“Good god…” the driver said as everyone began to open the doors climbing in as quickly as possible while the driver rammed through the rest of the spirits that he could.
Everyone got in the car and climbed over one another.
They sat just about anywhere with no regard for personal space panting, hot and sweaty.
Still even after this Jack, Ethan and Jason didn’t say a word for a few minutes.
“What the hell is going on here, when did humanity unlock the doomsday scenario?” Jack spoke breaking the gloomy silence that permeated the air.
Hearing this most of the people couldn’t help but internally shake their heads while relaxing a bit realizing at least they were still in this together.
At the same time that they were heading over the exit knight Prio a few miles back on the road could also see the light rays from the Sun beginning to peak over the world in the distance.
“All of that guys skills are so insane honestly it’s just that they take so long for him to use.” He said as he observed the world around him.
That’s when he saw a shadow flicker in the distance knowing it was truly something and not simply his imagination he went after it immediately.
Running down the highway in the direction it went at a blazing speed before jumping off the side into a brush of forest.
Now he could see the figure clearly zipping through the forest, there wasn’t muck light due to the great overcast storm but the small amount of light peaking over the horizon was of great benefit.
Alongside the training they went through to help train their eyes to see better at all times he could make out that it was a humanoid figure as he continued to gain ground on his target.
“I’ve got you!” knight Prio said as he went to grab the target only for him to stumble as he hand went directly through the figure while he felt an intense numbing pain flash through his arm as he attempted to touch the figure.
He used the momentum he had as he stumbled to launch his body into a front flip where he jumped over the figure making sure not to come into contact with it, only for naught.
The figure that was fleeing saw all of this, “Foolish human.” The creature said as it raised its hand up and through Knight Prio’s leg mid jump grabbing it and throwing him into the brush of trees causing many loud and painful sounds.
He crashed directly through multiple trees feeling excruciating pain as he could hear some of his ribs crack along side the bone crushing sound of a tree being blown through on impact.
He continued thrashing through the brush before slamming into the final tree that stopped his momentum launching what little breath he had in him out sending him unconscious.
He wasn’t unconscious for more than a few seconds as his brain flared reminding his body of the current life or death situation he found himself in.
He gasped back to life, and could see the figure approaching him now that he could see it clearly.
It was the pale figure of a woman, with a ghostly aura almost translucent.
Still, he could see clearly if beauty was a woman she was standing directly in front of him in this moment.
“Don’t speak.” The ghostly woman spoke as she looked deeply at the face of the man in front of her.
She inspected his body as if she could see his pulsating heart and directly into his soul.
Hearing her again, Knight Prio noted how gentle her voice was, along side the energy it carried.
It was a feeling that made him not only want to relax but also deeply afraid.
“Who are you?” Knight Prio managed to break the invisible chains of silence despite feeling deeply exposed to this woman as her penetrating gaze inspected him.
“You disgusting creature, you are the reason I will never forgive humanity!” She shouted as she flew towards him faster than she had been running away from him.
With his adrenaline pumping through his blood he mustered enough strength to move out of the way a bit expecting something like this, while also reaching up to his collar pressing a button on the collar of his uniform.
Almost just as the button was pressed a golden light dropped down from the sky like a spotlight shining onto Knight Prio.
As soon as the beam of light touched him his body began to heal at an astonishing speed while also helping clear his mind.
The ghastly beauty had also been caught in a slight portion of the light actually causing her cloak to catch fire briefly which made her shriek in pain.
Seeing this knight Prio used this slight energy boost to create more distance between him and the woman while the light tracked and followed his every movement.
“This is why!
You always choose them over me!
This is why I hate all of you!” The woman shouted as tears could be seen running down her ghostly face before she turned around and fled at a speed that knight Prio could hardly track.
Seeing this knight Prio’s body completely relaxed as she disappeared from his sight and the beam of light remained hovering over him.
I’m his slumber he could feel a cold flat surface appear under him as he opened his eyes slightly fighting his sleep to see what or who was near him.
“Relax Prio, let’s get out of here.” A familiar woman’s voice said, as he could feel his body being lifted into the air and dragged along.
Back in the humvee the driver began to speak, do a quick head count, I did not see Knight Prio return, also give me everyone of your status physically so I can send a report.
The road ahead was clear, it was like making it to the end of a bad dream when the feeling of nothing becomes so much better than the terror they had just endured.
“We’ve got 8 pawns back here not including Jason, Jack, and Ethan.
No injuries aside from a few scrapes and bruises but we’re spent if something else happens it’s in your hands.” Las spoke after ever hearing everyone and getting them in order.
After delivering this message her and the other female pawn climbed up to the front seat not that they had got their breath back and cooled off a bit.
Slowly over the next few minutes the only thing that could be heard in the humvee was deep breath and snoring aside from the driver.
The driver sent in his report before turning the radio to some low music, and they drove into the sunset.
“It’s the moments like these that I’ve always lived for, the moment where I know it’s still okay.
We’re going to have to work way harder if we want to actually make it through these coming days.” The driver spoke his thoughts leaking out as he felt an overwhelming relief.
“Hey do you know if Knight Prio is okay?” Jack spoke from the backseat seeming to have managed to stay awake as well.
“He should be fine, remember he stayed in the bishops effective range so he’s not alone even if no one is physically there with him if something bad happened we would have gotten word by now.” The driver spoke as he continued to look at the beautiful scene in front of him.
The sky faded into its different hues before the stars began to peak through its veil and light the world up in a new way.
Jason and Ethan had woke up when it was night time looking into the sky themselves.
“How are the stars still there?” Ethan asked as he looked up.
Jason hearing this looked over at Ethan raising an eye or and pointing to his phones.
Ethans eyes went wide before putting his hand to his face in embarrassment ‘I don’t know, maybe it because how light travels, if that’s the case it will be a while before it’s dark outside, but that wouldn’t explain the sun still appearing.
The only plausible explanation is we broke reality and now the world and the universe itself has gone crazy.’ ~Jason ‘The world itself has gone crazy?” ~Ethan questioned.
‘Think of it like this most people would say someone with visual hallucinations has gone crazy, so if the universe goes crazy it would probably turn the reality we know into disarray.’ ~Jason ‘Like if the universe was conscious but asleep and we forcibly made it travel back in time we could possibly snap that consciousness awake or into activity?’ ~Ethan.
‘I didn’t think about it like that but that’s definitely something that could possibly make someone go crazy at least I might if I fell asleep and woke up billions of years in the past reliving the eternity I already lived.’ ~Jason ‘God, I really did a number this time, I’m never making it to a happy afterlife I get too curious.’ ~Ethan ‘Haha you got that one right!
But you should save your complaining until after you’ve explored and learned everything there is to learn about this new world for all we know the universe could have replicated and overlapped two separate realities.
One where things like crazy people with super powers were real and one where it wasn’t, I know you’re thinking about him saying that the earth is much larger than it once was but who’s to say the stars and the rest of the universe also isn’t much larger than it once was.’ ~Jason ‘I had thought about that, but we need proof.
I guess in the end only time will tell.’ ~Ethan ‘Just make sure you keep letting it go forward so the end can actually happen one day.’ ~Jason After this little exchange they continued to look into the night sky which was more alive than they had ever remembered it slowly dozing off back into the world of the unconscious.
