The phone kept ringing. Jiang Wanyin was about to get up and leave when she suddenly noticed two men leaning against her on either side, with two more standing in front of her seat. She was surrounded on three sides.
She had no choice but to answer the call.
“Yinyin, I need to discuss something with you…”
She lowered her voice. “Mm, what’s wrong?”
On the other end, Lin Wenhao spoke rapidly, the main point being that he wanted to borrow twenty thousand yuan.
“Twenty thousand? I currently…”
Jiang Wanyin glanced at the people in front of her and lowered her voice even further. “I don’t think I have enough. Wait an hour for me—let me calculate first and get back to you…”
“How can you not have enough? You… Yinyin, don’t learn from those people who throw money around buying luxury goods. What kind of family are we…”
“I don’t, I’m very frugal…” Jiang Wanyin blurted out. She had given the money to her brother for his medical treatment and had never wanted to tell Lin Wenhao about it.
Just then, the bar changed music, and the sound became especially loud and raucous.
“It’s so noisy over there… You’re at a bar? Who did you go to a bar with?” His voice turned stern.
It wasn’t that her boyfriend was being overly sensitive—Jiang Wanyin was usually very well-behaved. When she wasn’t working, she went straight home. Even on rare business occasions, she would only attend the dinner portion and never participate in the after-hours nightlife.
“I… I’m with my girlfriends.” As soon as Jiang Wanyin said “girlfriends,” four pairs of eyes gleamed brightly, fixed on her.
Damn it!
Lin Wenhao’s tone was full of suspicion. “Are you interested in someone else and making up excuses because you’re tired of me? If you don’t want to lend me the money, just say so directly!”
How could he think of her that way? Either he thought she was wasting money, or he thought she didn’t want to lend it.
Had he never considered that she might have other difficulties?
Jiang Wanyin felt deeply wronged. Her anger flared and she shouted, “I’m not refusing to lend it! Just wait a moment!”
She jabbed the end-call button forcefully. The four “girlfriends” were still staring at her.
Feng Ziyan directly draped his arm over her shoulder and pulled her close. “Little sister, you have a boyfriend? That’s not very obedient of you—calling us your girlfriends. Guy friends, you mean? Dear sister~”
Smack. He planted a kiss right on her cheek.
What was going on? Why did Feng Ziyan suddenly kiss her?
Jiang Wanyin’s face flushed crimson. She covered her cheek with one hand and pushed him away, then hurriedly jumped down from the tall stool, nearly falling in the process.
Chen Li grabbed her arm and caught her in a full embrace. “Hopping around like that—do you think you’re a rabbit?”
His words were disdainful, but his hand seemed to casually land on the gap between her top and pants at her waist, touching her skin directly.
Jiang Wanyin was especially ticklish around her waist. She let out a yelp and jerked backward as if shocked.
“Hiss—”
Two large hands steadied her shoulders. It turned out her backward step had bumped into Pei Zhou and stepped on his foot.
“S-sorry! Mr. Pei, are you alright?”
Afraid of being stepped on again by this flustered woman, Pei Zhou wrapped his arm around her waist and lifted her up, holding her in place. “Stop jumping around.”
“I—I—Mr. Pei, put me down right now!”
Jiang Wanyin was being held up by Pei Zhou from behind, his arm around her waist. The bizarre sight drew the attention of everyone around them.
Mr. Feng and Mr. Chen both looked on as if enjoying the show.
She twisted her waist, trying to get down, when she suddenly noticed something and froze, too shocked to move.
Jiang Wanyin turned her head stupidly. “You—”
The woman’s squirming was practically driving Pei Zhou crazy. His fair face flushed red as he released her and turned his back to face the bar counter, hiding his… condition.
Beside him, Feng Ziyan looked on with great curiosity, his gaze drifting downward.
Shen Ci’s eyes sharpened as he reached out to pull the woman’s shoulder: “Lisa, are you alright?”
Enveloped by his tall frame, Jiang Wanyin’s fight-or-flight response threatened to flare up again.
She tried to step aside to avoid Shen Ci’s hand, but he smoothly slid it down her back, stopping at her waist, carrying an unspoken dominance.
“It’s getting late. Let me take you home.”
Jiang Wanyin felt deeply awkward inside. What was going on—did having a boyfriend trigger some strange switch in these men?
It seemed like several of them had suddenly activated some odd persona.
She dared not move again: “I drove here. Let me take you back—”
Hmm, she had to treat everyone equally, but there were four of them. How was she supposed to give them all rides?
Her little beat-up car couldn’t fit four grown men.
Feng Ziyan had returned to normal and chuckled: “No need for us. Miss, just take Brother Ci back. He’s older and likes to sleep early.”
Jiang Wanyin: ?
“Oh, alright. Then let’s go, President Shen. My car is parked right at the entrance.”
Jiang Wanyin was more than happy to only drive one person—it saved her the trouble.
Once in the car, after a moment, President Shen suddenly spoke up: “Just now… I didn’t startle you, did I?”
