The man, seeing that his scheme had been exposed, was so frightened that he knelt down before Huo Boyan, pleading, “Mr. Huo, I was wrong! Please let me off this time!”

“I promise I’ll never bother her again! Please let me off this time!”

Huo Boyan sneered coldly, his gaze sharp as a blade as he looked at the man and said, “Let you off? That’s not impossible—as long as you tell me who sent you to do this, I’ll consider letting you go. The man initially thought Huo Boyan had agreed, and a smile began to spread across his face. But upon hearing the second half of the sentence, his expression immediately fell, and he looked utterly distressed.

“Mr. Huo, there are rules in our line of work—we can’t reveal our clients’ names. If I tell you, I won’t be able to survive in this business!”

The old woman, who had been lying down, immediately sat up upon hearing that the man refused to reveal the employer. Ignoring everyone present, she tried to run away.

But she hadn’t gotten far before she was caught by the bodyguards Huo Boyan had brought.

“Since you’re not planning to talk, Qin Hao, call the police. Let them handle this!”

The man shouted, “No, I’ll talk! I’ll talk!”

“It was a woman who called. I don’t know who she is. I only took the job because she paid well!”

The man didn’t dare tell the whole truth. The Huo family was not to be trifled with, but the Su family was no pushover either! He could only reveal a little, hoping Huo Boyan would let them go.

Huo Boyan glanced at Qin Hao, who immediately understood and went to make a phone call.

A woman?

Lin Yao, standing nearby, thought about it. She hadn’t provoked anyone recently. Who could it be?

It seemed that aside from competitors, there shouldn’t be anyone else.

Soon, the police arrived and took the troublemakers away. The onlookers, seeing there was no more drama to watch, also dispersed.

In a corner, a beautiful woman stood watching the scene. It was Su Yuqing.

Damn it!

What tricks does this Lin Yao have up her sleeve to make Boyan drop everything at the company and rush over here so quickly for her?

Fortunately, that man didn’t have the guts to reveal her!

If Boyan found out she was behind this, he would never speak to her again!

“How did you know about this?” Lin Yao asked, looking at Huo Boyan’s cold expression.

Qin Hao, who had just returned, immediately answered, “I happened to see it and told Mr. Huo. He was worried something might happen to you, so he rushed over as soon as he heard.”

Huo Boyan gave Qin Hao a cool, indifferent glance, and Qin Hao immediately realized he had spoken out of turn, feeling deeply regretful.

“Regardless, thank you, Mr. Huo!”

Lin Yao thanked him sincerely. If he hadn’t arrived in time, her shop might have been wrecked by these people.

“Mr. Huo?”

Huo Boyan’s attention was solely on Lin Yao’s use of that title. Was she really that afraid of him?

Lin Yao then remembered they were in public and shouldn’t be so formal with him. Just as she was about to apologize, the man in front of her spoke.

“Call me Boyan from now on.”

Lin Yao was momentarily taken aback but quickly nodded in agreement.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

An indescribable awkwardness hung in the air.

Lin Yao didn’t know what to say, and Huo Boyan was not a man of many words.

Just then, a police officer approached and asked Lin Yao to come with them to give a statement, effectively breaking the tension between the two.

“If anything comes up in the future, tell me and I’ll handle it.” Huo Boyan left after just that one sentence.

But he didn’t know that this was the first time Lin Yao had ever heard such words, making her heart feel warm with an indescribable sensation.

Her phone showed several missed calls, all from Huo Boyan an hour earlier.

As soon as Huo Boyan returned home, he caught the aroma of cooked food.

“You’re back? Let’s eat.”

Lin Yao had left work early today specifically to cook for Huo Boyan, to thank him for helping her earlier.

Looking at the four dishes and one soup on the table and Lin Yao standing before him with a smiling face, Huo Boyan knew she had prepared the meal.

Aunt Li’s cooking didn’t look this unappealing.

“Young Master, Madam made all of this herself—she spent the whole afternoon on it. You should try it.”

Aunt Li took Huo Boyan’s coat, speaking happily on Lin Yao’s behalf, unaware of Lin Yao’s true purpose for making this meal.

Lin Yao felt a bit embarrassed at Aunt Li’s words. “It didn’t take the whole afternoon.”

Without a word, Huo Boyan sat down, picked up his chopsticks, and took a piece of braised pork. Surprisingly, it tasted even better than Aunt Li’s version.

“How is it? Does it taste okay?”

Lin Yao sat across from him, her eyes sparkling as she waited for his answer.

“It tastes good.”

“If it’s good, then eat more!”

Lin Yao said happily, her heart feeling sweet.

Braised pork was her specialty dish. In the past, Chen Dong had only ever liked her braised pork.

He said Lin Yao’s braised pork was the best in the world—no one could compare.

Thinking of Chen Dong, Lin Yao’s mood suddenly sank.

“You don’t need to do these things in the future.”

Huo Boyan’s abrupt remark pulled Lin Yao’s thoughts back.

“What? Doesn’t it taste good?”

Lin Yao looked at him anxiously.

“No, it’s just that Aunt Li can handle these things from now on. You don’t need to do all this because of what happened today.”

Huo Boyan knew she had prepared these dishes because of the day’s events.

For some reason, Lin Yao sensed that Huo Boyan seemed a little angry, so she quickly explained earnestly.

“I really wanted to thank you! You’ve helped me so much, and I don’t have anything else to offer, so I could only cook.”

Huo Boyan fell silent, an indescribable feeling slowly growing within him.

Everything around was a vast expanse of white, with nothing visible at all.

Where is this?

Why am I here?

“Yao Yao.”

It was Chen Dong’s voice, but Lin Yao couldn’t see him anywhere.

“Yao Yao.”

Chen Dong’s voice sounded again.

“Chen Dong, is that you?”

Lin Yao shouted anxiously.

“It’s me.”

Chen Dong, dressed entirely in white, suddenly appeared before Lin Yao.

Lin Yao: “Where is this? Why are you here?”

Instead of answering her question, Chen Dong questioned her.

“Why did you marry him?”

“Didn’t you say you would only ever marry me in this lifetime?”

His questioning instantly brought tears to Lin Yao’s eyes, and she shouted back at him indignantly.

“You betrayed me first!”

“You were the one who broke up with me.”

As soon as Lin Yao finished speaking, the scene from the day Chen Dong broke up with her suddenly appeared before her eyes—the moment he kissed that other woman right in front of her.

“Look! You betrayed me first!”

Lin Yao pointed at them as she spoke to Chen Dong.

“Why did you marry him?”

“Didn’t you say you would only ever marry me in this lifetime?”

Chen Dong didn’t even look at the person Lin Yao pointed at, instead repeating the same question to her over and over.

“You were the one who betrayed me first. Didn’t you also say you’d marry no one but me?”

“Do promises only matter when you love me?”

Lin Yao screamed in despair.

But Chen Dong paid no attention to her words, continuing to shout on his own.

Countless versions of Chen Dong even appeared, all questioning Lin Yao.

“Why did you marry him?”

“Why did you marry him?”

“Why did you marry him?”
