended the world back there…
my wife, my kids…
even your own family.” Jason said as he clenched his fist and his eyes fell to the floor.
Hearing this Ethan’s mind became a bit clearer as his blurred memories of an explosion began to come back to his mind as he remembered multiple small black holes merging together.
Ethan’s heart sank even further into his chest hearing this.
“It was supposed to be a tunnel that connected two points in time…
I’m sure I did all of the calculations correctly.” Ethan began to mumble as he felt all over his body for the notepad he kept on him at all times.
“Neither of us are wearing the same clothes, I assume both of us are wearing what we had on the day you sent us to.
Even if you did the calculations correctly I think you got too excited and forgot to account the largest factor in any equation, the unknown.” Jason said as he sat on the ground and slumped his back against the wall thinking about how screwed they were.
“Look at the bright side, at least now we don’t have to worry about assassins coming for our heads.
Maybe we can undo all of this?” Jason said seeing that his friend was deep in thought.
“I just don’t know where I went wrong, I thought it would work…
I don’t even know where to start if we want to go back, what if there is some sort of reverse butterfly effect thing where our future actions that got us here have drastically changed this world.” Ethan began to verbalize some of his thoughts as he started to realize how he might have greatly underestimated how much of the universe humanity truly didn’t understand or comprehend.
In that moment a single boom was heard outside the garage as if a powerful lightning strike had caused thunder to rumble through the sky and the house walls to momentarily shake.
“What was that?
I don’t think it should be raining today.” Ethan asked as he began to reach up to press the button that opened the garage door.
Just as the garage door was opening a streak of blue light could be seen flashing under the garage door as a man began to materialize in front of the two boys.
He wore a tan suit with a black tie looking like a suave business man with his golden hair combed backwards and a light scruff on his perfectly proportioned face.
The boys wanted to shout or say something but the pressure and aura radiating from this man was too great.
It reminded them of how vastly insignificant humans were as if they were ants in the face of a mountain.
The other thing that kept their mouths shut was the familiarity with this man’s appearance and aura, he was the CEO and founder of the company they did research under.
“You two…
I can’t even be upset with what you two have done but you need to know, time should never be trifled with.
I guess I am even partly responsible, maybe this is what I wanted but it’s too late to change anything.
I am Jupiter, more commonly known as Zeus the milky way galaxy is under my jurisdiction and it seems that it no longer exist…” “Only this planet and a single star and moon exist outside of that it seems as if we are now in some type of void space…
what’s more this planet and the star local to us seem to have grown larger to an infinite degree from a human perspective.
I came here because I felt high energy fluctuations, energy fluctuations on a level I have never felt before coming from this location and the residual energy seems to have already caught the eyes and attention of some big fish.” Zeus said leaving the two dumbfounded as they gazed at each other.
