After a few moments of thought Ethan finally spoke up, “I don’t think it is a bad idea, maybe we can figure a way to ease into our relationship.
I don’t know which of us would actually be taking on the larger risk in a relationship like this.” He said sharing his thoughts truthfully causing the captain to blink a few times as she thought about the words she’d just heard.
“If you still don’t completely trust me I understand, remember I told you my superiors told me to bring in new recruits well it’s actually coming from higher than my department head even.
I was told you two have already met the person these orders have come from if that gives the two of you any solace I know you two ended up in this situation because of the price of meeting that man face to face without any dampeners.” Captain Aria said causing a wave of relief to rush through the two boys bodies.
“Wait so you’re telling me this is what he meant when he said he would help us get whatever we needed?” Jason said surprised by the captains statement.
‘Was all of the questioning a test?
Didn’t he say we shouldn’t rely on him either?’ Jason thought to himself trying to wrap his mind around this entire situation.
“I believe so, I wasn’t given all of the details as I was told that what you two are involved in is far beyond my pay grade, and I am also under strict orders to provide you two with resources and I am to submit a request for any materials or items you may need in order to procure it for you two.” The captain said as her and Jack both sat in the seats by the bed.
“I don’t know what you two are involved in, but honestly I’m scared to even ask questions when I heard who it was coming from I didn’t actually believe it until I saw how serious my superiors were.” She added while taking a seat.
“Uhm…
who are you guys talking about?
I am kind of lost, you know what caused the boys to end up in the hospital like this.” Jack questioned unable to contain his curiosity.
Now it was time for the captain and the two boys to exchange glances as they thought how to explain this without involving him too deeply.
“Come on just what the hell is going on?
Is the world ending or something there’s already enough strange things going on that are hard enough to believe why are you holding back now ?” He added seeing them exchanging glances unwilling to speak.
“Think of it like this Mr.
Harper I work for the federal investigations department, above us there is the department of defense, above them is the president, and above them is what we refer to as the divine court that issues orders and relays messages that are directly from what we humans know as a god.
I don’t think I have the authority to tell you anymore than that, if the boys wish I’m sure they have more freedom to speak on it than I do given the situation but this situation is probably more than either of us can imagine currently” the captain spoke seeing the boys in deep thought.
“Dad I think it’s best if you don’t know..
we will do everything we can to try to turn things back to normal..
I’m sorry.” Ethan said in a low voice with his head down as tears could be seen falling down his face as he couldn’t help but blame himself for everything that was currently going on.
He didn’t want his family to blame him as well and turn against him if they found out.
Hearing all of this Jack was dumbfounded, he was still coming to grips with the fact that people with superpowers actually existed and now hearing that the government was essentially under the orders of a god his mind was in complete disarray after putting some points together he could only assume that the two boys had somehow met this god face to face and this is what got them in their current situation.
“In a while a few of my trained men will be standing outside on guard until you guys are released, and they will transport you to your new home near our facility in D.C.
I still have people I need to interview and a few interrogations so I will be meeting you guys there, my men will also bring you some government work devices and if there is anything you need they will be able to retrieve it for you unless they need to come to me so I can put in a budget increase request.
I have to go now I will see you guys soon though.” The captain said as she stood up and headed out of the room.
After the captain left Jack slumped down in his seat still trying to process all of this new information.
“What’s going to happen to my job?
Will I really be working for the government now?” He questioned lowly as his thoughts were leaking out.
“I think we should keep practicing, her coming to us like that only means things are moving much faster than we initially thought we still don’t even know how much we can trust that person, what are his intentions he might even be trying to save his own skin.” Jason said looking at Ethan who only nodded knowing his friend was right.
Not long after a nurse had come taking both boys vitals as they continued to practice controlling the energy diligently.
And before the sun had completely set another knock came on the door, captain Aria had sent four of her men to stand guard two at each door.
They delivered the work phones alongside a set of sweatsuits perfectly tailored to the boys sizes and badges that indicated they had top secret clearances.
They also gave their father a phone and uniform alongside a badge with no security clearance indications.
The boys quickly loaded Java onto the phones and used their technical prowess to remove any tracking or monitoring software that was on the devices before eventually linking both devices so they acted like one phone allowing them to share text, phone calls, and notes with each other just by having the phones turned on.
Most importantly it allowed them to contact each other working like walkie talkies.
They continued practicing the movement of the energy into the night until eventually they fell asleep and a new day was upon them.
Jason and Ethan both woke up feeling better than ever it was like they had woken up in an entirely new body as there was no soreness or fatigue they had felt the day prior.
Jack was still sound asleep when the boys had woke up so they decided to get together to run some small experiments and share notes on their experience.
“So when I move the energy in this specific way, it allows me to slightly make things levitate I still don’t know the complete range but I think it’s either telekinesis or a spatial interaction.” Jason said after explaining in depth to Ethan the specific pattern he was using to move the energy around his body.
“Interesting, I’ve been trying to incorporate my breathing with the motion of energy I’m practicing and I still don’t know how it effects or is able to interact with the outside world but it might be best if I stick to what I have been practicing until I find out its effects, maybe we could also incorporate portions of each others method into our own to see what it might effect.” Ethan said while still reading through the notes on his phone and adding more to make it more detailed.
“In your notes you stated that the more you practiced your method things in the outside world seemed to be going slower, maybe your somehow enhancing the speed your brain is able to process information causing the world to seem slower?” Jason said while looking at Ethan’s notes wondering just what kind of ability he was awakening.
At this moment Jack started to wake up and could see the boys sitting on the same bed together.
“What are you two doing up so early don’t you guys need to recover still?” He said groggily as he began to stretch and rub his tired eyes.
“Were fine, we were just trying to figure out what the internal energy can do, the Captain said you and mom could feel it too have you guys been able to figure anything out about it?” Ethan asked curious if his parents had tried anything.
“No, we only noticed it seemed like a new limb, I tried moving it which wasn’t too difficult but it kind of felt like trying to learn to write with my weak hand so I gave up maybe your mother has tried to do more with it.” Jack said obviously not too interested in giving it a try.
“You might want to try some type of rhythmic movement with that new limb of yours it could make a big difference, also if you do try it would help us a lot if you could give us some detailed notes on how you do your practice and the results, hand me your phone really quick.” Jason said while using his low level of mastery to shakily lift a bottle of water and jacks phone into the air handing the water to him as he grabbed the phone and began tinkering and connecting it to his and Ethan’s.
Seeing this jacks eyes became wide as another shock was happening.
“Y-you have powers too!
Like the captain, h-how?
Have powers like this always existed?
Jack began to let out some of the questions he had wanted to ask Aria but the gravity of the government position she held was holding him back.
“I don’t know if powers like this always existed, but we learned that specific movements of the energy can garner different results, that’s why I said you should practice a set rhythm and pattern of movements so maybe we could understand some kind of system of how it works.” Jason said as Jack grabbed the water bottle and began to scarf it down.
“Alright kid, you got me I’ll give it a try and give you two all of the information, I know that lady said we can trust her but I’m going to be honest with you boys, the fact that so much is unknown with those people and they are involved with the government I don’t know how much I really trust them.
I’m only going along with this because I know if there really is some super hero or villain uprising it’s better to have the stronger people on your side, and I still don’t know who or what is actually stronger.” Jack said as he got up and began to stretch as if he were going to start a workout.
“Last night 3 men apparently flew into the Chicago art museum and stole many classic art pieces again we ask that the public help they authorities with any information…
