“Ah? It’s fine, I’m okay.”
“Ziyan is… a bit mischievous, Pei Zhou is young… and inexperienced, Chen Li he…” Shen Ci’s words trailed off. These troublesome friends of his really made him struggle to find the right Chinese words.
He could roughly guess why Feng Ziyan had taken the opportunity to act out.
From their observations over this period, they’d discovered that Jiang Wanyin didn’t just have a strong reaction to Shen Ci’s touch.
She reacted the same way to all men.
They’d happened to run into a psychologist yesterday, and Shen Ci had briefly consulted him—all of them had overheard.
The doctor said that if the condition was mild, one could either provide a sense of security through long-term companionship, or fight fire with fire.
Shen Ci hadn’t asked for details on how to fight fire with fire, but these three had taken the words at face value and gone a bit “overboard.”
Feng Ziyan was restless by nature—he’d flirted with all kinds of women abroad without any sense of responsibility, with an open-minded attitude.
Pei Zhou’s reaction was somewhat unexpected to Shen Ci. He’d known Pei Zhou for two years but didn’t know much about his romantic history.
“No, it’s nothing. Thank you, President Shen.”
Jiang Wanyin quickly responded. Mischievous—that was a word used to describe children.
“Mm, please bear with them… and, be careful… of your safety.”
Shen Ci chatted with her a bit more, until the alcohol seemed to hit him, and he closed his eyes—whether asleep or just resting, she couldn’t tell.
After driving for over half an hour, they finally arrived at the hotel Shen Ci had mentioned.
Jiang Wanyin got out of the car. The night breeze was slightly cool, blowing away some of her frustration. A working girl still had to keep doing her job.
She opened the rear door. President Shen’s serene, handsome face was even more captivating under the moonlight.
“President Shen. President Shen.”
Jiang Wanyin leaned down and gently patted the man’s shoulder. His eyelids fluttered slightly.
This was the first time she’d been this close to Shen Ci, nearly face-to-face. His long, curled lashes trembled enticingly.
His beautiful blue eyes gazed quietly at her, shimmering with a brilliant galaxy she’d never seen before.
Her soul felt captured for who knows how many breaths before she remembered she should straighten up.
“Hiss—”
She’d bent over for too long. Her waist had gone numb.
As she fell, Jiang Wanyin instinctively reached out for support, but her face still plunged into a mass of highly elastic fabric. A deep, low grunt sounded from above her head at that moment.
The scorching heat beneath her cheek sent Jiang Wanyin’s mind reeling in shock.
She seemed to have touched something she shouldn’t have.
Startled, she pushed hard to lift her waist and rise—but she used too much force, hit her head, and her hand slipped at the same time.
She tumbled back down.
A faintly bitter scent mixed with cool fragrance rushed into her nose.
Jiang Wanyin felt like she must have accumulated eight lifetimes of bad luck today.
“Mmph~”
A slightly breathless sound came from above her head again. Shen Ci used one hand to protect her head and the other to support her shoulder, helping her up: “Careful, don’t bump yourself again.”
Wuwuwu, was there a hole in the ground? She wanted to crawl into one.
She managed to back out smoothly, but caught a glimpse of a glistening trace of moisture on the fabric from the corner of her eye. Jiang Wanyin’s ears turned crimson, and she hung her head, not daring to look at Shen Ci: “President Shen, we’ve arrived.”
Shen Ci raised a hand to cover his eyes: “Wait a moment.”
He took half a minute to recover before opening them, then staggered out of the car: “I’m fine, Lisa. You go home.”
The man’s voice was hoarse and low from drinking, carrying a hint of gravelly texture.
It sounded oddly pleasant.
Since she was only being polite by driving the client home anyway, Jiang Wanyin didn’t stand on ceremony. She was physically and mentally exhausted tonight.
“Then please get some rest.”
Jiang Wanyin returned to the car, stepped on the gas, and drove away.
Shen Ci stood at the entrance, watching the woman’s taillights disappear without a trace of reluctance. Any other woman would have found an excuse to try and get invited inside.
This reminded her of the other woman who had been probing him all evening.
The slight upward curve of his lips fell.
No wonder his father always had women in his heart who belonged to someone else—so this was what it felt like.
Back at home, Jiang Wanyin picked up her phone and was surprised to find no new messages.
She felt a sense of relief, yet a faint bitterness crept in.
She pulled up a family photo saved on her phone and stared at it for a while. Drowsiness began to weigh on her mind, so she turned and headed to the bathroom to wash up.
After finishing her shower, Jiang Wanyin looked at the room lit only by the bedside lamp—dim and silent.
A sudden fear gripped her, and she went to turn on the main light.
Jiang Wanyin shook her head, trying to dispel the chaotic thoughts swirling in her mind. She tossed and turned in bed for a long while, but sleep wouldn’t come.
She had no choice but to prop herself up and scroll through her phone.
She had no idea how big data managed to be so uncanny—it seemed to know she’d been seeing too many handsome blond men lately, and pushed a bunch of foreign bloggers her way.
One blogger’s video of approaching handsome foreign guys on the streets abroad had her swooning from start to finish.
Brown hair, silver hair, blond hair, ocean-blue eyes, forest-green eyes, ethereal gray eyes…
Combined with Lin Wenhao’s constant hints about those things today, even Jiang Wanyin, who held somewhat traditional views, couldn’t help but let her mind wander.
Lin Wenhao just didn’t understand—when couples constantly suspect each other of cheating, even if the other person never had such thoughts, the repeated reminders plant subconscious biases toward the man or woman causing the friction.
Jiang Wanyin realized she too had begun to harbor distrust toward Lin Wenhao. It turned out their relationship wasn’t as solid as she’d believed.
Was her choice for her future life really the right one?
Those handsome men were like poppies, exuding a deadly allure.
