“If you don’t give me an explanation today, I’ll smash your shop!”

The man shouted angrily at Lin Yao.

This cake shop was Lin Yao’s heart and soul, the only thing she owned now. No matter who it was, Lin Yao would never let anyone destroy it!

“Yesterday you said your mother was hospitalized after eating my cake, but when I asked you which hospital so I could go check and verify if it was really because of the cake, and if so, I would take full responsibility—you didn’t tell me the hospital’s location.”

“You hung up directly. When I called again, you blocked me. I even sent you a text, but you didn’t reply. This morning, I even called you again, but you didn’t answer.”

“Now you bring people straight here, still wanting to smash my shop. Without any test results, you’re pinning it on me. Your intentions are so obvious anyone can guess them!”

Lin Yao loudly recounted yesterday’s events, just to make sure these people didn’t believe him.

“Oh dear, isn’t this just wanting compensation?”

“Exactly! She already said she’d take responsibility if it was because of the cake, but she won’t even say which hospital—definitely trying to scam money!”

“That’s right!”

“Just wants money!”

But the man wasn’t flustered at all; he even smiled somewhat triumphantly, as if he had been waiting for Lin Yao to say exactly that.

Not good.

Seeing his smile, Lin Yao knew she had fallen into his trap.

The man took out a medical record book and held it up high: “Isn’t it test results you want? This is the test result the hospital gave for my mother!”

“It clearly states it was caused by food poisoning from eating stale food!”

After saying this, he threw the medical record book at Lin Yao.

“Take a good look! Don’t try to deny it again!”

She had originally thought it was just an allergy, but now he was saying it was food poisoning. Food poisoning and allergies couldn’t be compared.

Once word got out about food poisoning, no one would come to her shop to buy anything again.

Lin Yao’s hands trembled as she picked up the medical record book. Opening it, she saw it indeed said food poisoning.

Impossible!

She still didn’t believe it.

How could it be food poisoning when all the ingredients she used were fresh?!

“Impossible, all my ingredients are fresh.”

“Can you be sure your mother only ate my cake and didn’t eat anything else?”

“Many people ordered cakes yesterday, but only you had a problem.”

Lin Yao persisted, unwilling to give up. Even though the medical record said food poisoning, she hadn’t seen the results with her own eyes and couldn’t fully trust this medical record in front of her.

“Hah! What? You don’t want to admit it?!”

“You asked for test results, I gave them, and now you still want to weasel out?”

The man pointed angrily at Lin Yao’s face, as if he wished he could kill her.

At Huo Corporation,

Qin Hao, recalling the scene he had just witnessed, pushed the door open and entered.

“Mr. Huo, Madam might be in trouble.”

Huo Boyan finally looked up from his documents and motioned for him to continue.

“On my way back after delivering documents to Director Zhu, I saw a lot of people gathered around Madam’s cake shop. It seems someone got sick from eating her cake and is causing trouble for her.”

Qin Hao recounted everything he had seen in detail, then waited for Mr. Huo’s response.

“Something went wrong with the cake?”

Huo Boyan recalled the cake Lin Yao had brought for the old man. He had eaten some of it too. Although it couldn’t compare to high-end cake shops in taste, it was still quite good—sweet but not cloying.

“Go investigate what exactly happened and give me the results within half an hour.”

In the food business, the most important thing is the freshness of the ingredients. Lin Yao certainly knew this, so Huo Boyan believed she wouldn’t use stale ingredients to make the cake.

That left only one possibility: someone was deliberately causing trouble for her.

Huo Boyan took out his phone and called her, but no one answered.

This woman isn’t even answering her phone!

He grabbed his suit jacket, intending to have the driver take him over to check on the situation, when Qin Hao returned.

“Mr. Huo, I’ve found out.”

Lin Yao knew the medical report had been issued, but she had reason to suspect it was fake.

“If it really was caused by the cake, I won’t deny responsibility. But I wasn’t present for this examination, so I don’t trust the results.”

“Besides, there’s no way to know if your mother ate anything else before having the cake.”

“So, could you come with me to the hospital for another examination? I’ll pay for it. If it really turns out to be because of the cake, I’ll compensate you however much you want!”

The man burst into laughter after hearing this. “Another examination? The results are already in your hands! And you still refuse to admit it!”

“Who cares about your measly money!”

“There’s no way we’re doing another examination. Today, I’m definitely smashing this shop!”

“Brothers, let’s go! Smash this black-hearted shop and get revenge for my mom!”

As soon as the man finished speaking, the people who had come with him pulled out tools, ready to smash up the shop.

The onlookers immediately scattered, afraid of getting hurt.

Lin Yao couldn’t just stand by and watch her shop get destroyed. She immediately rushed to the entrance, spreading her arms to block them from entering.

“Let’s see who dares to smash it!”

“If you dare, I’ll call the police!”

But the man with the club didn’t take her seriously at all. He raised the club, aiming to strike her head.

Even so, Lin Yao stood motionless at the entrance, only closing her eyes in fear. Yet the expected pain never came.

Lin Yao immediately opened her eyes and saw that the club had been caught by a large hand just inches from her head.

It was Huo Boyan!

What was he doing here?!

Lin Yao stared at him in a daze, completely stunned. Qin Hao quickly pulled her aside to stand next to Huo Boyan, while the man with the club was pushed away.

“Are you an idiot?? You didn’t even try to dodge!”

Huo Boyan’s expression was extremely grim, his face dark.

“I didn’t react in time just now,” Lin Yao explained guiltily.

Huo Boyan gave her a cold glance, and Qin Hao immediately signaled for the bodyguards who had come with them to surround the area, preventing anyone from getting closer.

“Let’s see who dares to smash it!”

Huo Boyan stared expressionlessly at the man standing in the center.

The man couldn’t help but break into a cold sweat. Having been in this line of work for so many years, he certainly recognized the man before him.

If he had known this woman was backed by Huo Boyan, he would never have taken this job, even if it meant death.

“Haha, this might just be a misunderstanding,” the man said with an apologetic smile, hoping they would let them go.

“A misunderstanding?”

Huo Boyan’s tone was calm.

But the man sensed the implication in his words, his hands trembling with fear.

Qin Hao, standing nearby, produced a document and declared loudly:

“Yesterday, you ordered a cake here. After eating it, you went to an unknown small clinic and had a doctor issue you a medical record for food poisoning.”

“And the person lying there isn’t your mother—she’s just an actress you hired to play the part!”
