Not long after the lightning strike shook the sky the slight tremors in the ground could be felt in the ground and loud booms sounded in the distance reminiscent of loud controlled explosions.

The driver began to speed up upon receiving Zero’s message.

As the car streaked through the rain confidently picking up speed due to the sheer weight of the military grade humvee.Full novel: Aevum: The Birth Of Everything — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Our primary objective here is to move our new recruits to our primary base in DC.

Fog and Las you 2 are on moving guard, I will stay with the pawns and catch back up.” Knight Prio ordered as the truck sped up.

Fog and Las took action quickly, they opened the door against the wind and stepped out, Fogs entire body dissipated shrouding the entire truck in what seemed to be a white cloud.

Las seemed the jump out of the humvee in a full spring easily matching it’s speed traveling around 112kph.

At the same time Knight Prio opened the latch on the roof of the humvee and climbed on the roof and walking to the end of the humvee before casually falling off the edge landing perfectly still.

“That guys always a show off whenever he feels like good, he’s got to know by now that isn’t good for his health.” The driver said after hearing is slow footsteps along the roof having a good idea of what he was doing.

After seeing all of this Ethan’s mind was blown.

“How long does the history of the FBSA organization even go?

Didn’t the world only change like last week how are humans already this strong?” He questioned out loud.

Hearing this the driver glanced in the mirror for a second before looking back through the windshield to make sure he was still following the correct route.

“Kid, the FBSA is as old as human civilization, who do you think were the leaders that made surviving past eras even remotely possible, it damn sure wasn’t ‘Alexander the Great’ or any other ancient world leaders.

Remember every hand in the light cast a hand in the shadow.

If someone weren’t there to pick up the pieces or leave a trail of breadcrumbs for every incompetent world leader do you think humans would have ever made it beyond the forest outside of their villages?

Humanity needs God, and if we feel like there’s more he can do, we take it upon ourselves to do it maybe ease his burden because no one must feel the type of pain he experiences.” The driver spoke with conviction as if he was bearing his heart on his sleeve for a moment.

Hearing this Ethan couldn’t help but remember meeting Zeus, what looked like a human being appearing in a flash of lightning before his very eyes.

Now this man’s words.

“Humanity needs what God?” Ethan asked wondering if the man was talking about the deity he had encountered.

“The Almighty One.” The driver said as the clouds began to break apart ahead of them and the rain lightened for a few seconds before closing and returning to a storm.

Seeing this Ethan, Jason and Jack couldn’t help but blink a few times as Ethan and Jason exchanged glances before pulling out their phones to communicate on the encrypted text line they created.

‘You saw the clouds open up briefly too after he said the almighty one?

Why didn’t Zeus mention some sort of almighty one?’ ~Ethan ‘Yea, I saw it still it’s hard to believe.

This past week has felt like the longest fever dream I’m already tired of it honestly.

It’s like we traveled back in time and the entire world is insane.

But if it’s like this I’m guessing religion has always been one of humanities greatest cultural heritages it would make sense if peoples beliefs in God being different caused Gods form to change according to their beliefs, and the ‘almighty one’ probably refers to the One true god,’ ~Jason ‘Woah, yea I don’t really know how to take all of these changes in either.

I just know it’s my own fault..

so I have to figure out a way to fix the problem I created.

Also if that’s the case wouldn’t religion probably play some type of role in humanity suddenly becoming more like gods?’ ~Ethan ‘Honestly reading that makes me think trying to undo what’s already been don’t is kind of paradoxical, but I already tagged along for the ride I know it could get worse but I always wondered what a world full of mythical and hero like people would be like.

I agree, they’re probably deep in the tracks of the FBSA how can some heartfelt words of the convoy driver make the sky open up when it’s supposed to be a demonic storm or something.’ ~Jason At the same time they were messaging things were beginning to ramp up outside the humvee as impacts could be heard outside of the truck every now and then.

“Give me some information of the situation out there, we’re about 15 minutes from the exit can you guys hold out?” The driver spoke into a walkee talkee strapped to the trucks dashboard.

“Las, The pawns had formed a line of defense along the sides of the highway to secure the path, but it was useless the road ahead is flooded.

I don’t know what these things are they look like ghost or spirits of some sort, they are attacking up and flooding into the highway we can hit them but they just don’t die.” Las spoke into her headset while hurdling the truck from side to side stopping any spirits from directly impacting their travel.

Hearing this the driver began to let off the pedal somewhat in preparation to drive into deeper waters.

A few seconds later the humvee crashed through the water sending reverberations through the vehicle to everyone inside.

“You boys hold on now, this might get rough for a little bit.” The driver spoke as he pressed a button on the humvee that caused a whirring noise to appear below the vehicle.

The back wheels expanded outwards and two propellers dropped into the water alongside a tail fin for maneuverability allowing it to glide across the water like a boat.

Fog seeing the situation had dispersed the fog cloud as soon as the humvee reached the water moving to assist Las and the other pawns in defending the humvee from the onslaught of spirits.

“What the hell are those things?” Jack asked his eyes wide at the sight of whatever they were protecting them from.

They were almost translucent with a misty aura of a normal human.

Their eyes glowed with a fiery red and their movements were far too fast for him to track clearly.

Some stood stationary while other rushed the moving humvee like savage beast.

Las fought kicking the spirits back slowing their approach and using the momentum to latch onto the onto the humvee before jumping back into action repeating like this the fatigue was starting to show as sweat was draining down her face and her breathing looked labored.

Fog was slightly better off able to turn himself into fog and freely move around the moving humvee and knock back a few more enemies before returning to his regular form and gather himself on the truck to plan his course of action.

The pawns that had been placed were up ahead seemingly running on the water and the air just like it was the same as solid ground while clearing a path.

“I don’t know but if I had to guess it’s an army of lower and mid level vengeful spirits.

No creature would die peacefully if its life had been taken from it unrighteously.

But this, I haven’t heard any stories of there being armies of them..” the driver spoke as he voice trailed off and he focused.

The pawns were getting closer in sight and they just passed the one mile to exit sign.

It looked like Las was giving her all but holding on by a thread, and fog was no better off haven taken out about 3 spirits to each one las defeated because of his increased mobility as they drove through the flooded highway.

As they got to where the pawns Zero had assigned they could see that there were far more spirits than they had initially thought.

By this time Las and Fog’s efficiency had truly began to wane as the driver was forced to ram into some of the spirit, and still this wasn’t the worst of the problems.

Some of the spirits seemed to be completely invulnerable to physical attacks as they began to phase into the truck it was seems that physical attacks don’t work on them but their actions definitely effected all of them present.

The pawns dispersed and also latched onto the humvee adopting the strategy Las was using earlier but fore more effectively being able to step on the air.

The biggest problem was the ones that were invulnerable to physical attacks because they would phase through the car and the attacks of the defenders causing a greater energy loss and intense waste of effort.

The ones that got into the humvee began to assault the minds of Jason Jack, Ethan and the driver as they phased in their bodies attempting to dominate their mind and their soul.

‘I will take back everything I lost!

Humans are despicable, I will teach them the error in their ways!

False gods, liars, humans are just demons.’ The Voices of the spirits echoed into their minds causing intense pain making them grip their heads and their chest.

The only one slightly composed under this assault was the driver, “We at the FBSA have honestly not ever had to deal with too many otherworldly creatures like this, we normally find ourselves combatting other groups is higher level humans, but this seems like some form of mental attack control your breathing and focus your thoughts were taught to remember our greater purpose for what we do, and that is too make sure humans don’t end up like this as vengeful spirits!” The driver spoke delivering another speech.

But his words seemed to empower those inside and outside the humvee, as a wave of relief washed through them like the spirits attacking them had felt it relaxed slightly in their assault.

It was only brief enough for them to process what he had said, but the extra energy they felt from his words was undeniable.

They began to try to center their thoughts as they multitasked between fighting off the pain and keeping the spirits they could touch away.

The exit was over a hill pulling them out of the flooded area as the end of an abrupt storm could be seen in the sunlight ahead.

The humvee began to shift back into driving mode as the additional parts receded back into the vehicle and the flared out wheels began to lower back into place.

“Everyone hang on!

We’re getting out of this one!” The driver shouted as the vehicle coasted from gliding on the water to catching suddenly on the pavement causing the wheels to slightly swerve before a new acceleration was felt dragging everyone along as the humvee sped up.
